today, a dangerous mistake, lethal, live anthrax was accidently shipped by the military to nine states and overseas. extreme rain. and the latest in the fifa dragnet. as law enforcement lay out the case against the world's most poplar sport. "early today" starts now. it is a dangerous and frightening mistake by our government. today the pentagon is fessing up. live samples of anthrax was sent around the u.s. and as far away as south korea. they were radiated. supposedly inactive, but they

were found to be live. and since all the shipments are from that same stock, they fear they have live spores. no one has been infected. and they don't suspect any risk to the general public, but they were sent via fedex and handled by lab workers who weren't fully protected. now to the onslaught of severe weather still walloping the south. this is live in oklahoma city where lightening was bursting across the sky over few seconds. in the texas panhandle, a tornado touched down and damaged a gas drilling rig. you can hear the force of the wind. in kansas, a slightly different sound. that's not wind. it is golf ball sized hail.

look at this falling through a walmart roof. severe thunderstorms moved through that area. but it's disastrous flooding that has people across the south searching for nine still messing. at least 33 people are dead from texas to oklahoma. and gabe gutierrez spoke to a family at the center of the tragedy. >> reporter: a massive search effort is growing. authorities in hays county identify another victim. 42-year-old michelle sharba. we spoke with her sister and brother-in-law just before the tragic news. >> my sister, my best friend. we're three years apart. she's just the most outgoing, gregarious, sweet, wants-to-be everybody's friend. >> reporter: she's still searching for other family members.

>> we used to sing song and make up his own words to songs. >> reporter: around 11:00 saturday night, her mother texted this picture of the rising water. it was around 1:00 the home was swept away, the families inside. neighbors say her father had run out to start the suv found still running the next morning. when she found the property this wasn't what she expected. >> she fell down, crumpled her knees. >> we never thought that the house could be knocked over, ever. >> reporter: she has spoken with the lone survivor so far, jonathan mccomb, devastated. the search for his wife and two children continues. >> we're going to survive this together. as a family. we have faith that we will get through this. and we're praying for miracles.

>> that was gabe gutierrez reporting. we are still learning more about those massive corruption allegations on an international scale. fraud and bribery against top bosses at fifa. and it's the united states blowing the lid off all of this with a slough of federal charges. nbc news peter alexander has the story. >> reporter: in switzerland, seven of the top officials were arrested in a pre-dawn raid. in miami, the fbi searched the headquarters of fifa's u.s. affiliate. 14 face corruption charms involving more than $150 million in bribes and kickbacks. >> they corrupted the business of worldwide soccer to serve their interests and to enrich themselves. >> reporter: fifa is the international soccer what the ioc is to the olympics, regulating and promoting the sport worldwide. awarding sponsorships and tv rights worth millions. and picking hosts for the world cup.

tractor-trailer. a multi-vehicle pileup. he suffered a brain injury, nose, ribs. terms are confidential. he the walmart had already settled with the family of the man killed in the crash. his children reportedly receiving $10 million. the limo driver said the truck hit without warning. >> it was unreal, i mean, i didn't know what happened. >> reporter: morgan and his companions were returning home after a performance. the truck driver, accused of driving some 20 miles per hour too fast and with too little sleep has pled not guilty to charges that include death by auto. ron allen, nbc news, new york.
