with us. i am kris sanchez. first, a sip of coffee and your foreca forecast. >> good morning. we are seeing mostly clear skies across a lot of the bay after such a warm weekend. we've enjoyed some awesome weather. we may see a couple of showers in the forecast today. also great news right now in the east bay. it's 59 degrees. peninsula, 56 degrees. san francisco at 59 degrees. looking at the highs today, reaching 76 degrees in the east bay and the peninsula reaching 70 degrees. later today, we are expecting some breezy winds overall. we will have the low clouds and the mist once again to start out the day. more sunshine as we do into the rest of the afternoon. i'll have another look at the microclimate forecast. now, let's get a look at traffic

with mike. >> you're talking about the roads getting wet in spots. let's look at the bridge, where there is no need for son kern at the san mateo bridge. we'll look at your maps and we have a smooth drive on 92 and 84. the san mateo. we'll look at the upper east bay and also in the middle of your screen out of the pass. the westbound free ways move freely. let's check the south bay coming up. >> thank you, mike. new this morning, the state department is working to free several americans detained in yemen right now. this comes after the "washington post" reported this weekend that at least four u.s. citizens were taken prisoner. they are reportedly being held captive by the houdi group. few details are being revealed about the prisoners. what's in a name? for some, a lot, especially when it comes to your facebook page.

>> facebook is sparking outrage over a plan to shut down pages that don't show a person's legal name. >> today in the bay, live at headquarters, bob is where a protest is planned. >> several hundred people expected here, sam and kris. they're expected to caravan from san francisco to outside the social media giant's headquarters here. they're going to protest facebook's policy requiring people to register their legal name when setting up an online account. this has been a problem for drag queens, who go by stage names, along with native americans and victims of domestic violence who choose to remain anonymous. facebook says that's the point of requiring people to submit their legal names. it makes users more accountable and makes it more difficult for them to harass, commit fraud or post hate speech. this has been debating between

protesters and facebook for months. facebook apologized for closing the accounts of those who used pseudonyms. the company now allows people to use a fake name as long as they use a picture id or birth certificate to verify their true identity. this seemed to satisfy some of the protesters but not all. again, the people expected to protest this morning says this rule still makes them a target of discrimination and bullying. protests scheduled for later this morning outside facebook headquarters around 11:00. reporting live, bob for today in the bay. two years after a san jose teacher was convicted of molesting students, his school goes on trial. the families of four of the victims filed suit against the school district. top administrators ignored clear warning signs and explicit

reports of sexual abuse by teacher chandler. he is serving 75 years to life for molesting five girls at the elementary school between 2010 and 2012. going for a refill. attacks on soda in san francisco failed but today, city leaders are trying something new to cut down on the cravings. a board of supervisors are taking up proposals. the most radical is slapping a warning label on all advertising for soda and other sugar-sweetened drinks. they'd say it contributes to tooth delay, diabetes and obesity. at 4:35, the search for two dangerous suspects in the south bay is over. the san jose arrepolice arreste man and woman who tried to hit police officers with their car. they searched last night to find the pair. the two are accused of trying to strike a police officer and ramming a patrol car. police set up a perimeter and

told residents to stay inside. the two were eventually found and arrested. no officers were hurt. a 9-year-old girl is in critical condition after a car plowed into her at los angeles international airport. police say the girl was walking near a departure terminal last night when the car slammed into her and came to rest partially inside the airport. the driver and a passenger were also hurt, though not seriously. police think that the 67-year-old driver probably mistook the gas pedal for the brake. no word on whether the driver will face charges. don't be surprise first-degrif you see smoke east of san jose. there is burning at joseph grant county park off of mount hamilton road. there will be training burns on monday and friday as well. >> they can only do that training burn if the weather conditions allow.

they must. our meteorologist is here with our forecast. >> good morning, kris. we're looking at temperatures in the 50s. 59 degrees in san francisco. those temperatures will continue to go up through the day. 76 degrees in the east bay peninsula. now today's high reaching 70 degrees. breezy this afternoon. we'll see how that affects the training burn today. in the last three hours, we've had clouds over there this morning and as we go through the day, a few more clouds will be moving in. maybe even a few showers for the north bay especially. we can see the spotty rain farther to the north. we'll see if this can make it into parts of the bay area. i think most of that rain will be for san francisco and farther to the north. at 8:00, i do see the rain of spotty, light rain offshore. then it starts to roll into some parts of the north bay.

maybe even a sprinkle or two for napa and points to the north. by 5:00, it all clears out. during the evening commute, we'll see some more sunshine. but the wind is starting to pick up, too. speaking of wind, hurricane andres is now in the pacific, and it has strengthened. look at it. category four hurricane. the first one of the season. it's a pretty strong one. it will be weakening quickly. by thursday, it will be just an area of low pressure that may be just enough to bring some rain to southern california. maybe even the bay area. in time for the weekend. the microclimate forecast, los gatos reaching 73 degrees and dry. low temperature of 56 degrees. the marina, a sprinkle or two, reaching 59 degrees. still cool there but how about 68 degrees for santa rosa?

the east bay reaching 70 degrees. there will be a few spots that get warm, like livermore, topping out at 77 degrees. the forecast looking ahead to the weekend. it's only monday, but the weekend is looking pretty good. especially with a chance of a few showers moving into the pay area. i'll talk more about that. right now, let's send it over to mike. >> you know, it is monday but we always look forward to the weekend. we'll look over here. look forward to the morning commute. there is the bridge toll plaza. you have the folks there, and the cash lanes are waiting. there are a couple lanes not open. the rest of the bridge, an easy drive. look at the same span, a glowy look. all the moisture in the air. north of the san mateo bridge, some sprinkles. no problems as far as anywhere south of the san mateo bridge. we have your typical bits of

slowing west of 580 and over the santa cruz mountains. clear drive for 17. hundreds of cyclists are waking up in santa cruz this morning and heading down the california coast for the aids life cycle. yesterday, the group made the 82-mile trek from san francisco to santa cruz, the first leg of the seven-day journey to los angeles. all of this in an effect to raise awareness of hiv and aids. >> 1997 ride, so i thought i'm not a cyclist, but i figured, i'm going to do this ride. i never know what to do. this is something i can do now for him. >> the cyclists raised more than $60 million so far this year. a majority going to the san francisco aids foundation. >> a lot of folks have done it and say it's a great experience. maybe not every year. >> don't have to be a cyclist to raise awareness. >> no, you don't. up next, your privacy is on

the national oceanianic and atmospheric administration expects it to be a below normal season, but people should be prepared. hurricane season runs through the end of november. it is nearly summertime, which means people are getting ready to head out for a dip to cool off. now there is a program aimed at keeping kids safe at the pool. it teaches children to save themselves. children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years old. coaches say teaching children what to do in the water is one safety step. another is watching them like a hawk. >> just because the children are skilled and can save themselves, no one is ever drown proof. that's why supervisor is critical. >> it's also recommended to have proper locks, alarms and gates in place to keep your kids safe this summer. and plenty of floaties on hand. only thing to watch out for,

bugs. a survey by the bug spray company found a lot of people have strong reactions to bugs. 40% of people in the survey feel like they have to squish a bug several times. kris can't watch right now. to make sure the bug is dead. 51% say someone in their home is a designated bug handler. i'm guessing it's not you. get this, the survey also found 82% of americans would rather sit in a chair covered in ants than eat a live cockroach. >> stop the video already. can we look at sam instead? >> not killing the bugs in your house. >> i'll kill them. i don't want them on the giant screen. i wish we had little tvs today. maybe a little wet weather to start out the day. >> that was -- no. not what you want to see early on a monday morning. as we go into the rest of the

day, something you do want to see. sunshine. it will arrive. after some clouds this morning, especially in san francisco and the north bay. getting a little bit of a view of the moon this morning in the south bay. mostly clear skies in spots. 55 degrees. today's forecast bringing it up to 76 in the east bay. the peninsula, 70 degrees. not bad there. we could have a couple of spotty showers for san francisco and the north bay. the winds will pick up, too, as we go into the afternoon. still cloudy. by 5:00, 6:00 this evening, the winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour. more of that on shore flow to bring in the low clouds. very drizzly conditions to start out the day. the last three hours, we've seen just a few thin clouds. here's the forecast as we go through the rest of the day. if you're in the north bay, grab the umbrella just in case.

maybe a light jacket with a hood in case you get caught in a shower quickly passing by. not really expecting much rain out of this. always a little bit of rain is welcomed news here. most of that will be for the north bay. i think all of that clearing out by the evening commute. with the sunshine breaking out all across the bay area. we have a glimmer of hope in the forecast, especially for the weekend. some rain moving through. especially with the remnants of hurricane andres, moving into the southern california area. that could be enough to sling some moisture up to the bay area, too. we'll be watching for that. in the meantime, it's mostly dry. the peninsula reaching 63 degrees. los gatos, 73. san francisco, 59 degrees. some of the warmer spots like the trivalley, 72 degrees. fremont, 70 degrees. chance of showers for santa rosa

with the highs of 68 degrees. forecast for the weekend, a slight chance of rain. otherwise, we'll have highs in the mid 70s. for the south bay, 76 degrees. on sunday, the peninsula, 72 degrees. still kind of chilly for san francisco and the east bay. the trivalley warming up to 80 degrees once again. kind of the same weather we just had over the weekend. once again, we'll be watching out for a few showers possible. some great news as we start out the work week. sam and kris? >> sounds good. 4:51 right now. this next story might have you checking your abs. the record for the longest plank was broken over the week end bya former u.s. marine. the 57-year-old george hood spent an amazing 5 hours 15 minutes planking. he blew away the previous guinness world record of 4 hours and 26 minutes. he didn't do it for the title. he used the event to raise money

emma? emma? >> the earthquake disaster movie "san andreas" went to the top of the box officer this weekend. the blockbuster brought in more than $53 million, and it smashed fears that people in earthquake-prone california might shy away from the movie. it actually overperformed on the west coast. staying in the fictional world, moving out of it now. a man convicted of stalking mila kunis escaped from a secure mental health facility. the 30-year-old left the facility saturday night. he had been there since his 2013 felony stalking conviction. he was accused of breaking into kunis' vacant condo in west hollywood and stayed there two

weeks. he showed up at her jigym, forcg her to hide until authorities arrived. we want to look at the traffic situation. mike is here, rested from the weekend. >> back from the weekend. yeah, we're rested. we look over here toward oakland. the weekends are never long enough. 880, this is fine, as far as the duration you'll be on the freeway. that's the minimum you need. moisture in the air. talking about a chance of rain in the parts of the bay. no slowing through oakland. we have a crash in city streets in the piedmont area. to the south, we have a crash east 580. it moved off to the shoulder. the north has a single motorcycle that went off the roadway. no major injuries. we'll track that. the live look out there shows the traffic flows light through the area. that's why we don't see any slowing. it's why we don't see a problem for either of the crashes. >> looking good.
