coming up on "early today," breaking news on a suspect in the washington, d.c. murder mystery that left four people dead. then the oil spill along the california coast. it has now spread over nine miles with up to 105,000 gallons. newly revealed insights into the mind of osama bin laden and his al qaeda operations, all from evidence captured at his compound by s.e.a.l. team six. plus the end of a television era, david letterman signs off with an all-star top ten. can you guess what day it is around hire? any hints? if you're not quite sure, it's red nose day. we'll tell you all about it. we want to start with breaking news. a suspect emerges in a vicious high profile murder all thanks to a pizza. it started last week. a family of three and their housekeeper were reportedly held hostage inside their multimillion dollar mansion. authorities say they were bound, then murdered and the house set on fire. at some point during the ordeal at least two people made separate deliveries to the home, one a $40,000 cash drop-off from the homeowner's assistant, the other a domino's pizza which could prove crucial to the case. overnight according to "the washington post," police matched dna found on the crust of that pizza to this man, 34-year-old daron dylon wint, he's wanted for first degree murder. one of the victims was a wealthy businessman. police haven't yet revealed any connection between the suspect and the family. also this morning, an environmental emergency on the west coast, crews racing to

contain a 105,000-gallon oil spill, two slicks in fact, now stretched nine miles down the santa barbara coast. they show wildlivs drenched in oil and even a whale trying to swim through it. the leak was caused by a ruptured pipeline. the company that owns it is making this promise. >> we're committed to the thorough cleanup of this accident. >> so far 20 barrels of oil have been recovered from the ocean, 100 from the spill site. it's been four years since a u.s. military raid killed osama bin laden. now we're getting a closer look at what his private life was like. the government released a stunning trove of documents from s.e.a.l. team six from inside the hideout where he was killed. nbc's chief foreign affairs correspondent andrea mitchell has been poring over this material. >> reporter: from the grave, a new portrait of osama bin laden revealed in hundreds of documents, letters, books, video games found by s.e.a.l. team six at his compound.

the al qaeda leader telling followers not to grab territory, to keep going after american targets. you should ask them to avoid insisting on the formation of an islamic state at the time being, but to work on breaking the power of our main enemy by attacking the american embassies in in the african countries such as sierra leone, togo and mainly to attack the american oil companies. then bin laden's bookshelf, a digital library, everything from bob woodward's "obama's wars," to classics like paul kennedy's "the rise and fall of the great powers" and the "delta force extreme 2" video game, most likely for his children. the treasure trove offers new insights into bin laden the ceo of al qaeda central, a bureaucracy complete with a lengthy online application, questions like what is your favorite material, science or literature? the final question, who should we contact in case you become a martyr? and bin laden closely tracked

the u.s. when the pentagon warned that the wikileaks document dump could cost lives -- >> the truth is they may already have on their hands the blood of some young soldier or that of an afghan family. >> reporter: -- an al qaeda operative writes bin laden please dedicate some brothers to translate the documents on afghanistan and pakistan that were leaked from the pentagon because these documents contain the strategy of the enemy in the area. the biggest surprise, bin laden the family man. affectionate letters to a wife then in iran, but warning her to remove fillings from his teeth before she comes to his hideout in case the iranians inserted a tracking device. >> that was nbc's andrea mitchell reporting. the florida man who landed his gyro copter on capitol hill last month could face 9 1/2 years in prison. dug hughes was indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday, facing six charges including flying out national certification and violating national defense air space. hughes says he was trying to make a point about how congress is not working for the people.

leading the news on nbcnews.com. georgia teacher charged with helping middle schoolers have sex in closet. court record alleges the math and science teacher handed out condoms and kept watch while his students had sex in a storage closet. the teacher who is free on bond has reportedly resigned from the school. in the "beaver dam daily citizen" in wisconsin, service animal change would keep out kangaroos. in february a woman was asked to leave a beaver dam mcdonald's after she brought in a baby kangaroo she said was a therapy animal. the town is considering an ordinance amendment that would redefine service animals as a dog or miniature horse. dea agents pulled off a massive prescription drug bust yesterday dubbed operation pollution. pharmacies and clinics were raided in arkansas, alabama,

louisiana and mississippi. 280 people arrested for illegally selling pain killers. to texas, a retired san antonio police officer was among the 170 bikers arrested after the deadly brawl in waco. he retired in 2004 after 32 years in the force. he's charged with engaging in organized criminal activity. in syria, isis fighters have seized control of palmyra. the historic city is over 3,000 years old, dating back to the time of the ancient greeks. many worry isis fighters may pillage and destroy its ruins, just as they have done to other ancient sites in syria and iraq. you have to check this out. a dog trainer has taught his two border collies some really cool tricks. the dogs can do a number of tracks standing on their hind legs to standing on each other. wow.
