of the way to tuesday. >> one day better than that. >> 4:30. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. we have breaking news. a fire over night at an industrial business in san jose wedged between 101 and 880. that fire is now under control but the health concern is far from over. >> it could be a long morning. we have team coverage. let's begin with bob redell live at the scene. firefighters might have a hazmat situation on their hands. >> reporter: they definitely do. they have confirmed san jose fire department confirmed there were hazardous materials inside this detailing plant when it caught fire just after midnight. these are the chemicals used for metal plating and evening. the chemicals did contaminate the runoff water from fighting this fire. that's why they set up a ten-block radius to keep people out of the industrial park area. we're talking about thousands of gallons of water that poured out of five fire ariel master streams to put out the fire.

the water has been tested, found to be caustic. firefighters has contained it as much as possible. it's basically a large pond in this area. trying to keep it from going into the storm drains. they're still working on a plan on how to remove it or neutralize it. hope to have a better idea once the sun comes up. >> i would say right now it's green, it's foamy, it looks nasty. we actually left a couple of our rigs unattended because we don't want to put our personnel in position if that water. >> reporter: 35 of the 100 firefighters on the scene had to be decontaminated. everyone is fine. the fire started around 12:30 this morning. it's a large two-story l-shaped concrete building. the fire was so big it was already punching through the roof when the fire defendant arrived. they went on the offensive, called for a fourth alarm. had it under control in 1:25. there are placards on the building to indicate there were

hazardous materials on inside. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, bob. of course, crews are trying to do their work out there. >> hopefully winds are not a factor in this as well. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren. >> i think that's why they were able to contain this so quickly. we've got two ingredients that are helpful to firefighters. we have high humidity and the range of 75 to 80%. and really no wind to speak of at this time. so san jose, commercial building, you can see where it's located on the map here. i drove past this on my way to work this morning on 101 headed northbound. let's find out if it is impacting your drive. certainly at least a distraction, mike. >> christina, so you passed by it. did you see it from the freeway? >> oh, yeah. i saw the flashing lights and they woke me up. >> christina saw flashing lights. we didn't see any flames. that will affect the activity. a distraction. this is a light vol yuchl of traffic over the shoulder but let's look at your maps. we zoo m into the south bay.

plant. fire crews say the refinery experienced some kind of emergency but it never posed any threats to the public and is now under control. a high-end call girl accused of killing a google executive set to return to court later today. prosecutors say alex ticklessman injected him while on his yacht in santa cruz. tickleman pled not guilty. four students mourned in a week. that's what the gilroy community is coping in with parents and teachers hope this can be a teaching moment for their kids about drinking and driving. last night hundreds of people gathered for a vigil at christopher high school for the high school senior killed in a car crash last week. three other people in that car also died. the driver survived and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. >> we try to tell our kids, say no. if somebody is drinking, don't get in the car with them. if somebody has been using drug, don't get in the car with them.

>> we have graduation just a little over three weeks away and we want all of our seniors to really be thinking about their driving behavior and their friends' driving behavior. so we're really going to step that up over the next few weeks. >> how quickly things can change. another christopher high school student died in a car crash in a week before sara. her name is natalia salcido. her memorial was on sunday, what would have been her 16th birthday. 4:36. busy streets, coffee shops, traffic, and a mountain lion in downtown san mateo yesterday. the animal creating quite a scare. this morning he's back in a more appropriate habitat. the department of fish and wildlife tranquilized the cat and loaded it on a truck last night following an intense search. after several sightings around 9th and palm avenues yesterday police zeroed in on the mountain lion. one woman even saw it jump her

fence. >> it was really pretty. it was -- it was pretty big. but, yeah, it seemed scared. >> pretty from affair pab. at one point during the search police say a man fired a shot into the ground trying to scare the animal. that's a big no-no. the da is now going to decide if he will face charges. nobody was hurt. the department of fish and wildlife released the cat near the crystal springs reservoir west of interstate 280. this morning crews will begin the tough task of bearing two whales that washed up on pacific beach. they were going to let the whales decompose on the beach where they've been for civil weeks but the problem is people started complaining about the stench. the san francisco recreation and parks department now plans to bury the whales starting today. gavin newson will speak today on marijuana policy. the goal is to discuss ways to discuss the health of kids and

battle over a censored anti-muslim youtube video. they ruled that youtube should not been ordered to take down the film. this even though it spark i'd violence in the mid east and death threats against the actors. performers claim they didn't know they were taking part in an anti-muslim film. in 2012 three-judge panel agreed and ordered that film be pulled. bud yesterday an 11-judge panel overturned that decision. no word on whether youtube will be reposting the film. it is 4:45. and new this morning we now have some idea when thousands of e-mails from hillary clinton's private server will be made public. state department is proposing releasing portions of the e-mails by january. the department made that proposal in a federal court filing late yesterday. their review of 55,000 e-mails is expected to last through the end of the year. right now they setting a rough date for january 15th. parents listen up. consumer groups want the government to invest gate the youtube kids app for inappropriate content. >> for more on that and the rest

of your news before the bell we turn to landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning. >> good morning to you. the markets will try to add to monday's gains today. futures are pointing to a higher open. dow and s&p 500 closing on a new record high. data today on new home construction and earnings and retailer, home depot and walmart. rising 26 points to 18298. nasdaq up 30 to 5078. the federal trade commission is urged to investigate youtube's kids app for inappropriate content. google owns youtube launched the app in february saying videos were made for ages 5 and under but they found videos with explicit language and jokes about violence and drug use. the content is picked up by using automatic filters, user feedback, and manual reviews. and billionaire investor carl icahn sent a letter to apple ceo tim cook on monday saying he expects the company to

launch an ultra high deaf tv set next year but after nearly a decade of research apple shelved those plans more than a year ago. it's focused on developing an online tv service and redesigned am tv box, both are expected to be unveiled next month. back over to you. >> landon dowdy live from world headquarters. thank you very much. dozens are dead after an avalanche of mud swept through homes in colombia. heavy rains triggered the slide in the town of salgar, 60 miles from the capital. at least 58 people died. mud swept away housing as people were sleeping. the search right now is on for survivors. shoddy construction there is believed to have contributed to the disaster. we do have some amazing video to show you this morning of a massive hailstorm pummeling west texas. take a look. the hail came down hard and heavy. some of the hail stones were as large as tennis balls. the storm led to a tornado

a little bit expected over the mountains for today. high elevations in the north bay. east bay hills. the santa cruz mountains. as we take your into your thursday at 4:00 p.m., more wide spread action coming your way especially down in the south bay. the system has an interesting tract. it looks like the heaviest totals are down south as a result of that. that will continue into friday morning. also 20% chance for the first part of your saturday for a little bit of shower activity. if you're trying to make those outdoor plans for this holiday weekend, looking a little bit sunnier and warmer on sunday and monday than what we are expecting for you on saturday. temperatures work like this. low to mid 70s for the south bay. the peninsula will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. mid 60s in san francisco. especially sunday and monday. if you ant to get out there do a little water sporting bep have nice conditions expected in the east bay and the north bay as well. mid to upper 70s in wine country, which is always pretty popular place memorial day weekend. we'll talk more about the shower, how much we're expecting

westbound, tail lights going over toward the peninsula without any real delay. on the peninsula, look at this, northbound 280 suddenly shows a lot of slowing as you head up toward san mateo or southbound shows slowing as well. no incidents reported for the area. my guess is just some sensor update but we'll track that just to be sure. as we move the map around we'll show you the north bay, smooth drive. same thing for the east bay. debris reporting central lafayette off-ramp. sounds like someone left a cone there or dropped a cone off the truck. meanwhile, the rest of your bay moves smoothly. tiny build out of the altamont on the right. in san jose that fire where bob is, that caustic runoff has a perimeter but it's only the location right around the fire itself. no roadways i'm told are affecting the freeways are moving smoothly. this is a first. sitting president with a very own twitter account. up until now president obama would use the white house account or his campaign account, but as of yesterday he's tweeting with the hndle potus. not first tweet, hello, twitter,
