your mike roar climate? just moments right now a live look at the work and where the wind might be a factor, following both of those right now and a live look from inside the arena. man, it looks just like a totally different picture, except for that guy walking through this morning. other than that, no fans, but we know it will be a big game tonight. it is wednesday, may 13th, you are watching "today in the bay." a good wednesday morning, i'm sam brock, and i'm laura garcia-cann garcia-cannon. a horrific trash in the south bay overnight. this is what's left of a car that flipped several times down a creek. >> bob redell joins us live. investigators think speed likely played a role in this crash. what else are you learning this morning?

>> chp believes so far the driver was speeding when it was speeding with four passengers inside, and when the forte black mustang hit a curve about a half mile away from where we are standing right now, unfortunately the car kept going straight. it went off the road, overturned and landed 20 feet below in a dried-out creek. of the five people inside the car, the three women passengers, they all died along with another man, the driver, a man suffered with major injuries, is expected to survive. there are tire tread marks near where the car went off the road. chp is trying to figure out whether that means the driver tried to break or if those are just an indication of the slewing that the vehicle went through. they will also be testing his blood to see if he had been drinking. chp notes that everyone did have a seat belt on except for one attention who was seated in the back. again, five people inside this

vehicle, four perished last night. again chp, the initial kaition is that speed was a factor. they have not yet notified the family of these people. one officer noted that they are very local. those are his words, an indication that they live nearby. >> heavy day ahead, no doubt. thank you very much, bob. after an amtrak train derailment, mayor says not everyone has been accounted for why the. >> at least six people we know died. >> that sixth person died of massive chest injuries, according to a wrap-up that was about 45 minutes ago. several people are not out of the woods yet. >> three went to the operating room last night immediately. >> more than 100 people were treated for lesser injuries in addition to those eight that are

in critical condition. meantime this is the first daytime look. it looks like a pile of toy trains. the train was headed from washington, d.c. to new york when it went off the tracks in philadelphia. all seven cars flee out of the track, some passengers say they felt something was going wrong as the train enter the curve. >> we just rolled and rolled. next thing i knew we were pushing on the the emergency exit. i was outside, and people were screaming and bleeding. >> it's an absolute disastrous mess. i have never seen anything like there in my life. >> you can see people trying to help each other, even as others try to crawl to safety themselves. investigator quickly flooded the crash scene looking for more victims, as you said, some people are still unaccounted for, and also looking for clues

magnitude earthquake. the marines have several pieces of emergency equipment like a satellite phone and gps device, but they say rugged terrain in that area could make it hard for the marine toss actually use the devices. the helicopter is based out of camp pendleton, and at least one of the marines is stationed there as well. meantime, rescue crews are searching for survivors of the earthquake itself. many people spend the night outside for fear of aftershocks. as soon as the sun came up, crews went to work digging in the rubble. 65 people better killed yesterday. more than 8,000 died in last month's quake back in the bay area, are we ready for the next quake? today crews will be simulating a catastrophic earthquake along the san andreas fault. it's part of a two-day exercise to test the company's emergency preparedness. this gets under way today this morning at the operations center?

trong is live in berkeley with more. >> reporter: the city council went -- even then the city of berkeley expecting a legal challenge. what we are talking about is last night inside the chambers people were lining up in support of the right to know orton nance, require retailers to warning about the risks and dangers when they buy a cell phone. part of it reads if you carry a phone, you may exceed the federal guidelines for exposure to radio frequency radiation. this risk is greater for children, a warning that says is not only necessary but misleading. now your cell phone already has a warning that says you should hold your phone away from your body to expos radio frequently

south bay. good morning to you, happy to report we have a spring storm on the way. when i show you your average rainfall for this year, rainy season 2015 has not been that bad i'm going to show you that in just a moment. it's a cutoff low so, it doesn't have a lot to steer it inlisten. as a result it's going to seidel down the coastline. los angeles could pick up a half of an inch to an inch of rain, and we're all in it together when it comes to this drought, so every single drop helps. that's why i wanted to show you that. tomorrow and friday is when los angeles will get the rain. for us we are talking about this afternoon. you can see at that point during our broadcast we'll have shower activity, and continue to move you forward in time, we stop that clock again. at noon tomorrow, everybody getting that widespread activity

inside, they couldn't get in, they even kicked a hole through the door. this morning the family is hoping someone can identify the men. >> we need to put the people behind the bars. police say there's been more than a dozen burglaries in the last month. an amazing story of loyalty after a family and its dog separated during one of those recent tornadoes. they found the dog waiting at their former home. the truck flipped over, and the dog ran away. that reunion was emotional. >> he's just a part of the family. i don't really know what else to say. i'm just glad my dog's back. >> no words are necessary.

what a reunion. the family says the newborn baby made it out of the smashed truck without a ma every scratch. they want heart receipt tubman on the $20 bill instead of andrew jackson. more than 600,000 people voted online. tubman beat out eleanor roosevelt and rosa parks. tubman guided slaves to freedom back in the 1820s, a treasury spokesperson says it's received several currency ideas, but has no comment on this specific campaign rescue crews are looking for passengers since the train derail in philadelphia. at least six people have died. >> bob, investigators think speed was certainly a factor in this crash? >> they do. good morning to you, laura and sam, but they will not say home faster they they this driver was going. and within the past hour, a wrecker has removed that car, as you mentioned. once you take a look at this vehicle, what's left of the ford mistake, you can see why why so many people died in this doesn't. the driver had four passengers inside. they hit the curve, kept going straight, overturned and landed in a 20-foot dried-out creek. the passengersal died. the driver suffered major injuries, but is expected to survive. chp will also test his blood to see if he had been drinking. no indication one way or the other as of yet. they're also trying to determine

national transportation safety administration and the fbi are on the scene. they arrived in the last half hour. they say this appears to be a terrible accident and there appears to be no evidence of foul play. the doctor in charge in fp says a sixth victim suck coupled to massive chest injuries this morning and several others are not out of the woods yet. >> in critical condition. three went to the operating room last night immediately. >> more than 100 other people were treated for broken bones and more minor injuries. the doctors say some were from as far away as europe. meantime weerp getting a daytime look at the scene. they're checking to make issue there aren't more victims trapped in the wreckage. all seven cars flew off the track in philadelphia. some passengers say they felt something was going wrong as the train entered that curve. >> you could feel it off the

lamar disappeared three years ago while walking to a school bus stop and her body still has not been found. the prosecutors say her dna was discovered in the defendant's car. he as pleaded not guilty a san francisco police officer involved in the department's texting scandal is taking legal action to save his job and those of nine others. it comes after the police chief recommended the officers be fired for trading racist and homophobic texts. now one of those officers has filed a complaint in court, claiming the statute of limitations has run out. the officers says the department knew about the texts two two years, but just recently began investigating. under current law, the department has one years to take action. switching gears to the sports world, getting ready for game 5. a live look from inside oracle arena. no balls swishing through the hoops yet, but stef curry will have something to say about that. fans will be packing oracle for

this has a couple interesting component when it comes to a late spring storm. let me show you what's going on. you'll note this steady plume of moisture that extends that is the pineapple express. we're going to tap into some of that subtropical moisture, resultantly getting good-looking rain totals for this time of year of. we're expecting showers to seidel down the coastline, not just impacting us in the bay area, reaching all the way south into southern california. los angeles could pick up a half inch to an inch of rainfall out of this system. weather story of the day works like this. we're going to start to see our first activity. that cloudy start will make way to drizzle and light asp showers. count on temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s as you break for lunch.

increase. authorities have spent the night used flashlights to go through the wreckage of this seven-car train to try and see if -- but now that the sun has gone up, they can see a lot better. they have brought in big cranes to be able to lift the train cars and start to get them into position where the ntsb can take a look. we have also learned in the last hour, the ntsb has arrived on the scene, about a team of 20 people will be investigating, including a recorder specialist, the person who will go into the lock motive and download the data to find out what this train was doing when it crashed. the reason why that is important is because where we are right now, there's a big curve in the track. the train is supposed to slow down heading into that curve. that will be one area of focus, whether that train was speeding when it went into the curve. latest information we have, six people died in this crash. live in philadelphia, i'm chris

through next week. 50s to start with, 52 on the peninsula. and 52 in san francisco. 47 meanwhile, to kick off the new day in the north bay. take it to futurecast, give you an idea of when you can expect showers. we still have that clock for you. at 5:00 p.m., just light activity at that point, and the storm system has a really unusual track associated with it. we take you into the 1:00 p.m. hour tomorrow. that's when the bulk of the moisture will come through. starting at about 8:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m., that rich moisture, a free car wash. let mother nature do it for you. tomorrow things start to improve as we head through friday. by 7:00 a.m., we stop the clock on the futurecast. mostly in the south bay and at the coast at that point then let me take you into saturday with some graduations taking place.

outdoors, of course, because in may we don't usually get shower activity. good news is everything will clear out just in time for the afternoon. if you are attending any of those graduations, looking good for a clear sky. by about 9:00 a.m. to noon on saturday. totals, look at they number, very impressive for this time of year, just under 0.3 of an inch in san jose, over a quarter expected in livermore, yeah, about 0.2 on the way to santa rosa. the good news is we're going to pick up our average may totals. we're going to pick many our average may totals from this single storm 178. when it comes to snow in tahoe, what you will notice here is potential 1 to 2 feet possible. we're going to see that above 8,000 feet, but looking about for potential 1 to 2 feet. mammoth is still open and they're going to stay open this weekend. we're looking towards the 60s and 70s. sunday will be your better day
