you guys did work very hard to get to this point. watching the race yesterday, probably felt like the longest two minutes and 26 seconds of your life. at what point did you let yourself realize this was going to happen? >> earlier in the race probably in the first turn i already know that american pharoah, he was gonna do it. but it was a little bit early for me to start celebrating down the stretch, you know i'm not gonna celebrate until i pass and cross that wire. and i know this because many times, when you know, horses have been so close and this time i said you know what i'm gonna celebrate two jumps after the wire. >> and you're still celebrating this morning. bob, what about for you this is your fourth run at a triple crown. boy, did it turn out well? how are you feeling this morning? was there a moment where you finally said i can breathe a sigh of relief now? >> well it's been hard to digest. i still can't believe. still a little numb from seeing

it happen. but i couldn't be prouder for this big guy right here next to me. he just is an incredible animal and so beautiful and kind and he deserved it's great horse. and what a ride it's been. and to win all three races and to see that i didn't think it was ever gonna happen. i was starting to doubt every -- all the good horse events there, having my family there with me it just -- an incredible experience. quite a moment watching him come through it. i know we heard the breeding rights have already been bided off at this point, rehema said. real quickly, bob, do you think the horse gets it? i don't mean that as a flippant question do you think american pharoah understood everything happening around him was for him? >> oh he -- he knows he is good. he really knows. he is a big ham. and he -- he is -- he enjoys the cameras, as you can see. >> he does. >> and so -- he is a really kind

pretty cool stuff there. turn to the ongoing search in and around northern new york for two convicted killers who broke out of a maximum security prison in a very elaborate scheme on saturday, like the scene out of movies men using power tools to cut through steel walls and escape through underground tunnels. nbc's john yang is outside the prison. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, carson. moments ago, we saw dozens of searchers heading into the woods that surround this village. this is more than 24 hours after these two convicted killers escaped from this prison. part of their plan they stuffed clothing into their beds to disguise the fact that they were missing. levee armed police and state troopers used dogs on the ground and helicopters in the air to search for the two convicted murderers. >> this is an ongoing investigation. although i can assure that you no stone will be left unturned. >> reporter: 48-year-old richard matt was serving a sentence of 25 years to life for kidnapping and robbery after he beat a man to death in 1997.

34-year-old david sweat sentenced to life without parole for killing a sheriff's deputy in 2002. >> it was elaborate. it was sophisticated. it encon pass-- ecompassed drilling through steel pipes and walls. >> reporter: prison officials realized they were missing during a routine check saturday morning. governor cuomo taking a firsthand look at how authorities believe they'd scaped using power tools to cult through the wall of their cell before accessing tunnels, ultimately exiting through a manhole in a residential area several blocks away. >> when something like this happens, puts you on high alert. like out of a movie surreal. >> reporter: thought to be the first escape from the maximum security portion of the prison in 150 years. as the manhunt continues, so does the search for how the inmates acquired the tools and the technical knowledge for the escape.

scattered storms but in this area in orange including chicago, and including indianapolis that's where we could see our best chance of damaging wind gusts. that's our biggest threat today but also some larger hail and isolated tornado can't be ruled out a lot of the storms in indianapolis will hit overnight. also want to point out hurricane blanca, a category two storm now, with 105-mile-an-hour winds. it is expected to pass right along the west coast of the baja peninsula here but should be more of a tropical storm it is continuing that weakening phase but we could see as much as six to ten inches of rain in in
