"early today" starts right now. good morning, happy monday to everybody. there is drama in legislature after lawmakers let two parts of the patriot act expire sunday night. now the national security agency will have to pull the plug on certain government surveillance programs that were put in place after 9/11.

passed. >> okay. tracey tracey pott live in washington. secretary of state john kerry is expected to arrive in boston today for medical treatment. he wok his leg while bicycling in france. it happened while he was biking in the swiss alps near the swiss border. his tire hit a curb. the 71-year-old never lost consciousness. he was airlifted to geneva. secretary kerry was in switzerland for meetings with iranian diplomats about limiting the nuclear program. he was scheduled to be in paris tomorrow to meet with coalition members battling isis. his office says he will now take part in that meeting remotely. there has been an outpouring of sympathy following the death of beau biden. the 46-year-old died saturday after battling brain cancer biden elected twice and was a front-runner for delaware governor in 2016. he was a popular politician and decorated iraq combat veteran. there's been a bipartisan

outpouring of grief. >> beau biden was known to many as a dedicated public servant. the loving father of two and a devoted partner to the woman he loved. >> delaware is a better place because of beau, the country is a better place because of beau. >> the president and mrs. obama visited the home of joe biden yesterday. the president issued an emotional statement calling beau a good, big-hearted devoutly catholic and deeply faithful man. who made a difference in the lives of all he touched and he lives on in their hearts. biden was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013. he underwent successful surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. beau biden died surrounded by his entire family. including his father, his wife haley, and two children natalie and hunter. this morning, we have good news in soaked texas. it will be driving out.

welcome back, everybody. there is more bad news for former house speaker dennis hastert. wheaton college in illinois takes his name off the research center. hastert has also resigned from the school's board of advisers. he graduated from the school in 1964. hastert was just indicted, as you may recall, on charges that hell allegedly lied to the fbi about alleged his money tied to a past misconduct. he reportedly agreed to pay $3.5 million to a man who went to a school where hastert once taught. in new york city, a high-rise here, a cable on a crane lifting an unit snapped. ten people were hurt. nothing serious, though, no word on why that cable snapped. in nebraska, a reptile
