start as we get into this afternoon. that fog will clear quickly courtesy of some gusty winds. we'll talk about this, plus your weekend forecast. right now we're looking over at oakland. bright lightss 880 past the coliseum. >> we love to hear about it, live look outside this morning. dark start. ready for the sun's arrival for this thursday, april 23rd. this is "today in the bay." >> a very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. following breaking news in mountain view. overnight house fire and discovery of a dead person inside of that house. crews right now still on scene at the home on lolo lane just down the street from the benjamin bobb elementary school. >> kris sanchez just spoke with firefighters on the scene. she joins us live now with details. good morning, kris.

>> we now know one man died in this fire. the fire was coming from the back of the house. thaw started hearing explosions in the garage which we were about to show you. also here is the deputy chief with some of the other details. >> when we arrived on the scene we had a heavy fire to the rear of the structure. we had live ammunition that was going off in the garage. we also encountered live wire to the rear of the house. >> reporter: so now we know that the man died in a bedroom in the rear part of the house, which is also where the fire started. not particularly in that bedroom but in the back of the house. the fire then spread into the garage. as you heard the chief say, there were explosions. we now know that it sounded like the man who was inside or the resident of the home stored bullet there's in the garage.

neighbors say that they heard the explosions as well. they made multiple calls to 911 but we do know that the bullets or the explosions were not the actual cause of the fire. the investigation does continue here. pg&e still on the scene as well. we'll bring you updates throughout the morning. in mountain view, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> "today in the bay" stephanie trong live at the police department. investigators are still searching for the suspect. how the the little boy? >> reporter: good morning to you both, laura and sam. last we checked the little boy is still in really bad condition with life threatening injuries. at this point police say they're just looking for at least five men who got involved in some sort of gunfight but the only victim, that young boy. >> 40, 50 people, a party. you know, and they were shooting

from here in the -- the 7-year-old was out on the sidewalk by that van. >> okay. >> over there. he, i guess, took a round. >> reporter: that 7-year-old was shot in the chest suffering life-threatening injuries. family members had already taken him to the hospital by the time officers arrived after the shooting 5:20 last night on 2800 block of fifth street. the men got into a gun battle using two different caliber handguns all shooting in one direction. the thought was the men were shooting people at this party randomly. again, just five men is at least five men is who they're looking for but at this point the only tip really that police have is their link to a dark colored vehicle. live in vallejo, stephanie trong, "today in the bay." >> thank you. now to a developing story, the chp and oakland is on the lookout for 16-year-old girl who eggs scaped from her custody. >> "today in the bay" bob ridell has this story.

>> samnd laura, chp hasn't fully explained how the 16-year-old girl was able to escape their custody. she somehow slipped out of her handcuffs and hasn't been seen since. >> you got out smarted by a 16-year-old. i hate to say it like that but it's true. >> that's the stepmother of 16-year-old elida retana. she tell us the chp brought her daughter to her hayward home about 3:00 yesterday morning after she allegedly stole a car and gave officers a false name. when the officers tried to release the girl back to the family the family told her to keep her. they anted her to take responsibility for that alleged crime and other outstanding warrants. as officers booked her into their oakland facility the teen who is a chronic run away somehow slipped out of her handcuffs and escaped. >> we were worried about her being on the street because she's an attractive girl and,

you know, bad things happen when people are out on the street. so we're hoping they will catch her for her safety. >> again, the chp has not fully explained how she was able to get away. only to say this is, quote, very rare. sam, laura? >> all right, thank you very much, bob. it is 5:05. happening today, crews are preparing for another day of all out searching for missing south bay teenager. 17-year-old conner sullivan was last seen on monday around 10:00 a.m. he went to his morning classes in cupertino and then disappeared. yesterday a steady flow of people showed up at the volunteer center to help look for the teenager. deputies say right now this is being classified as a run away with suspicious circumstances. 5:05. uber driver is going to face a judge later today. this after a road rage incident with a cyclist in san francisco ended with serious injuries. this happened sunday on northpoint street near fisher n

fisherman's wharf. 38-year-old struck the back of the bike on purpose after a cyclist pounded on his window and pushed the car's mirror in. the impact broke the cyclist's ribs and collar bone and punctured his lung. now he is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. carmel police say they have their man in a so-called mrs. doubt fire robberies. on the left is a mug shot of brandon onyk arrested this week by carmel police. he matched a description of a suspect in a series of burglaries. police up the coast in santa cruz believe he's the same man behind a couple bank robberies in the city. he was nicknamed mrs. doubt fire because he dressed as a woman. in oakland whistle-blower is accusing the city's veterans affairs department of gross mismanagement. rusty ann brown among several other veterans employees called to testify on capitol hill yesterday. among her allegations, more than 13,000 claims were stashed in a

cabinet and never. even reviewed. she even tattooed the exact number on her arm because even if the va forgets about them she says she won't. >> i mean, i don't have any power. bring it this far, you put it at the hands of government and you say, do your job. and that's kind of what my hope is now. whether that's going to happen or not, i don't know. i don't have a lot of fight. >> the department of veterans affairs says it's launched a top-down review and it's pledged to furnish those who falsify data. new this morning a flight passengers will certainly never forget. turbulence were so bad several passengers got sick. storms kicked up as the boeing 767 tried to land in newark tossing the plane around like a children's toy. passengers said it was the most turbulent flight they had ever been on. the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in boston. two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. .

residents of two peninsula mobile home parks are going to be sleeping more safely thanks to the red cross. volunteers on saturday will help install working smoke alarms at the trailer park in redwood city mobile park. they will advise residents about escape plans. all this is part of the national red cross home fire preparedness campaign started there later today. >> something we should all take to heart. make the markers of when we need to check the batteries. okay. could be a little windier later today. meteorologist christina loren has been closely tracking the wind conditions. good morning. >> good morning to you, sam and laura. everybody at home. that's what i'm starting with on your wednesday. temperatures are mild out there. your wind is going to increase just like sam pointed out as we get into this afternoon. but really the weather story that i want to focus in on is your day part forecast. starting out in the 50s to kick off the bay at 62 degrees in half-moon bay. we do have low clouds out there. you might just have to use your windshield wipers from time to

time. then we have a sunny and mild afternoon coming your way. temperatures for today at lunchtime, showing you here. 64 degrees on the peninsula. step outside for lunch, really nice day coming your way. if you want to have lunch outside should be pretty good up until this point, noon. before that wind really starts to whip. let's talk about that. we take you into thursday at noon and you can see here for today looking relatively quiet at this point. but then as we head deeper into the afternoon, especially tonight, that's when that wind will start to pick up. otherwise, big news in the weather department. we actually have a better chance for showers and snow over the sierra nevada as we get into this weekend. i'll tell you when and how much we're expecting coming up in my next report. right now i want to welcome in mike inouye. looking windy on the bay bridge. >> the camera is shaking a bit. this is our amityville camera. get caught with a breeze. no advisories from chp but the camera shows some movement in the air.

showing movement on the roadway as well. westbound beautiful tower lit up. no problems reported on that bay bridge span. let me show you the maps as well. easy flow of traffic here. we do have one marker here. this is southbound 101 just south of the waldo tunnel. reports of one car they think they hit a deer as it was trying to cross the roadway and scampering around still over the center divide. concern as it tries to make its way over the shoulder. chp hasn't scheduled any traffic breaks. i'm going to track that for the north bay. upper east shore moves smoothly. this is northbound 242. traveling northbound at concord and transition ramp. that's where the crash is traveling over toward westbound highway 4. that's directly carried to the commute which typically comes through the area or travels off 680. no injuries reported there. meanwhile, a little farther south. the dublin interchange shows you at speed. we just have the typical build for the altamont pass. popular route just starting to get more traffic flow. in the south bay, looking

it is 5:14 on your thursday morning. quick peek outside right now downtown san jose. starting to stir just a little bit as we head closer to the weekend here. we are also just one day away from the new apple watch, or are we? >> confusion as to when and where the watch will be available. that's kind of unusual for apple. >> apple is a well-run machine, right, laura? it couldn't get something as simple as when is the product available wrong and yet there is confusion this morning. the business insider reports the head of apple retail has been briefing apple stores because even the employees are confused.

here's what we think we know. yes, the apple watch will be delivered to some people tomorrow. no, you will not be able to buy it in stores tomorrow. if you weren't the first to preorder, that's where it gets super hazy. some customers are reporting their ship dates were just really soon have now been moved to mid summer. facebook opened financial books to investors l.a. night and said it had done a great job increasing revenue. then plowed that money back into the business. just the sort of thing you want to see from a growth company. though only some companies can get away with that kind of big spending. things like paying $2 billion for a the experimental virtual reality goggles from oculus as google did months ago. yahoo! had done that investors would have stormed the castle. facebook can get away with this kind of thing. let's check the markets. landon dowdy is live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, landon.

>> hey, scott, good morning to you. futures are lower after stocks erased early losses and closed near the highs of the session on wednesday. the nasdaq hitting a 15-year high and just shy of an all-time record close. we get unemployment and new home sales. today is the busiest day of earning season. look for results today in 3m, gm, caterpillar, eli lilly, amazon, google, microsoft, and starbucks. rising 88 points to 180.38. nasdaq up 21 to 58.35. back to you. car companies have opened research labs in silicon valley, department of homeland security announced this week it's opening an office and now the pentagon will open an office in silicon valley. brand new secretary of defense ashton carter will speak at stanford today where he's expected to announce the pentagon will create a lab at moffett field and offer venture capital funds to companies willing to work on cyber defense and things that go boom. rather coming fulg circle as

silicon valley was largely born through defense and aeronautics. >> thanks a lot, scott. well, we've all heard of this in the bay area, the big one is coming. the new research just released suggests the shaking won't stop there. the study was done by scientists at ufc. their findings suggest the big one will be followed by a flurry of other big ones. the massive earthquake we're talking about will be bigger than a magnitude 7.7 and hit somewhere i long the san and dras falls. the new research shows the quake that big will probably trigger additional large shakers on nearby faults. a separate study found 150 million people live in places that could experience earthquakes. that's nearly half of all americans. the last count was done in 1994 and at that time only 75 million americans were at risk for earthquakes. a lot more population out there.

well, it wasn't just the big one but people in the guideses felt some shaking recently. yesterday two quakes hit the area. 2.9 followed by 2.6. earthquakes are fairly common in the geysers area because the area is near the san andreas. experts say an electric power plant in the area is responsible for most of the small quakes experienced there. experts say the plant actually withdraws steam from the ground causing seismic plates to shift. happening today, emergency response drill on the peninsula. san mateo county health workers will join emergency teams in door to door operation called silver dragon. teams will work as if there's been a major disaster checking in on residents. they will also give them handouts on emergency preparedness. all right. now to an investigative unit exclusive. 1300 breaks across the bay area. we are talking about water pipelines and millions of gallons of drinking water all lost because the pipes are aging

and water companies are just trying to keep up. nbc bay area investigative unit followed crews in the east bay and in san francisco. their only job, to find leaks and to fix them. it's a way of proactively replacing pipes before they bust. right now the san francisco public utilities commission says it pays about $40 million a year to replace about 15 miles of pipe but water officials admit they're not replacing the pipes fast enough to keep up. >> how many miles a year do you think you ought to be -- would you like to be doing to try to keep up and maybe get ahead of this curb? >> we feel 15 miles is the sweet spot for right now. and this is because it's sustainable, it's doable, it's tearing up 15 miles of streets in san francisco. that's approximately 150 blocks. >> all right. tonight at 11:00 steven stock right there will show you where pipes are breaking and how cities are trying to fix -- find those fixes. if you have a story call us call our tip line or send an e-mail.

it is 5:19. beverly hills already known for its ritzy lifestyle. now that extends to the fines issued for water wasters. city council members will enact new fines up to $1,000 for wasting water. that includes watering lawns, more than two days a week, washing your cars with treated water, or draining and refilling swimming pools. residents are also being asked to cut overall usage by 30%. beverly hills has been one city singled out for its high usage. >> teach them a lesson down there. 5:20 on your thursday. you know what, storm systems will do the darnedest things. now one is shaping up for saturday. >> i have a funny feeling in beverly hills here not washing their own cars or filling their own pools. maybe they need to talk to the people in charge of that. let's get you outdoors and talk about what you can expect for today. mid 50s to start. we're in the low to mid 60s by lumplg time. we're going to round out the day at about 77 degrees in the north

bay. 75 in the tri-valley. and 71 degrees in the south bay. comfortable conditions coming your way this afternoon. what you will notice the difference between yesterday and today not quite a sticky out there and a little bit more wind to finish off the day. temperatures look pretty good. if you're going to be headed outdoors your son will rise at 6:23. that is the coolest point of the day. that the point we are expecting wide spread low cloud cover. getting into this weekend. this is what sam was talking about. areas low pressure dives to the south. this is going to provide us with some much needed rainfall. this will give us re-enforcing shot of good air quality, plus we're also expecting snowfall out of this. up in tahoe where squall valley is still open and we thought they were going to have to close down april 15th. they're still open with more snow on the way as we get into this weekend. let me take you through the next few days. temperaturewise, staying relatively steady between today and tomorrow. we're going to drop by saturday if that front comes through and warm you back up sunday into monday. it's a little breezy out there.

low clouds. drizzle as well. let's check on that morning drive. here's mike inouye. >> you heard the warning from christina, so far nothing as far as affecting your drive but it will affect your view at times if you have to use a windshield wiper. looking over here toward the oakland camera and we can see glow to the lights. not a concern. a little build. again, no real slowing here past the coliseum. 880. this is where the stretch is at the bottom of your screen coming up through oakland. 580 moves through as well. bay bridge toll plaza, no problem. cash lanes starting to kick in. we will focus over here after we check. see that, green? okay. now moving over here. going, going, westbound 24. there is a crash reported here westbound 24 just around the arend da on-ramp there and we do sound like there may be sticking out into the fast lane. no major injuries but they have called an ambulance to the scene just in case so we'll give you the update. slowing and movement and crews are arriving. again, no major lane blockage there but we're still tracking

that commute direction 24. commute direction westbound moves smoothly, a crash north, sounds like everything is just about to clear from the area and cleared out of lanes. no delays from the south bay. palo alto, you're also clear, 101, back to you. >> thanks so much, mike. wayward sea lion is back where it should be after an unusual police escort. the sea lion pup waddled a quarter mile away from the ocean on sunday. a little confused. deputies patrolling highway one noticed it just south of ft. bragg. the animal was friendly and they say very healthy. the pup eventually just climbed into the patrol car and the deputies returned it to the ocean. >> is he wearing a seat belt? >> yes. >> of course. coming up next, five months in the making. why today could be the day that loretta lynch finally gets confirmed as u.s. attorney jern. general. general.

welcome back. it is 5:25. five months after being nominated by president obama it appears attorney general nominee loretta lynch will finally be confirmed today. u.s. senate is holding a procedure vote this morning. a final vote could take place by tend end of the day. senate republican leaders had been holding off on putting lynch's nomination up for a vote until a human trafficking bill was completed. that measure passed yesterday. lynch would replace eric holder who announced last september he plans to step down. okay. expect an ultra patriotic day at the white house as president obama honors the new england patriots in a longstanding tradition the winners of super bowl xlix will get formal recognition of their victory and they get to pete meet the president this afternoon. this is video of president obama last year with the seattle seahawks. winners of super bowl xlviii. the entire team including tom brady will be at the white house later today. 5:26. update to breaking news.

you are watching "today in the bay." >> from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." >> good thursday morning. thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. an update to breaking news in mountain view. an explosion, an house fire in moun tyne view leaves one man dead. crews are still on the scene at the home just down the street from the benjamin bubb elementary school. >> kris sanchez just spoke with a neighbor who tried to save the victim. kris, what did she tell you? >> reporter: good morning, sam and laura. that neighbor says he felt so helpless rushing toward that home, know that he wanted to help his neighbor dan. but knowing once he saw heavy black smoke that there really wasn't much that he was going to believe able to to do. let's tell you what the deputy chief said this morning. crews arrived and found the house engulfed in flames in the back part of the house.

they saw heavy flames and heavy smoke coming out of the back of the house. they immediately tried to get inside that home to check and see if that man could make it out alive. and here's his neighbor. >> yelling as loud as we could to, dan, dan, dan. and what else do you do? we're banging on the house. you know, i thought about trying to bang the front door down but i knew where his bedroom was and i started banging there and yelling. lucky i didn't cut my arm. the window broke and at that time all the smoke came billowing out. >> reporter: the mountain view firefighters very aware of what was at stake this morning. they knew dan was inside that house and they wanted to try to get him outside. then they heard those explosions coming from the garage. turned out to be bullets. the man who lives here had a lot of ammunition. the neighbors were able to alert police and firefighters that that was the case. once the firefighters were able to put that out they continued on with what they hoped because

rescue mission and it turned out to be a recovery instead. the investigation out here will continue. pg&e still on the scene because the lines also went down and that is under repair. in mountain view, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> hr rowic efforts by that neighbor. 5:32. the search is on this morning for a gunman after a 7-year-old v vallejo boy was shot. >> steph, investigators also still looking for the suspects. good morning. >> reporter: that's right. good morning to you both, sam and laura. now you have a 7-year-old boy fighting for his life after this reckless and wild shooting by several men at a party last night just after 5:00 in south vallejo. investigators and crime scene technicians studying the scene there at the 800 block of fifth street for hours marking at least a dozen pieces of evidence on this ground. many of them likely bullet casings. multiple men using at least two different caliber handguns got

into a gunfight at this party of up to 50 people. one of the stray bullets hitting the 7-year-old boy in the chest, a wound that may now kill him. investigators are trying to track down at least five men reported to be involved. >> shooting in that direction. there's no rounds coming the other direction. we're assuming they were shooting at people at the party randomly. >> reporter: the only other major tip at this point is that the men were linked to a dark colored vehicle. as for the 7-year-old boy, his family members had already taken him to the hospital by the time the first officers arrived on scene. so along with counting those at least five men the hope and thought, of course, is with the young boy and family hoping he pulls through this morning. stephanie trong, "today in the bay." >> thank you, steph. your heart breaks hearing about those circumstances. a teenager on the run after in the custody of chp and then escapes police officers in oakland. >> at the time officers were booking the 16-year-old girl on car theft.

"today in the bay's" bob ridell has this story. >> the family wants to know how the california highway patrol could be out smarted by a 16-year-old girl. the chp is still trying to find 16-year-old elida retana after she slipped out of her handcuffs and chp custody while being booked into their oakland facility early yesterday morning. her stepmother says officers brought her to her home in hayward at around 3:00 in the n morning of she stole a car and gave a false name. after they tried ro we lease the girl back to the family the family told them to take her back to the chp office instead. they wanted her to learn a lesson about facing her alleged crimes and to be accountable for other outstanding warrants. >> she was in shock. i was telling her in spanish, like, what are you thinking, what are you doing? like you need to turn yourself in already for the warrant that you have. >> the family says elida is a chronic runaway. they hope her arrest and

detention would keep her off the streets. the chp has not yet explained how she was able to escape, only to say this is, quote, very rare. laura, sam? >> a lot of questions to answer. happening today, crews are preparing for another day of an all out search for missing south bay teenager. 17-year-old conner sullivan was last seen on monday around 10:00 a.m. he went to his morning lastes at mond monte vista high school in cupertino. deputies say right now there is classified as runaway with suspicious circumstances. it's been a year's long saga and now a very unexpected bit of good news for giants fans about one of the team's legendary players. ten-judge panel overturned barry bonds conviction on obstruction of justice in the balco steroids scandal yesterday. this has been a 12-year legal struggle for bonds. one of the biggest scandals in sports history. reactions to this news very much mixed.

in the tri-valley will be at 68 degrees. finishing off the day, the highs still coming in at 4:00 p.m. 71 degrees for this south bay. 77up in wine country. 68 degrees in oakland. and fremont. and 75 degrees for the tri-valley. let's talk about that game for today. dodgers taking on the giants. again, first pitch, 62 degrees. you are going to be headed out to this game and they usually fill up the stands during the day. i know a couple of our producers are headed out there. this is what you want to look for. 62 degrees at the fifth inning. wind out of the west. 15 to 20 miles per hour sustained. that could pick up and carry that ball out toward center field. that's where you're going to see the flags blowing as we head throughout the day today out there at at&t park. that wind will be gusty so we could see gusts in excess of 25 miles per hour. what does that mean? it means we could see that ball picked up and carried a little extra travel courtesy of the wind out there. let's find out how our drive is shaping up. a little windy which could affect you if you have a

welcome back. it turns out a man who accidentally shot himself in paris over the weekend was planning to stage a terror attack according to officials. that is what france's prime minister is saying. paris police arrested 24-year-old algerian after he shot himself in the leg and called for an ambulance. authorities now believe that man was targeting one or more churches and is linked to a prior shooting death. investigators say they discovered an arsenal of loaded guns in the man's car. it is an image doing little to boost empathy for the boston marathon bomber as if there was a single finger pointed out a

camera. they released video of several weeks after the attack. while pacing in his cell he approached a surveillance camera and dlifs the on scene gesture. prosecutors presented it in the penalty phase of the trial to argue tsarnaev shows no remorse. here's what nbc's pete williams is working on for the "today" show. >> it's an an emotional few days here in the courtroom in the boston in the marathon bombing trial penalty phase. the government's witnesses so far have talked mainly about the effects the bombings have had on the victims and their families, both the emotional and the physical pain. i'll have more on that and what the defense says about that notorious image of tsarnaev coming up on "today." the fall from grace, former u.s. military commander and cia director david petraeus culminates today in not carolina courtroom. >> that's where he will be sentenced for leaking classified information. >> reporter: one misdemeanor and no jail time. that's the plea deal. a lot less than he could have gotten under this charge for sharing state secret, things like the identities of covert officers and war strategy with his biographer who also turned out to be the woman he was having an a fair with. petraeus today is expected to plea guilty and get a $40,000 fine. less than half of what he could have gotten in two years probation. he resigned three days after president obama was re-elected, after in 2012. and the fbi says after they confiscated that he also lied to the fbi about having shared it. but apparently in this plea deal they balanced what he did what what he had done before. the fact that he almost saved the war in iraq with the troop surge and oversee that. also, the war in afghanistan. bottom line, he will not serve a day behind bars under this plea deal assuming it's accepted today by the judge. >> okay. tracie potts from washington. thank you very much.

happening later today, the family of mike yoel brown is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of ferguson. now, we knew this was coming. we just did not know exactly when. last night lawyers for the family announced they were going to file that lawsuit later today. the lawsuit will also likely name former officer darren wilson who shot and killed brown. wilson resigned from the police department back in november. brown's shooting led to, of course, often violent protests in ferguson and the rest of the country for that matter. a national movement calling for changes in how police deal with minorities. the big one is coming but new research released the shaking won't stop there. the study was done by scientists at ufc. their findings suggest the big one will be followed by a flurry of other big ones. massive earthquake will be bigger than magnitude 7.7 and hit somewhere along the san andres a fault. now, this new research shows the dwak that big will probably trigger additional large shakers on nearby faults. a separate study presented along

with the one from ufc 150 million people living places that could experience earthquakes. that's nearly half of all americans. the last count was done in 1992 and at bat time only 75 more americans were at risk from earthquakes. this one wasn't the big one but people in the geysers, they certainly felt shaking recently. yesterday two quakes hit that area. a 2.9 followed by a 2.6. earthquakes are fairly common in the geyser, particularly because the area is near the san andreas fault. experts say an electric power plant in the area is responsible for most of the small quakes experienced there. the experts say plant withdraws steam from the ground causing seismic plates to shift. happening today, emergency response drill on the peninsula. san mateo county health worker s will join emergency teams in door to door operation called

silver dragon. teams will work as if there's been a major disaster checking in on residents. see what they can do to help. they will also give them handouts on emergency preparedness, trying to make sure everyone is prepared. we know the big one is coming. we just don't know exactly when. so it's always a great idea for all of us to keep in mind to have those emergency kits ready. be prepared. you never know. >> we talk so much about it but actually putting your money where your mouth is in terms of getting communities ready is a nice thing to see there in san mateo. >> if you're smart enough to keep the supplies check them. >> you want to have a emergency radio and make sure you have plenty of water for you and your family, canned goods, nonperishable items. every time you go to the store it's a good idea to collect and add and move things out. use the old stuff. bring in the new so you can always keep it fresh. temps are mostly in the 50s. we never want to for get we do live in earthquake country. 64 degrees at noon on the peninsula. up to 70 degrees on the peninsula at 4:00 p.m. today. so it will be another comfortable day for us.

tri-valley and no major concern. what is of concern is this crash right here westbound 24. this is a slower drive. going through lafayette and orinda. in the center divide now. distraction just as you approach that caldecott tunnel. tunnel is clear. doors are open. the crash just before it slows folks down. when you slow down once again if you're heading in towards san francisco because the bay bridge metering lights as we said are turned on. that's the only big deal once you get out of the maze or other than 24, upper east shore freeway, north bay, and san mateo bridge do move smoothly over to the peninsula. we'll show you that north bay build because it has kicked in strong over the last few minutes. we've seen a lot more cars southbound 101. the greater the light, there is moisture in the air but visibility is fine. the wind will start to kick up across the bridge later on. we'll track that. so far, you're okay. back to you. >> thank you very much. following breaking news this morning. fire in mountain view has claimed the life of one person. crews found the man in the back bedroom of a home on lola lane
