interesting forecast to tell you about. we're starting out at the 50s. we are on our way to another spectacular day. we will have full details in a moment. right now, let's check your drive and check in with mike inouye. >> we will show you you can see the lights across the span. there's a little bit of a glow but visibility is just great. see the flashing lights on the newark tower lights. out to the map you see no problems as far as the seed indicators although there's typically overnight road crew still clearing from one direction. i'm not sure if they're still there this monday morning. there are still there on the south bray. i know the on-ramp is still closed. 280 near 85 may be in the process of clearing up throughout the rest of the south bay. no north bay, no problem. from 101 in novato down in toward san rafael. easy drive at speed. send it back to you. it is 4:31.

the livermore man accuse of driving drunk and killing a mother and her baby faces a judge tomorrow. police arrested brian jones after they say he lost control of the corvette and hit the mother and 1-month-old daughter saturday night. take a look at the damage there. two other boys were hurt by that debris. the family and friends of victims were visiting from monterrey area for first communion celebration. >> when i looked out there was a corvette here. i can still remember the glass was shattered, the hood came off. and that was when i went to my balcony and looked underneath me and that was when i saw her. i don't know if i can talk about it. >> just devastating. police say jones was at a wine festival earlier in the day. officers say his blood alcohol level was at twice the legal limit to drive. friends set up a go fund me

account to help with funeral christina costs. you can find that link and more information on our website, nbcbayarea. a jolt in the east bay reminded many people of the dangers of living in the bay area. we hear about it all the time. this weekend the 3.6 magnitude quake hit concord yesterday afternoon. followed by a 2.7 quake strike a minute later. then another string of smaller earthquakes. many stores like this target in pleasantville are taking safety precautions. they posted a sign warning customers to stay out of areas where ceiling tiles could fall on top of them. people shopping in concord say they felt a little bit of shaking, too. however, so far no reports of any damages or joo irs. >> kind of like a little jolt. it wasn't anything too big. nothing fell down. nothing broke. it was just kind of more of a caught you off guard kind of did i just feel what i think i did? >> and, yes, you did. several people told us they felt it as far south as fremont and even on the peninsula, too. could a water leak in walnut creek be linked in the

earthquake in the east bay? that's what some are saying. it happened shortly after the quake struck. water main breaks are common so they're not sure if there are any connections between the two. we sent out alerts about the quake across the bay area to get your breaking news on your phone. download the nbc bay area app. it's free for iphones and android devices. investigators trying to figure at what caused a double decker bus to catch fire. this is on a busy san francisco street. it happened around 10:30 yesterday morning near schrader street. fortunately no one was hurt. as of now the cause of fire is still a mystery. a somber moment before the first pitch. the giants paid tribute to a young fan killed last week. jordy whose friends and family described as friendly, happy, and infectiously positive. >> a little bit of what giants fans saw at at&t park yesterday.

9-year-old jordan almgren was stabbed to death last week at his discovery bay home. last week they gave his parents a jersey with a private moment with larry baer. they honored the boy who lived and breathed baseball. 18-year-old william shoelts, a friend of the family, has been charge with his murder. we move now to a developing story. violence in texas. this after organizers of a draw mohammed contest hired 40 extra security guards for the event knowing that it could be provocative. despite the precautions, police say the two men pulled up in a car and shot a security guard outside of that building. this happened in garland, texas. garland police officers shot and killed the two gunmen. investigators then spent hours searching the suspect's car for any possible explosives. the s.w.a.t. team brought attendees to safety and evacuated nearby businesses. >> locking down, securing areas, making sure there was nobody else moving towards the event center. it may be carrying guns or

trying to harm anybody else. >> the wounded security guard was treated at a nearby hospital and then released. now, the events sponsor american freedom defense initiative called the drawing contest, quote, a free speech event. the group's president says she planned the event in response to outcries and violence over drawings of mohammed. as we mentioned organizers beefed up security in advance with 40 extra people. curfew lifted but the state of emergency is still in effect in baltimore this morning. this as life begins to return to normal following the riots and lootding after the funeral of freddie gray. in the meantime allen is refusing what a "washington post" report says he heard while riding in the transport van with gray. allen says he never told police he heard gray trying to hurt himself. he says he never saw anyone harm gray. but says he heard officers talking later on. >> when i got to the police station i heard them saying, well, y'all, you gave him a run

for his money, basically. basically saying they did something to him, man. >> there were a number of protests in baltimore over the weekend. all were peaceful. the defense today is going to continue taking its case in the penalty phase of the boston marathon bombing. tsarnaev's family is going to testify in court. they maintain he was manipulated by his older brother who died in a shootout with police. the route was destroyed by the earthquake triggered avalanche more than a week ago. that decision could end this year's climbing season because it's not possible for climbers to make it to the top without the route. in the meantime, nepal's government is urging foreign rescuers to return home saying the major rescue work in kathmandu has been completed. more than 7200 people died in that earthquake. we know that the severe

drought is impacting water rates and wildlife, but how about this? it's impacting kittens. bay area animal shelter says, yes, that's absolutely the case. today the oakland animal shelter is going to hold a news conference asking for the public's help. cats go into heat and get pregnant as the weather gets warmer. the problem here, as with the drought, the weather has been warm for a long time, which means more kittens. the shelter is already seen nearly 40% increase in kittens coming into the shelter. they hope they're going to be able to find people who can foster all of those animals. 4:38. christina mentioned rain coming our way this week. >> in the meantime, a cloudy start to your morning. good morning. >> it is cloudy out there. speaking of oakland animal services i do a lot of work with them and they have fantastic animals up for adoption. formerly known as the oakland pound it's run by the sheriff's department. check it out if you've ever been interested in adoption. maybe you want to take your animal for a walk this morning.

temperatures are lovely. mostly in the 50s. we have 52 mondays per year to get through. this one is going to be nice because of the weather. 62 degrees at noon. up to 70 degrees later on today. 62 on the east shore. 73 in the tri-valley. then coming up in my next report we will focus in on that rain that laura was alluding to. if you do have to get out that front door, mike is here to help you along the way. >> okay land, we'll start over in oakland eventually. sometimes there are delays getting to your destination. right now, not a problem over here through oakland. smooth flow of traffic traveling in the area. the problem is that this monday morning followed the wrong report from the wrong location. thanks, control room. easy flow of traffic right now northbound past the coliseum. traffic does flow smoothly as well past the southbound side heading down toward the san mateo bridge and earlier closure overnight has cleared up as things are moving well. looking at the next shot as we see the bay bridge toll plaza.

easy flow of traffic toward the toll plaza. know delays down the berkeley area or the berkeley curve. see the low clouds hovering around. visibility is fine. you see there's a glow of lights here as well. north bay just fine. speeds in san rafael and as we look at your map for the entire area we showed you we just have a smooth flow of traffic around the bay as we head south down toward the golden gate bridge without any delay. the oakland construction site, easy flow. slowing out of the altamont because of west 580. it just it is what it is. >> it is a monday. just putting the pieces to the right now. coming up, for years we have seen the white mustaches on celebrities. now the country's biggest milk company says it's got a new tactic to get you to drink milk again. steph curry might be able to add a new achievement to his resume. from fremont up to oakland, lots of folks in war year frenzy this morning, also out on the roadways at this early hour.

4:43 on your monday morning. going to get your workweek started off the right way. this as we give you a live look of a lit up bay bridge. google is trying to become a little bit more diverse so the tech giant is going back to college. google software engineers are teaching at a handful of historically black colleges like howard, morehouse and fisk university. the google in-residence professors are already making an impact. 30 students from the schools will be google interns this summer and one senior is going to start at the company full time once he graduates. the nation's largest milk producer is trying to make milk a -- >> we remember all the ads. for that story and the nasdaq which had its worst week in a month, we're going to go now to landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters with the latest. good morning, landon.

>> guy,s, good morning. the market will start the week out on a positive note. closed down for the week. it's a busy week for economic data topped by the monthly jobs report on friday. news on factory orders and comcast reports earnings this morning. on friday the dow rising 183 points to 180.24. nasdaq up 64 to 50.05. and milk is not just for breakfast anymore. dean foods, the nation's largest milk producer, is trying to make the white stuff relevant again after years of falling consumption. they tell cnbc it's pouring out resources to create single national brand that calls dairy pure. they want national tv and print ad campaign today. u.s. retail milk prices are down to $3.62 a gallon. and ford has quite itly scraped plans to build car seats that can detect heart attacks. the financial times reports automaker blames cheaper and more accurate wearable devices for the decision. this is the sensors to

given his tremendous performance during the regular season. look at his three-pointers. 273 for the season. a personal best for curry. according to the bay area news group his parents informed his son last night over dinner that he received the mvp award making curry the first warrior to receive the award since wilt chamberlain in 1960. >> steph is the guy who really was the maestro of the warriors with the best offense. they had a historically good season. one of only ten teams to win 67 games in a season. i think when you look at steph's numbers individually they were terrific across the board. >> reporter: there's curry with the amazing buzzer beater. the warriors crushed the grizzlies in the first game of round two, the playoffs. game two tomorrow here at oracle arena where curry is expected to receive the award during a pre-game ceremony. >> okay, i'm only going to

your weather finally hitting spring averages. we found our flow. we have been above average for so long today. all throughout the week, temperatures hovering around average for this time of year. subtle changes for you tuesday into wednesday. the end of the week we have a shower chance. temperatures work like this. 65 degrees on the peninsula today. it's going to be kind of nice out there. you will notice the pollen flying around. we will tell you when that will peak. it's going to be an issue for today. 73 in the tri-valley. it is spring after all. 70 degrees for the south bay. 70 degrees up in wine country as well. let's talk about the chance nor showers. stop the clock for you at 5:00 p.m. on thursday. you can see here wide spread activity expected for the greater bay area. everybody getting a little something. this is great for our hillsides and to keep everything nice and moist so we don't see the fire winds making a big impact at this point. things are going to change after the system comes through.

this could be our last hoorah before we get into summertime. enjoy this week. temperatures mostly in the 70. 70 degrees on thursday. when you have numbers like this you don't have to use your ac. in the morning it's mild as the days are getting longer. >> sam, back over to you. >> thanks so much. we are still waiting for word on a name for the new royal baby. yesterday the parents of prince krm and duchess kate came to kensington palace to see the new little princess. kate's sister pippa also stopped by. the royal family is not announced the baby's name just yet but bookies are letting people bet on the top contenders. >> you know what they don't have much wiggle room either. here are some of the options being thrown out there. the front-runner is charlotte. the feminine version of charles, the baby's grandfather. alice is also another popular choice. i heard someone talking about this. alice would be a safe play if they opted for that.

it is 4:54. taking a live look outside. s curve up in the north bay this morning. looks like it's moving smoothly. we'll check inside the traffic is picking up there. mike is keeping tabs on your morning commute. it's 4:54. discarded and disregarded. a florida man is suing a hospital after his amputated leg was found in the trash. homicide detectives brought it to his attention when they discovered the body part and traced it back to him. his name tag was still attached to it. proper practice on the hospital's part would have been to burn the leg instead of throwing it away. the hospital says it won't happen again. >> you can find some valuable things in the trash. that is not something you would want to uncover the lid and discover someone's decaying body

nearly nothing. incredible accomplishment. they say the answer is quite simple. provide homes for the homeless. in 2005 utah counted close to 2,000 homeless people in that population. the last month the number was down to 178. utah's homeless task force has been trying to place homeless people in housing first as the foundation for turning their lives around. leaders say the cost of housing is far lower than what it costs to provide resources for the homeless. both of which, of course, are very much important give help the skills to succeed, not just the housing to receive respite. good story there. coming up, plan to make the streets safer and how the city is spending $80 million to do it. and they were supposed to sail to mexico. how did hundreds of people end on a bus heading to sdang? >> not the same kind of pleasure cruise there. cruising on the roadways, look at these folk tons east bay. live look at 880 and oakland. traffic picking up for your monday morning. mike is keeping tabs on the
