5:34 am
suspects at the onset of the investigation. officers found three others hiding in the same backyard. two of the adults apparently resisted arrest. when they were caught, they were bitten by the police dogs. firefighters arrived to provide medical attention at the scene for those suspects. then they were taken to jail. but not before a massive search here in the north end of town. >> we probably have in the neighborhood of 26 to 30 police officers here. primarily from san jose pd but in this case we also utilized the canine officer and two extra officers from santa clara and another canine officer from sunnyvale and two extra officers from sunnyvale. >> reporter: police say they found evidence from the two robberies on some of the victims. they brought the victims over to the scene to positively identify the suspects who were then taken away in handcuffs. they called in their own helicopter but that was not able to fly. neither was the helicopter from the sheriff's office. chp he'll continue, told them
5:35 am
they could not fly because of today's weather conditions. but they have their suspects, that i is a i. live in san jose, touchdow"toda bay." >> thank you, damian. we're also tracking a breaking story out of daly city. looking at the aftermath of a crash between a stolen dump truck and van. all of this starting overnight when police tried to pull over the dump truck. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live in daly city. the chase and crash, busy intersection is closed out there this morning. >> reporter: closed at least for another 2 1/2 hours what police think here at san jose and daly city. that issue is that dump truck right now, the wrecking crew is trying to remove. it was wrapped around the utility pole. the driver of the stolen dump truck ended up with hitting that hundred any van right there that had three people inside. all three of them taken to the hospital. this started around midnight.
5:36 am
sometime after midnight in the city of coma. police there saw the stolen dump truck, the driver driving it around in a town home complex. seemed out of place. peeked his interest and they ran the plates and plates came back stolen. that's when the officer tried to pull over the driver of the stolen dump truck. the driver was not going to comply. and according to police, tried to ram the police officer. fortunately missed. that's when they had the chase. the chase went briefly in the south city and then here down san jose in daly city where the driver of the pickup truck -- excuse me, the dump truck collide with that minivan, sending the minivan into a parked car and wrapping around the utility pole. the three people in the minivan, 16-year-old girl, all three as i mentioned taken to the hospital. one with serious but not life-threatening injuries. the other two minor injuries. the driver of the stolen dump truck did get out and tried to run away.
5:37 am
the police was here. he was arrested and taken to the hospital with minor injuries and presumably will be booked, charged, and put into jail. again, so they're talking about another -- talk about 8:00 when they're going to try to get this intersection reopened. not only do you have all of this debris, the two vehicles that were involved in the accident, but you also have diesel spill on the ground. they put absorbent material down but it takes some time to clean that up. again, they're trying to reopen this intersection in daly city by around 8:00 this morning. reporting live here in daly city, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> quite the mess out there. like you said, who would steal a dump truck. >> how far away can you go in a dump truck? >> how fast and furious can you get in a dump truck? if you are in the city or a lot of parts of the bay area right now, misty out there. some slight drizzling. >> yeah. this is what it looks like. you can see. the san francisco right now from the camera viewing looking down through the mist and drizzle across the bay bridge. 56 degrees in san francisco.
5:38 am
but a very different view as we take you to the south bay. san jose, 57 right now. you got the clouds but a little less in the way of drizzle now through 7:00 and 8:00 this morning you got some of that light rain around the peninsula. low level clouds being forced to rise over the costa hilltops. rings out just enough to measure light rain at times for the morning commute around san francisco. the hilltops out toward the east of san jose and north bay we do have a chance of seeing a few isolated showers through the afternoon. 50s to start the day. really it's going to be light jacket weather into the afternoon for some of our inland valleys. beget the highs only in the mid 60s around morgan hill and san jose. upper 50s to near 60 in san francisco. north bay, looking at highs in the mid 60s and pleasanton and livermore, upper 60s and about the same for friday but if you're making plans for your memorial day weekend here's the good news. if you like 70s at least we're going to see slight warm-up around the south bay and tri-valley. as we approach monday, temperatures will cool a little bit but overall a bit of a warming trend as we head through the holiday weekend.
5:39 am
now for another check of your thursday commute, here's mike. >> take you back out to the tri-valley talking about debris right around north. rub a dub dub watch out for the tub. a bathtub still sticking out in the slow lane. it looks like things are starting to smooth out through livermore and dublin. . i typical for the tri-valley. otherwise, though, on the peninsula. 280 moves smoothly but san jose avenue right by where bob redell is reporting off of 208. closed for a couple of hours it could be a big issue for locals for the morning commute. we'll get an update for bob, if it's going to be a complete closure or might open a couple of lanes. we'll check the east shore freeway. the bay bridge toll plaza itself, the metering lights are on. back to you. bay area man taken to the ground and hit with a stun gun at lax. the whole thing was caught on camera. that's not even the craziest thing about this story. wait until you hear who was behind the camera.
