anything that hurts this morning after your bike ride. >> never happened. >> i am going to respectfully take a pass on that, carson, but nice to see you back. good job with the finale of "the voice" and see what that is, that is the skyline of new york city and the empire state building which means only the east river separates us and i'm going to take off and head towards you in a couple minutes. >> we cannot wait to welcome you back. so so proud. we'll see you ins just a few and check in with you along the way. but we want to get to our top story this morning, a big one. the manhunt for that suspect in a chilling murder case in the nation's capital that has captivated the country. he has been identified by of all things a pizza crust left at the crime scene. nbc's national correspondent peter alexander is covering this for us. peter this is a major break, good morning to you. >> yeah, savannah, exactly right. first the murders and now the manhunt. dramatic developments overnight a ton of information this morning. police are looking for the

34-year-old suspect, daron dylan wynn who they connected by pizza crust left at the scene. new video from overnight that we shot where police went to the last known address of wynn, about a half hour away from the mansion, the home here in d.c. it's in maryland. significantly it's near to where the family's car was found burning exactly a week ago and now the manhunt has intensified. this morning, washington, d.c., police say this man is suspected in the brutal killings of the family and their housekeeper one week ago. the police are now asking the public for help finding daron wynn, a warrant charging murder one while armed. "the washington post" reports the break in the case that haunted the nation's capital came after police matched him to dna found on the crust of a domino's pizza ordered to the multimillion-dollar mansion last wednesday as the four hostages

were held captive inside. the announcement came after a source close to the family says hours before the fire, the assistant delivered $40,000 cash to the home. the money withdrawn from an account at american iron works where he was ceo. nbc station wrc reports savopoulus called thursday asking the assistant to deliver the cash. >> use caution. this is a crime scene. >> reporter: when firefighters arrived at the house thursday afternoon investigators say the $40,000 was gone and so was the family a's porsche later found abandoned and torched 15 miles away. it's unclear whether he is the person of interest seen in the surveillance video running from the car fire but public records show he has lived at several addresses in that area. went has been arrested numerous times. crime scene investigators searched the home for blood stains. sources familiar with the investigation say the fire began on the second floor in 10-year-old philip's room. all three of the adults were found down the hall in a

separate room, beaten and stabbed. and again this morning our local station wrc is reporting that police believe wynn lefts the washington, d.c., area shortly after those murders took place, exactly a week ago. throughout this investigation investigators have told us they believe there may have been more than one person involved in these murders. right now the hunt is on specifically for that man, daron wynn. a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. back to you. >> thank you so much. turn to nbc news law enforcement analyst jim cavanagh, retired atf special agent in charge. good morning to you. i have to say, this is extraordinary, that investigators were able to find this suspect they say from dna on a pizza crust of all things. >> right, savannah. solid police work by the d.c. homicide detectives. they poured the resources on it.

they were backed up by atf, fbi, lab, i'm sure. now they have the suspect so the whole complexion changes and wynn likely has fled. either criminal actor, a lot of cash in his pocket, tend to go to places like florida, california, caribbean, they have cash, likely to be in a hotel. he won't be free long because his picture will be all over the national media and social media and anybody he's in contact with, anybody, even a person he's known a long time is in danger because this guy will be a desperate man. >> you say it's huge to be able to put a name and face to this suspect that the d.c. police have identified so it sounds like you're confident that with that wherever he's gone, they're going to be able to find him. >> the greatest intelligence system in the world is america's broadcast media, radio, print media, followed by social media. nobody will get away when their picture is all over like that. he's a guy paying cash, not likely in his home environment.

he will be in a hotel, buying a plane ticket with cash, paying everything with cash with the $40,000 that he brutally murdered the family with. he's a guy who's likely had contact with that -- mr. savopoulus. he's a buffed out looking guy. there might have been contacts there. and he made this plan and likely has a helper confed deteriorate if that helper is still alive. one could kill the other in a crime this brutal. >> it's obviously a huge development in this case. thank you very much for your perspective. always good to talk to you. >> thanks, savannah. >> an oil spill off the southern california coast is worse than expected as much as 105,000 gallons may have leaked from a broken pipeline near santa barbara. the slick now stretching nine miles. halle jackson is on one of the beaches shut down by the oil. how is it looking this morning? >> the sun has come up out west here so cleanup should begin shortly. we moved further south down the

coast to the community of santa barbara. it is a very popular town for the weekend but this coming weekend two of the biggest state beaches have been closed disappointing folks. we expect more responders to descend on santa barbara county today joining the 300 some personnel already on scene. the coast guard says oil floating off the coast after a spill from a broken oil pipeline stretches about 9 miles, more than doubling the affected area. since an onshore oil pipeline broke tuesday and leaked for several hours, as much as 105,000 gallons of oil may have spilled into the ocean, five times more than initial estimates. on wednesday governor jerry brown declared a state of emergency to free up resources to respond to the spill. >> this is a disaster. it's a worst nightmare scenario. >> reporter: the district and state attorneys general are investigating the pipeline spill for possible criminal prosecution.

this comes as the "l.a. times" reports that the all american pipeline the texas based company responsible for the ruptured pipe, has accumulated 175 safety and maintenance infractions since 2006, more than three times the national average. none of the past incidents resulted in injuries, but the pipe company settled with the epa for a series of leaks in the midwest. california officials haves closed both refugio and el capitan state beach for the busy weekend and the state department of fish and wildlife closed fishing and shellfish harvesting for a mile. >> the care and safety of everyone affected remains our top priority in our response. >> reporter: all american pipeline has apologized for what it calls the inconvenience of the community because of the spill and hopes to minimize the environmental impact and is committed to the cleanup, savannah and carson, a process that could certainly take days, if not weeks. >> yeah. a lot of cleaning up to do there. on the story for us, thanks, hally.

>> this is not some kind of detached strategic leader. this is very much someone who has his hands in the mechanism, his lieutenants are back and forth with him. >> reporter: bin laden's letters, even a notebook in his own handwriting reveal a network run like a business with an on-line job application asking aspiring terrorists any hobbies or past times, do you know any workers or experts in chemistry, communications or other fields? do you wish to execute a suicide operation? and finally, who should we contact in case you become a martyr. bin laden is also revealed an increasingly isolated in abbottabad, months before the s.e.a.l. team six attack, he wrote his favorite wife, i think i have to leave them, referring to the brothers guarding him. he didn't leave in time. bin laden, a family man, wrote passionate letters to a wife living in iran. warning her to remove fillings from her teeth, in case the

ramadi the terror group controls over half of syrian territory. palmyra dates back to the first and second centuries. a second marine killed in the hard landing of an osprey aircraft has been identified. officials say 21-year-old lance corporal matt through detserman died during a training mission in hawaii. two remain hospitalized in stable condition. a tragic story, in omaha this morning, where a police officer was killed just one day before she was supposed to begin her delayed maternity leave. 29-year-old keri orosko was shot in an exchange of gunfire. the suspect was killed. she was a new mother, her newborn daughter born prematurely in february and set to be released from an omaha hospital today. this morning the "new york times" began publishing more than 300 pages of hillary clinton's e-mails from the time when she was secretary of state. the documents had not yet been

people right now hospitalized after a police chase with a dump truck especiallied in a crash in daly city. someone stole the truck overnight. officers located the truck and the driver took off nearly rung over a police officer in the process. that's when he was inside the dump truck. the chase followed on the truck struck a van carrying three people. police say the suspect got out and tried to run for it before us aers were able to catch upnd nab him. police in san francisco are looking for a man who helped an elderly woman after she was beaten on mother's day. 77-year-old suffered serious injuries when another woman severely beat her for no apparent reason. this happened as we said on mother's day in chinatown. investigators want to speak with the man who came to her aid. they're hoping he can provide clues about the attacker.

but it still didn't make me think -- looking back it's a little funny -- but there was something wrong. >> you never would have thought at your age that something was wrong. you either. i mean you say you're doing well. you look great. have there been more effects, though, long-term effects of the stroke? >> no, not really. i actually just went back to coaching shortly after, because i, you know, they needed me. so, i wasn't going to let that set me back. and so i decided, you know it's time to come back. i've got to come back strong. i have to show people that even if you have a stroke you go on with your life. and so i just got done coaching a softball team, and amazing, amazing girls. and yeah so i'm back. >> you're moving forward with your life but ruth and carolyn, doctor, both give us examples of there's no age, there's no gender, but women are more affected by stroke which we don't talk about, it seems, a lot. >> right. i mean, really the interesting

thing is people don't think strokes occur to younger people right? they think it happens when you get older, but really that's not true. and these stories exemplify that it can happen at any age. so, everybody should know the signs and symptoms of stroke and what to do about it. also, it shows the potential for recovery, right? people think you have a stroke and that's it? >> right. >> it's not it. they're living happy, healthy lives. carolyn's my patient, and she's doing very very well. so, the importance is getting treatment right away recognizing the signs and symptoms. >> when you talk about an acronym, f.a.s.t. because as you say, every second counts, brain cells are dying with every minute. what's f.a.s.t. mean? >> we say time is brain. every minute that the brain didn't getting floodblood flow there is potential for significant injury. you think face. all of a sudden, their face is drooping, they can't smile very well, that might be a problem. ask them to lift their arms. if it's weak on one side that happened all of a sudden, that might be a sign of a stroke. ask them to speak a simple sentence.
