life-threatening rains that just won't stop across texas and the plains. more dangerous flash floods could be on the way. president obama has declared it a disaster area. >> reporter: erica, good morning to you. we were hoping to show the spillway the weather is so bad right now, there's lightning, thunder and we're under a flash flood warning. our team has taken coverage out of a covered entrance. for people who live in texas this is just unimaginable after a week of punishing rain and flash flooding that we have had here. another round of punishing rain for flood-ravaged parts of texas. south of houston, an mandatory evacuated. >> it's like a ghost town now. >> reporter: the deluge hit

dallas friday. the ground already saturated from weeks of rain. roads flooded in an instant. dozens had to be rescued. for some the only way out was to be air lifted. part of one highway will be shut down for days. >> this water will not disappear overnight. it could take days. we're asking for people to head home early. >> reporter: it's been the wettest month on record for texas. 35 trillion gallons of rain enough to cover the entire state in 8 inches of water. perhaps hardest hit the central texas town of wimberley. there's devastation in every direction. >> you see the damage that has been done not only to our house but the houses on this street i think we're recovering from the shock right now. >> reporter: the cleanup is stressful and could be dangerous.

>> the contaminants in the water. >> reporter: the flood waters washed away treasures that can never be replace. it also delivered something that no one wants, snakes turning up in an unexpected places. >> it's very frightening. >> reporter: so this weather is going to make cleanup impossible and it will take very little right now to start the flash flooding all over again. we're in dentdown county we're under a flash flooding warning. you can hear the thunder in the background. the storm sueewers are full. dylan, we wished we better news for the folks in the plains it's not coming yet. 25 straight days of rain. >> and the amount of rain that's

fallen in those days of rain. flash flooding watches in effect. now, we do some rain across the midwest. but it's this area right through texas where we're seeing those thunderstorms where janet is, we have flash flood warnings in red, that's where we're seeing our heaviest rain this morning. we're already looking at about 20 inches of rain in some areas. up into oklahoma this is for the month of may. 3 to 4 inches of rain. going through the today, this is going to trigger more storms. this setup and this pattern remains, they'll see future days of rain going into next week. former house speaker dennis hastert is out of site this morning.

the charges a shock to those who know him well. kevin tibls is in yorkville, illinois where he was beloved coach. >> reporter: dennis hastert was a very popular teacher and wrestling coach. revelations that he had been paying hush money to cover up past misconduct has this left this community stunned. he's not been seen just down the road in yorkville, where he was a high school history teacher and popular wrestling coach, disbelief. has tartt coach gary. disbelief. hastert coached gary matlock. >> he was a professionals a teacher and coach and as a >> i would refer to him as my second father. >> reporter: according to the federal indictment he agreed to

provide $3.5 million to someone in yorkville to conceal his prior misconduct. it doesn't reveal what that misconduct was or whom the payments were being made to. they were to a man and that the misconduct was of a sexual nature when the man was a student. student. prosecutors say hastert had already withdrawn $1.7 million from bank accounts and had broken federal banking transaction rules. political reverb rations traveled through illinois and beyond. >> i am saddened by this news and nobody wants to see a person's career of public service have this as their cap stone. >> it is surprising. that would be a universal response. >> reporter: speaker john boehner in a statement said the denny i served with worked hard

on behalf of the constituents and country. i am shocked and saddened to learn of these reports. the next phase in this is the legal one as early as next week where hastert will either plead guilty or not guilty to the charges against him. erica. >> kevin tibbles, thank you. let's get to sheinelle for more on the confrontation outside an arizona mosque. >> good morning. an angry standoff outside an islamic community center in phoenix. 500 demonstrators came face-to-face on friday. >> shame on you for believing the religion of lies. shame on you. >> the confrontation comes weeks after a violent attack in texas at a contest to draw the prophet muhammad. the two gunmen killed in that attack once worshipped at the phoenix mosque. no reported injuries or arrests. the democratic field may get a bit more crowded today.

former maryland governor martin o'malley is expected to throw his hat in the ring. we have nbc's kristen welker can more. >> reporter: good morning, sheinelle. former governor martin o'malley is expected to announce he is running for president later in baltimore. now o'malley is running an uphill battle against the front runner hillary clinton. with low name recognition, he is in the single digits. the riots in baltimore could complicate his message with some critics blaming his tough on crime policies for the tension in the city. bernie sanders announced he is running earlier this month. the democratic field is getting crowded, but in the republican side, there are as many as 15. thank you. a case of road rage may have

cost the life of a petty officer. san diego police arrested a woman who they say rammed her car into the 39-year-old zachary beulb's motorcycle. and a jury found actor dustin diamond better known as screech from "saved by the bell." a man was stabbed in the bar fight last christmas. diamond pulled a pocket knife to protect his girlfriend. there is no date for sentencing but the most serious charge carries nine months in prison. the tampa bay lightning are headed to the finals. they shutout the rangers in game seven. they face either chicago or anaheim who square off on nbc at 8:00 eastern/5:00 pacific. a wedding day is something every bride remembers, but that

i'm grateful the case was resolved. as you may remember, this stems from the crash last year. morgan and his friends were driving back from a comedy show when a walmart truck rear-ended their vehicle and left one passenger dead and three others, including morgan, injured. the "30 rock" star spend more than a month in rehab. tina fey and alec baldwin paid a special tribute to him at the "snl" reunion show. we'll remember him for his characters on "snl." and we will find out how he is doing now when he sits down with matt. we are certainly pulling for him. >> sheinelle, thanks. we are pulling for him and families involved. >> it's hard to believe that it has been almost a year. still to come this morning on "today," a court appearance for the woman accused of killing her fiance during a kayak trip.

6:27 on this saturday morning. a live look at at&t park ahead of the giants game this afternoon. good morning. i'm kira klapper. anthony slaughter has a look at our microclimate forecast. what will the weather be like today? >> it's going to warm up this afternoon. kind of like what we have this morning is what it will look like this evening for the game. this is the golden gate bridge. little drizzle from the north bay bay. that is a little bit of an appetizer. a big storm system will bring some rain to the bay area tomorrow. we'll talk about that at 7:00. meantime today will be a dry day and lots and lots of sunshine through the afternoon hours. 78 for the south bay, 75 for the peninsula. east bay at 73.

the tri-valley inland spots will be 80 degrees. the only wild card today is it will stay cool at the coastline. bring a jacket if you're heading to san francisco. >> not very warm as we head into june. >> june bloom. >> anthony, thanks. >> yeah. scary scene last night in downtown san jose where a man was pinned down by a car. cell phone video of the accident near 1st and santa clara streets. the driver apparently lost control, drove off the road and trapped a man between the car and shopping cart. the driver was cooperative. it's not clear if he will face charges. 12-hour police standoff ended peacefully. a man who barricaded himself inside his home with his toddler surrendered about 10:00 last night. police first surrounded the home yesterday morning and put the entire neighborhood on lockdown.

david. and a young couple about to get married and turns to murder. we have nbc's ron mott with the story. >> reporter: wearing an orange jump suit 35-year-old anjelica pleaded not guilty in the death of her fiancee whose body was discovered in the hudson river after the kayaking trip. grasswald talked about the incident. >> he was trying to figure out how to paddle the waves. they were getting crazy. >> reporter: prosecutors say she admitted to removing a drain plug before the trip and moved his paddle away from him as he capsized. the motive? money from a pair of life insurance policyies. >> they argue reasonable doubt. i don't think this is a clear win for either side.

>> reporter: broadcasting live from a shark cage. >> i think you can tell from the size of my eyes that i'm certainly aware that there are lots of sharks here. >> reporter: our goal to find a great white. maybe the famous kathryn. she and mary lee tagged by researchers. now she has a following of 20,000. and a rare dock sighting. a six-foot bull shark. we got off to the spot off jupiter, florida where two great whites were spotted weeks ago. >> kathryn is supposed to be here. i think she stood us up. >> reporter: we encountered 20 bull sharks. following great whites the ocean's predators, bull and hammerheads are the most aggressive. >> 20 bull sharks and one great white. >> reporter: the most dangerous
