yelling and fighting off her would be abductors. the really scary thing not just for her but for the rest of us is that she was doing something many of us do, just dashing out to the car to grab something at night. now, it happened near the intersection of clinton street and lincoln avenue in redwood city in what is a pretty densely populated neighborhood. maybe that's why she felt safe doing it. redwood city police say it was about 9:30 went the woman went out to the street to get something from her car. while she was doing that she was grabbed by a man she did not know. she screamed and fought off that suspect who she told police believed, she believed was trying to kidnap her. she got away in a dark colored vehicle driven by another man. now, while redwood city police are not releasing more specific suspect or vehicle descriptions this morning they say if you know anything about this incident at clinton and lincoln avenue to give them a call. if you don't live in redwood city, same safety tips apply anywhere around the bay area. if you're going out to your car at night, be aware of your

surroundings and consider taking another person with you. in redwood city, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." the san jose police department wants to update the way the officers track crime in the city. they've been using software that analyzes crime reports and uses the data to determine whether officers should be deployed. that software is now about ten years old. tonight the department will ask the city council to buy a new crime mapping software. the new software would update crime reports in realtime compared to 24-hour delay with the current software. new signs in the sjpd is having a tough time retaining newly trained officers. nbc bay area learned two cadets are leaving just days after graduation. one cadet departed the day after take tag oath. sources say he left for the hayward police department and a second cadet went back to his old job as an air conditioning repairman. crimes jump fred 6 in february to 28 in march.

doctors medical center in san a blow is closing doors after serving the community for more than six decades. >> that hospital served primarily poor patients shs parkts who now need to find a new place to receive care. "today in the bay's" stephanie trong is live with more details on where they can go now, steph. good morning. >> food morning, sam and laura. the doors officially close here at doctors medical center in less than two hours at 7:00 this morning. you can see it's up there on the sign. we're talking about a quarter of a million people in the west contra costa area who need to figure out where to go for medical care. the hospital serves primarily low income and uninsured patients operating on an annual deficit of at least $18 million. the west contra costa health care district vote of directors voted for a close last month after the hospital exhausted the ability to get more money and one short of money by early may. contra costa health services is urging those without health insurance to call the county's

free 24/7 advice nurse line for nonlife threatening conditions. some good news, some of the staff are now at a new urgent care center that opened yesterday here in san pablo called lifelong urgent care. that features five exam rooms, xa room, and will provide treatment for emergency services like broken bones, infections, sprains, asthma, and the flu. right now open seven days a week just eight hours every day. hoping to expand services to fill that gap of need here in west contra costa. live in san a blow, sef friday trong, "today in the bay." put toog much stress on kids. it says it's leading to more suicides. school administrators presented a proposed new class schedule for the next school year. the schedule would include fewer classes but longer class periods. also students would not be allowed to take academic classes in zero period anymore.

starts say it's all part of creating a better learning environment. >> we can't afford to wait. this needs to happen next year. i think it's really part of a big cultural change. we're trying again to focus on learning and great teaching and innovative ideas, not just on who has the highest gpa or who is taking the most aps. >> the school will present the proposed schedule next month. the approved administrators hope to implement it next year. a fight heating up right now between the 49ers and the santa clara youth soccer lead. 49ers want a to surn soccer field nearby to a new pashing and field. >> it will be a hot topic at the city council meeting. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning. as you can see behind me the santa clara youth soccer complex is primary real estate. it's located right next door to the new levi stadium. you can understand why the 49ers want to use this as vip parking.

but some of those who coach and play soccer at these fields feel that the 49ers reneged on a promise to relocate their playing fields and find them a new facility. under a new proposal put forth by mayor jamie matthews the team would be paying $15 million in prepaid rent for use of the facility, parking, during games. and another $3 million for the school district to renovate other soccer fields. in time for when the 49ers take over this facility in two years. santa clara city council member lisa gilmore criticizes the proposal calling it a give away and take away deal because there is no relocation plan for the leagues and the land is worth much more than the $18 million proposal. >> in terms of the 49ers, they have not kept their promises. i want to make sure going forward nobody is hood winked in the future, that the promises are kept and the santa clarans get what we deserve. >> reporter: 49ers point out that all the past plans were,

quote, ideas and a proposals, even the ones that were cited in letters. soccer league planed a rally before city council discusses the proposal at their meeting tonight. >> interesting to see how it all plays out. it will take a village to satisfy football fans' cravings when super bowl 50 comes to the bay area. today they unveil officially that village. levi stadium is february's big game. it's going to play host but super bowl 50's village is going to be located in san francisco. later today the super bowl committee shows off the village designs and unveils official name and location. organizers will also display the trophy to be handed out to the champs. right now we have a little bit of niner colors flashing. that extends not just here but also to christina loren. did you know i was going to wear red today? >> that pocket square you have there because all i see is that yellow tie from over here.

temperatures right now mostly in the 50s. 51 degrees to kick off the new day in the north bay. monday now in the rearview mirror getting closer to that weekend. just one day makes a big difference. this weekend actually looks pretty good although that unsettled weather will continue. temps in the 60s by noon today. then we'll round out the day 70 degrees in the tri-valley. otherwise expecting the upper 60s in the south bay. 60 degrees straight up in san francisco. the best bet for showers for today will be over the mountains and the hilltops, the coast, and the peninsula. we're going to include you as well. and then by tomorrow that will shift to the north bay mountains and along the immediate coast. here's what's going on. high pressure to our south. area of low pressure to our north. the two kind of work against each other. what's happening is that monsoonal moisture is coming up and for us that means we do have instability. so tuesday, wednesday, and friday afternoon we're actually tracking the chance for some strong thunderstorms to develop not necessarily here, we are

a live look outside. that s-curve up near the north bay. san rafael this morning. it is 5:25. former egyptian president mohammed morsi will spend the next 20 years in prison. a judge in cairo handed down the sentence this morning for the former president and 13 others. morsi's charges include insighting the killing of protesters outside the presidential palace in december of 2012. military leaders eventually ousted morsi in july 2013. an american woman and her

boyfriend are going to prison for killing her mother in e indones indonesia. that court sentenced heather mack to ten years in jail. her boyfriend, tommy schaefer, will get 18 years. they beat mack's mother to death during a vacation in bali. mack gave birth to a baby girl in march. federal officials are investigating a cellphone video on youtube appearing to show a police officer grabbing a camera from a woman and taking it away. it happened in southern california. outside of l.a. the video shows the woman pointing a cellphone or camera at officers standing in front of a home. at one point an officer runs up to the woman, grabs the device, throws it on the ground. police chief says the officers were investigating a biker gang gathering at a bar nearby. coming up next, the child at the center of an amber alert wants to talk to the public. he's 8 years old. southwest airlines sued after a passenger dies on a flight out of oakland.

vellejo, where can i go for care? good morning, steph. >> good morning, sam and laura. yeah, many people now will have to figure out who their new doctors will be, where to go for a new hospital. you can see the sign is up here. that yesterday was the last full day here at doctors medical. hospital execs were still saying it could be saved as reign as two months ago. however, the hospital had a yearly structural deficit of 18 to $20 million. zering mostly know lowe income and uninsured patients. the question now for the people in the area is who do i call? contra costa health services is urging those without health insurance to call the county's fry 24/7 advice nurse line for help with nonlife threatening conditions. there's also a new urgent care center that opened yesterday just across the street from the hospital in san pablo called lifelong urgent care. it will provide treatment for emergency services like broken beans, infections, asthma, and

the flu. lifelong is planning to expand urgent care services. last month the board of directors voted to shut down the center after financial production showed that they would not be able to pay staff and meet basic operating expenses by the end of the month here, end of april. so that's what's happening now. here the board is selling property here but that would only keep the hospital open through july. live in san pablo this morning, s stephanie trong. uber driver accused of hitting a bicyclist on purpose in san francisco is scheduled to make first court appearance later today. investigators say he got into a fight with a bicyclist near fisherman's wharf on sunday. witness we say the cyclist was cussing at the driver and hitting his car. then police say he accelerated after the cyclist and hit the back tire of his bike. the cyclist had to be taken to the hospital where several broken bones. now that incident has the bicycle coalition concerned about the lack of training for

ride share drivers. >> if these ride share companies really care about prioritizing safety and working with the city, they would be doing their part to help make sure that their frequent drivers, people who are on the road hours at a time every day, know how to drive safely around our streets. >> the bicycle coalition says san francisco taxi drivers, they're required to attend a safety class at their office once a year. so far ride sharing companies are not providing the same training to its drivers. 5:35. southwest airlines on the defensive this morning following the death of a prominent. financial trader on a flight from oakland. he was found crying and moaning in the plane's rest room ten minutes before it was supposed to land in orange county last september. we obtained this home video. he suffered a pulmonary embolism and yesterday his wife filed a wrongful death suit in alameda county. she said southwest treated him as if he was causing a disturbance rather than providing him the medical aid he

to portray him as the younger brother who was under the influence of his older brother the mastermind of that bombing, but prosecutors say he was involved in the planning and deserved the ultimate punishment. >> the jury that found dzhokhar tsarnaev guilty must now decide whether he list or dies. >> want the death penalty. he saw so many people, he could have walked away but he chose not to. >> reporter: not everyone in boston agrees. >> it doesn't seem to deter anybody from doing what they're going to do. >> reporter: the parents of 8-year-old martin richard are asking federal prosecutors to spare tsarnaev's life. in a statement they said, the continued pursuit of that punishment, the death penalty, could bring years of appeals and prolong reliving the most painful day of our lives. >> i do believe he should be held accountable. so whatever that is, i believe that the true judgment comes after he dies anyways. >> reporter: many survivors could be called to testify.

>> i think their point of view and their perspective absolutely should be taken into account by the jury and by the. >> reporter: polls show a slight majority here against the death penalty. prosecutors balancing the community's opinion with a mandate to punish terror are unlikely to take the death penalty off the table. and actually is a pretty hard to do in a federal trial anyway because one juror who objects to the death penalty, even though they've been qualified as a death penalty jury, one juror's objection can mean life without parole. that penalty phase gets under way today. >> interesting to see the results. thank you, tracie. >> great insight. southern california middle school student under arrest this morning accuse of making death threat on instagram. students notified officials at a middle school last week about the threats. one anonymous posting warned one student, quote, this is your last week. another had a photo of a student with a threatening message. dispute between the 49 years

and santa clara youth soccer league over fields next to levi stadium is heating up. >> 49ers want to take oef the fields but some are calling this a land grab. bob ridell is live from santa clara with a look at the debate likely to happen at today's city council meeting. give us a preview. >> thank you. good morning, sapp and laura. debate over the land behind me as you can see at santa clara youth soccer complex. it's prime real estate. no surprised considering it's located right next door to levi stadium. you can understand why the 49ers would want to turn it into vip parking. but some of the people who coach and play soccer at this facility feel that the 49ers reneged on a promise to relocate their playing fields and find them a new facility. under a propose soot put forth by santa clara major the team would pay $15 million in prepaid rent for use of a facility, parking during games, and $3 million for school district to renovate other soccer fields in

time for when the 49er's take over in two dwraers. santa clara council member criticizing this proposal calling it, quote, give away and take away deal because there is no relocation plan for the leagues and the land is worth much more than that combined, $18 million proposal. the 49ers point out that of all the past plans, they were just ideas and proposals. even the ones cited in letters. the soccer league plans will rally around the city council to discuss the proposal at their meeting tonight. reporting live here in santa clara, bob ridell, "today in the bay." 5:46. despite a sketchy game plan carson city members may fast track a new shared stadium for the raiders as new as today. proposal lacks any real detailed plans but tonight leaders in carson will meet to decide whether or not to endorse the stadium and present it to voters. proposed $1.8 million stadium has the raiders and chargers

interested as joint tenantses. the raiders are interested in staying in oakland for all you diehard raider fans. >> we all thought raider nation, hopeful they will stay here. while a new stadium might not be sprouting up any time soon the rain is sprouting up this week. you have green on your radar. >> that means we might have some new growth sprouting up on our local hillside. we want you raiders to stay here in oakland. come on, guys. 5:47 now. temperatures are pretty comfortable to start the day on the east shore and across the bay area. we're starting out in the 50s. we are on our way to kind of a cool afternoon. 61 degrees in the north bay at lunchtime rounding out the day at about 70 degrees in wine country. today, 60 in san francisco. we need this moisture because, hey, we haven't kicked off fire season just yet. part of the reason why is because we have been getting these weather systems. the good news is as we head throughout the next couple of days through early next week, as a matter of fact, we're going to keep that trend going. so let's talk about what you can

expect this is what sam was alluding to bep got that radar activated. seeing a little bit of shower activity at this point along the hills. the east bay hills. we did have a little action earlier this morning on the east shore and as we get into the next couple of hours that is going to intensify. as we accumulate daytime heating we are expecting a few isolated thunderstorms right here in the bay area. let me show you your future cast. we stopped this clock at 11:00 a.m. today. right in the heart of our midday broadcast likely tracking showers up and down the peninsula all of the way here into san jose. as we head throughout tonight that's when we have the best chance of these thunderstorms developing. high pressure is pulling up some subtropical moisture and bringing it into the bay area. and that's actually colliding with the very dry air mass, cooler one that's coming in from the north coast. for us we're going to see a little bit of instability as the two systems work against each other getting into the next couple of days. now, something else that's happened over the course of the next couple of days, i promised

you this, we have the meteor shower. you want to look directly overhead, predawn hours on wednesday and thursday. and right now your sun rise is 6:30 a.m. you're going to get the best view for this from 2:00 to 4:00 a.m. and it's looking good from the east bay hills and from as high up as you can possibly get with a little bit of low cloud cover. ooze promised, giant forecast coming up next. now though, mike and your drive. >> looking over toward the east bay. unusual slowing right now for the nimitz heading through fremo fremont. i want to howout the bay bridge did have the metering lightses turning on. two portions of bay area that will have the most affect on folks. this one is unexpected though. southbound through fremont out of union city and newark. jammed. one lane blocked. just past the first crash and in the back, may be a second crash that happened. secondary crash happened likely coming into this area. anywhere south of stevenson you're okay. slows a bit for your break

we'll have a live report next. live and tigers and bears won't be allowed to perform in san francisco if the board of supervisors approve the new ordinance. the law would ban performances with large exotic anal mallimal bay area jewelry store employee in the hospital this morning after being attacked during an attempted robbery. two men walked into nap a valley jewelers and hit a worker in the chest before running off. the employee suffered a heart attack. police arrested one of those suspects just 17 years old. the other suspect got away. now to a follow-up. a tractor is not to blame for a gas line explosion. it happened on friday at the sheriff's foundation gun range. according to the san francisco chronicle authorities say a frond loader had been spreading piles of fuel along the dirt road that runs behind the range, not excavating. 11 people were hurt. three of them still in critical condition. pg&e said the pipeline had been

checked for leaks. this is a catchy name of shorts. some web sites are calling a new move by google, mobilebedden. >> no horse man, no broken seals but goggle is going to make changes to the wait chooses who gets to be on top in search results done on mobile devices. google wants to promote websites that are easy to read and use on phones and tablets. so it's tweaking its search algorithm this morning adding a bit of extra credit as it were to push friendly sites higher. google warned websites it would do this in february so they have had time to adapt. nothing changes on regular google search, the kind you do on computer. this all makes sense. people using internet on mobile devices more and more and when they search they want to be sent to websites easy to use on the phone. wall street optimistic on earnings report. close to default.

if you lend greece money for ten years they promise to pay you back 13%. it's the only way to get people to give them money. by comparison, the u.s. government for ten years, they will pay you less than inflation. chipotle is one of the companies reporting profits today. investors love chipotle. that stock just under $700 a share. it's ripe for a split as well. nobody wants to split their chipotle. >> never. >> he brought his wi, the back from vacation with him. thanks a lot. major ruling could impact mandatory water cuts issued by the governor? >> any of san juan is unconstitutional. the city in orange county uses the system to encourage conservation by charging customers who use more water at a higher rate. several cities in t bay area including east bay mud use tiered rates. it's not clear how the ruling

will affect those agencies. governor brourn is lashing out at the ruling saying state lawyers are reviewing the decision. william shatner aka captain kirk wants to save california from the drought and is using kick starter to try to fund his efforts. shatner wants to raise $30 billion to build a water pipeline from the seattle area to california. the pipeline would run along interstate five and an idea floating out there before. back in the 1970s. california water officials talk about taking water from the pacific northwest. shatner says raising $30 billion may not work but the effort will raise national awareness about our drought. >> shatner may not realize all is not necessarily greener in the pacific northwest. they're actually now seven counties in organ where emergencies have been declared this year. oregon governor kate brown added two new counties on the list. last year oregon hadnine. >> you might say shatner's proposal shattered.
