chuang joins us from livermore this morning and, steph, it was a family celebration which quickly turned tragic. good morning. >> good morning, sam. a party at the backyard along marietta boulevard by stan difficult boulevard on saturday night around 7:00. it turned tragic when the suspected drunk driver ran upton sidewalk and hit trees first and then plowed into this backyard here. where you see the aftermath. there were also kids here at the party. he killed -- he was suspected drunk driving killing the 40-year-old mother and a daughter. a lot of messages down here on the memorial here at the candles and the flowers and balloons. messages made out to mom and baby. 35-year-old brian jones of livermore is on bail after police arrested him on gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated behind the wheel of his 201 corvette. family and friends say they are moral less and her 14-month-old daughter julie.

>> the glass was shattered. the hood came off. that's when i went to my balcony and looked underneath me and that was -- that was when i saw her. i don't know if i can talk about it. >> livermore police say a preliminary alcohol screening showed jones with a .13 blood alcohol level. police also say jones had at tended the livermore wine country festival earlier that day. though it starred serving alcohol at 5:00. the crash happened around 7:00. it's unclear where he was in between. friends have created a go fund me page. they raised about $5500 out of $20,000 goal to help send the mom and baby to mexico for funeral arrange 7menarrangement. >> thank you very much, steph. developing right now, a search for a motive in shooting outside an event in texas that included a challenge for cartoonists to draw the prophet

mohammed. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is here with why the fbi is searching an apartment a thousand miles away from where the gunmen were shot and killed. good morning. >> good morning. right now the fbi is searching that apartment at an address in phoenix which was listed on the registration of the car the suspects drove up to that shooting in garland which is outside of dallas. a phoenix tv station reports the suspects lived in the apartment together. and one of them was subject of a prior terror investigation. the feds also say there was no one else in the apartment. they haven't revealed what they found. suspect's car is still on the scene near dallas where the shooting and the inaugural mohammed art exhibit and contest was held yesterday. the black marks around the car are from a bomb squad detonation. the gunmen were killed after driving up to that event center last night and shooting a security guard in the ankle. he has already been released from the hospital. he is going to be okay. about 200 people were locked down inside the building.

valley ceo joining the race now. a name familiar around mere. >> that's right. karly fir fiorina. she will run as a republican just as she did when she ran for california senate in 2010. she lost but she did surprisingly well against barbara boxer. getting about 40% of the vote. that race is probably best remembered for the republican primary where she fought tom campbell for the nomination and fir fiorina had a fight. it doesn't mean that's an advantage. i'll take a look at that in just a few minutes. also, sam and laura, john chambers stepping down as ceo of cisco. we'll have that just ahead as well. >> newsbreaking left and right this morning. thank you, scott. nepal earthquake survivor from the bay area is expected to have a happy homecoming this morning. 43-year-old mcfeeney was among

many climbers stranded on mt. everest after that earthquake struck. her husband says that she hung on for dear life until helicopters were able to rescue her. mcfeeney is a mother of four from san francisco. she's expected to fly into sfo within the next two hours. crews in walnut creek just fixed a water leak, possibly triggered by the earthquake in the east bay. water poured on the intersection about four miles away from the epicenter. officials from east bay mud say water leaks are common and they're not sure if there's a connection between the two. 3.6 magnitude quake hit the concord area yesterday afternoon followed by a smaller 2.7 quake a minute later. people as far south as fremont felt all that shaking but no reports of any damage or injuries. >> okay. students left in the lurch from the heald college closure may get answers today about what to do next. the corinthians colleges closed all the remaining clenls last week. at 1:00 this afternoon the state

nice cloudy start will make way to a sunny and pleasant afternoon. what you will notice with the clouds, you can tell that onshore flow has moved i land and temperatures will not soar as a result. 62 on the peninsula at lunchtime. 58 degrees on the east shore. we're going round out the day comfortably. mid 60s to low 70ed. 73 for the tri-valley. temperatures looking good to hit about 65 degrees on the peninsula today. we had a hot week last week. this is definitely some welcome heat relief. afternoon sunshine in abundance for today. subtle changing coming your way tuesday and wednesday. then we bring on showers as with head throughout late thursday into friday. i'm going to focus in on that in my next report if you can stick around. if not, here's mike to help you get out that front door. >> i will stick around for that report. i get a paycheck as well. looking over here toward the east shore freeway. these folks trying to get their paycheck and the slowdown on the earlier slow down for berkeley.

this the right underneath university avenue. iconic crossing there. we'll look toward the bay bridge toll plaza where you have your signature backup because the metering lights are on. two lowest stretchers for the bay. as we look at the map you see what your usual suspects are as far as the build upcoming out of the maze. brkly looks slow than we typically have because of the earlier crash. now as we widen out this shot you will see the east bay as well as the north bay from 101. novato and the golden gate bridge. the north bay drive drive is just fine. concord, pittsburgh, bay point. the tri-valley shows you're slowing for west 580. no incident so folks are able to make their way into southbound 680 and down through pleasanton. hayward and down in toward union city. the patterns are no surprise to these folkses in east bay. south bay starts with a tune any build from northbound 101. this one should start to stick around for the morning commute starting at 680 moving up toward the airport. 87 shows build as well. now let's take another live

is remembering silicon valley ceo dave goldberg. goldberg was the ceo of survey monkey and married to facebook coo sheryl sandberg. he died suddenly on friday. this morning he's being remembered as a businessman who was passionate about many things including education. many are sharing their heartbreak through online tributes. he was just 47 years old. no official cause of his death has been released. >> so young. developing business news this morning. silicon valley's longest serving ceos is hanging them up. >> john chambers has been at cisco for decades. scott mcgrew, we've thrown that name around here for quite some time. >> we have. warm hearted fellow. when chambers joined sis so cisco was a start up. he became ceo in the mid '90s. got the company through a dotcom collapse. tried a number of business models. generally thought of as a warm m

and effective leader. now, chambers is going to stay on as chairman of the board, a position he already had. so don't doubt he is still very influential. chambers are l. be replaced by chuck robbins, who has been at cisco for many years. cisco has 70,000 employees worldwide. another former silicon valley ceo carly fiorina announced she will run for president of the united states. she's republican and has never held office before. though she had a strong showing for california senator in 2010. fiorina is the former ceo of hp but that may not be necessarily as big advantage as it sounds. first of all, hp was doing through tough times when she was ceo. she cut tens of thousands of workers and huge layoffs. it's going to be a tough history to defend even if it was unavoidable at the time. secondly, she herself was dismissed from the job.

fiorina as a me agree from stanford, a business degree from m.i.t. she has never held political office. while she was running for the u.s. senate she had to defend the fact that she rarely votes. the most recent candidate, guys, to win the presidency having never ever held office to the best that i can remember is dwight eisenhower. now, you also may recall that eisenhower was a bit of a household name because he led the allied effort to beat nazi germany. he had that going for him. >> definitely a feather in his cap. kind of interesting, also, that she announced via twitter by saying i'm running for president. but the near tive is so important for these candidates, not a lot. no youtube videos, no standing by historical landmarks. just i'm running for president. >> there are a few candidates in this race which i don't know that they're necessarily serious candidates but they may be vying for something else, secretary position or a cabinet position. >> we're talking about her right

microclimate forecast at 6:17. a bit of a clear look outside at downtown san jose this morning. we know that there are some clouds located throughout the bay area. but a nice day. >> temperatures in the mid 50s right now? >> yeah, it's actually really nice out there. temperatures are going to be seasonal. that's something that we have not experienced here in the bay area for quite some time. happy monday, everybody. 5 51 in oakland. 54 in san jose. about 52 degrees, comfortable conditions down in san martin. across the board, low cloud cover. onshore flow penetrated inland. fog moving into san francisco as we speak. and that's going to be the weather story of the day. those cooling clouds keeping us nice and comfortable as we get into this afternoon. everything is going to clear out though. we see a lot of vitamin d. a lot of sunshine coming your way by about 11:00 a.m. you will notice a completely clear sky breaking through those clouds. temperatures look great for today. 65 degrees on the peninsula.

62 for the east shore. 70 in the south bay. the same for the north bay. meanwhile, 73 degrees in the warmest bay area city. that being the tri-valley area. so here's the deal. high pressure just offshore for us. that's going to enable that fog to come in each and every morning this week. then we have some changes to take you through. just subtle changes for the mid section of the week. temperatures creeping up oh, so slightly. then this area of low pressure comes through by thursday. late spring storm slated to bring us a tenth of a rainfall ♪ south bay. 5:00 p.m. on thursday, take a look at this. wide spread shower activity. and gotting to move all of the way towards bakers field. not just us getting that activity. some in california will see that as well. not so far south as i would say los angeles though. here we go. temperatures stay nice and steady. seasonal conditions. like i said, it was hot last week. it was very hot april. warmer than average. as we get into this week, hit that street stride. we found our flow in the weather

department in terms of temperatures. let's see how we're flowing on the roads. mike in l.a. >> stop and flow, stop and slow, moving around. san mateo bridge, building the volume. a little haze. i'm sure a lot of drivers feel like there's haze as well getting started this monday. look at that. we'll show you the map and the flow across that san mateo bridge. now, there was a sign lit up on the sign. reminding folks the bridge itself, san mateo bridge will close 8th through 11th. we'll talk more about that as we approach the weekend. be prepared for that. meanwhile we know this right on schedule, typical pattern southbound 880 toward that san mateo bridge. 680 slows through pleasanton and fremont. typical pattern off of 580 which comes in off of the altamont and rest of the east bay. as we look to the south of there we will show you a map. san jose looking lighter than it did just five minutes ago. there's a crash north 101. i looked at the live camera. not much of an issue as we are coming up to the area. just starting to see a build.

welcome back. east coast college makes a statement about gender. massachusetts all female smith college will be oepg its doors to transgender students. starting this fall people who are born as men by identifying themselves as women can apply to smith college. school officials say this move is to respect and afford equal opportunity to all women. however, the school will not be accepting applications for women who identify themselves as men.

they say the driver attended a wine festival in livermore earlier in the day. and home at last for a bay area woman stranded on mt. everest after the deadly nepal earthquake. she's expected to fly into sfo in a little more than an hour. this morning the curfew in baltimore is lifted and life is slowly returning to normal. now elected leaders are trying to prevent any future violence. "today in the bay's" edward lawrence has the latest for us from washington. good morning. >> good morning, laura. so far the piece is holding after five days the mayor of baltimore says the curfew is no longer needed. right now police that have come in from other agencies to help have now been scaled back. the heals process took a giant step forward in baltimore, then the mayor lifted the curfew. maryland's governor says national guard troops will start leaving in the next few days. >> we had to build an entire city to save the city. so it's going to take a while

you be we've already started. >> we want to heal our city. we know we have challenges in baltimore. we know that there's work to be done. >> reporter: that work will start with a focus on the baltimore police. the mayor says there will be police reforms to prevent more deaths like freddie gray's. six officers face very serious charges in gray's death. maryland representative elijah cummings says the wheels of justice are turning for gray but now systemic issues must be addressed. >> you cannot address our economy without addressing the disparity among the races. you just can't. ethnic disparities. so we want to look at that. >> reporter: he wants to bring a bipartisan delegation from congress to tour baltimore to help make change. about 500 people were arrested during the unrest. most of them have actually been released because of system overload. they were not charged within the 48 hours as required by law. reporting live in washington, edward lawrence. back to you. >> thank you.

spectacular conditions as we get into this afternoon. finally hit that sweet stride of seasonal temperatures. sunshine coming your way in abundance later on. we'll see the clouds break apart and the sunshine through 11:00 a.m. let me take you through your forecast. today at lunchtime as you step out, 62 on the peninsula. 58 degrees on the east shore. 66 degrees in the tri-valley. as you make your way home from the office later on today it is going to be very, very comfortable. 70 for the south bay. same for the north bay. 73 in the tri-valley. with mid 60s coming your way on the east shore. the peninsula, and the same in san francisco for today. as we get into the next couple of days things are going to change but your air quality is not one of those things. staying nice and healthy for us all across the board. good air quality. you can open up the windows in your home. get a nice breath of that fresh bay area spring air. if you can take the pollen. we're going to look at when that pollen will peak later on this week in my next report.

i want to get you out that front door on that good note. here's mike inouye. >> i think i have to get a mask. my son is not doing well this season. looking at the maps. doing already for your morning commute. bottom of your screen, northbound 880, dlr reports of ladder in lanes. count er commute for most folks. meanwhile, northbound, this is for 680 through fremont. looking at another one, this is a crash right just past the mission off-ramp. the mission north one there as you're traveling past the washington district. travel flows smoothly but the crash is in the center divide. visible in the southbound commute likely and it will be a factor if it doesn't clear in the next few minutes. meanwhile, coming down into fremont for your commute southbound for 680 and for 880. we see a pretty typical pattern off of 580 through this area. we almost always see this slowing. here and the build continues over across the bay as well. as we look at 880 toward the san

mateo bridge, west 92 toward the peninsula side and live look at our camera from the toll plaza and this is a very light volume of traffic for almost 6:36 in the morning. no slowing from 101 through san mateo or into san francisco. we'll look out again to the shots for the bay bridge where the metering lights are on. this is your slowest spot for the bay right now as the backup forms into the maze. and also down the east shore freeway, slow through berkeley after the earlier crash that happened has long sense cleared. south bay, we'll look at san jose northbound 101. the crash north of this shot 58 allen rock is over on the shoulder so it hasn't played a factor. a little distraction but easy build. >> keep it moving, folks. >> keep it moving. >> thanks. right now at 6:36, still ahead, a big name in the bay area just announcing a bid for president. >> big things happening over at oracle arena. what about these gelden state warriors? what about mvp possibly for steph koorry? we have all your coverage for

in san jose, laura. john chambers is going to step aside as ceo of cisco as of july 26th. that announced just a few minutes ago. he will replaced by chuck robbins who is a long-time cisco exec. chambers joined cisco when it was a start-up. he's been ceo for almost exactly 20 years. a huge amount of time for any ceo at any company. this move is not unexpected. it's still strange to think of cisco without john chambers as ceo. shares in cisco barely moved this morning. perhaps showing just how inevitable this was. and how confident people are that robbins will continue many of the same policies. chambers also will stay ons chairman of the board. yet another indication cisco will always be cisco. the other ceo to talk about this morning, former hewlett-packard ceo carly fiorina announced this morning she is running for president of the united states. she's not held office before though she made a good showing in the senate race back in california in 2010.
