saturday. >> we were talking to someone this morning that said they were on a wedding, ceremony started at 6:00, everyone ran to the tv. >> and the bride was probably right in line. >> exactly. much more coming up. let's get to the top story this morning, and that is the desperate search to find and capture two inmates involved in a brazen prison break right here in new york state. nbc national correspondent has the latest on the escape and now the man hunt, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. to give you scope on the manhunt, authorities are now searching canada, all across the u.s. and into mexico. this prison break taken right out of a hollywood script. the inmates taunting police. after 150 new leads, authorities admit, they're not closer to watching these -- catching these deadly criminals. overnight and into the morning, the desperate, around the manhunt for two killers. >> we're leave nothing stone unturned. they could be literally anywhere.

>> reporter: 250 heavily armed officers with k-9s searching cemeteries and schools for these two convicts. sweat was serving life after shooting a sheriff's deputy 22 times. matt serving 25 years to life for kidnapping, beating, killing, and dismembering his boss. they were discovered missing early saturday morning. breaking out of prison with power tools. >> we did not recover sophisticated cutting tools. we are still looking for those tools. >> reporter: the escape from this maximum security facility in upstate new york, 25 mimes from canada -- miles from canada retraced by andrew cuomo who called it elaborate and sophisticated. he says the prisoners in side-by-side cells stuffed the bunks with let's do avoid detection. they cut holes through the steel wall behind their beds. crawled on to this catwalk six

stories up, broke through a brick wall two feet thick, cutting holes into and out of a 24-inch steam pipe. shimmying beneath the prison wall and breaking out of a manhole more than a block away. they left behind a post-it note with a racist image, reading, have a nice day. >> when you look at how it was done, it was extraordinary. >> reporter: with the governor saying the inmates must have been heard, the tiny town is now a fortress. >> several communities little upside down right now. >> reporter: this morning, the hunt for two desperate man who have -- men who have killed before and could do it again. this large rural area is dotted with farmland and forest. authorities conducted a grid search, so far, turned up nothing. investigators say they could have gotten help from inside the prison as well as outside. one of the inmates, richard matt has successfully escaped from prison in '86, governor calls this situation a crisis. savannah.

>> miguel, thank you so much. and let's turn to governor andrew cuomo, toured that escape route, and he's announced a $100,000 reward in this case. governor, good morning to you. it has been nearly 50 hours ing, savannah. >> it has been merely 50 hours since this escape took place. these two inmates could literally be anywhere as we just heard. i know you have 150 leads you are working. are any in particular looking promising? how confident are you that these two will be found? >> well, savannah, the first order of business is exactly that for us -- to get these escapees back in custody. they are truly dangerous, desperate men. as your report said. they are killers. they are murders. we want to get them back as quickly as possible. as your report also said, they could be anywhere given this period of time. we're doing a very intensive search in the immediate area which is basically a rural area. if they had help from the outside, given this period of

time, they could be anywhere in the country. one of them has experience in mexico. they might even be headed south. >> let me ask you about this. when you look at the elaborateness of the escape and i know you personally saw it. you are talking about people who acquired power tools, knew how to get out, cut through steel pipes, walls, shimmied down the pipes, broke through a manhole. are they that ingenious? are they just lucky? or do you think they had help? >> i think they had help. i don't believe they could have acquired the equipment they needed to do this without help. we have a separate investigation that's going through exactly that question. >> help from the inside or the outside? >> employees in a prison -- well, we are looking at everything. primarily from the inside. you have three types of employees at a prison. you have the guards, civilian employees and private contractors who come in to do work. we are going through the civilian employees and the private contractors first.

i would be shocked if a corrections guard was involved in this. but they definitely had help. otherwise they couldn't have done this on their own. even from the equipment point of view. also it took a number of days to accomplish what they accomplished. this really could have been a movie script. if you saw it as a movie script it would have been unbelievable frankly, what they accomplished. so, yes, they were devious. they worked fast on what they did. first order of business is finding them, getting them back. they're dangerous. they're dangerous wherever they are in the country. that's why we're offering a reward of $100,000. we have a new tip line -- 1-800-give-tip. we'll get them back and do an investigation. we'll find out who gave them the assistance. because, i believe, savannah they were assisted probably from the inside. >> and they left a note for guards saying "have a nice day."

what does that tell you about their mindset? >> they have a little bit of the comedian in them. i plan on giving them back that note, savannah. >> new york governor andrew cuomo. thanks for keeping us posted on the investigation. >> in texas a police officer is on administrative leave after this video surfaced of a confrontation with teenage near a neighborhood pool. nbc's jacob rascon has the story. >> reporter: the video shows a mckinney, texas, police officer throwing down a 14-year-old girl in a bikini. then pulling his service weapon on two boys. three officers initially responded to a disturbance call at a party at a community pool. cameras didn't capture what led up to this fistfight or anything else before police arrived. but when they did -- >> [ bleep ].

any injuries. violence overnight after crowds of people tried to get into sold-out shows without tickets. police wearing riot gear worked to control the chaos outside metlife stadium in new jersey during the hot 97 summer jam concert. police say the the crowds began climbing over fences and forcing through security personnel. some threw bottles at police. made several arrests. in germany, the g7 summit started and will end with a focus on preventing russia from interfering with ukraine sovereignty. russia was kicked out last year for supporting rebels trying to overthrow ukraine's government. the president is trying to convince leaders not to waiver on sanctions against russia. the two-day summit is focussing on terrorism, increasing trade, and climate change. oscar pistorius could be released from prison in august. prison officials recommended he then be placed under house arrest.

by that time, pistorius will have served ten months of his five-year sentence for the shooting death of reeva steenkamp. it was made on the basis of good behavior in prison. official decision is pending. this morning, a young boy is recovering from a terrifying shark attack off a florida beach not far from the kennedy space center. kerry sanders has the story. >> reporter: the ten-year-old boy was barely in waist deep water according to witnesses in a popular spot off cocoa beach when the shark attacked. tearing his leg. >> got bit twice. the shark bit release, bit, released. realized he was not fish. life guards ran into the water and pulled him to safety. >> trauma alert from a shark bite. >> reporter: because of the severity, the young boy was air lifted to a hospital in orlando. witnesses say he was attacked by what they believe was a bull shark, similar to the 20 we encountered a week ago when we took our live cameras out in

it's monday good monday morning, i'm sam brock. a developing story in the south bay right now. firefighters have knocked down a house fire that started within the last hour. this happening on el paseo drive. firefighters say the flames burned into the attic of a house but there are no rps ro of injuries and no word on a cause. the fire did not spread to nearby homes. an early morning fire in san francisco heavily damaged a union street jewelry store and briefly threatened a popular sports bar. it started before 3:00 in the morning inside of the union street goldsmith in cal hollow that building next door to the iconic bus stop saloon which has been around for a century. the jewelry store suffered extensive damage but firefighters did save the saloon.

you were a little boy. has it sunk in that now you are in the history books? >> secretariat raised the bar. i don't know if there will ever be another secretariat, the way he won. to get to this point he finally established himself like a horse like seattle slew one of the best racehorses ever. he's such a sweet kind horse . is that horse actually in my barn? coming up to the races i didn't want to talk about him too much. as a trainer you are still superstitious. i don't want to jinx him. my wife jill always asks how he looks. he looks great. we don't know how the race wills affect him. when he went into the paddock i felt good about him. the key is every time victor rode him in the prep races he would never let him run full out. he'd win in a gallop and saved energy for us. the derby was probably the hardest race for him. he didn't bring his a game that

we all have those times in our lives where we can feel sad. the feelings can last a few hours, a few days and sometimes a few weeks. >> but how do you know when you're experiencing the normal ups and downs of life versus a long term depression. >> here to answer that is psychotherapist m. gary newman. how are you doing? >> good to be back. >> it's a fine line between feeling crummy and being depressed. we were talking about the numbers of people who are misdiagnosed. >> absolutely. n a recent survey of over 5,000 people, 60% of the people were misdiagnosed and 75% of them

were given medication. >> that they didn't need? >> that they didn't necessarily lead need. if you need medication and you're on an antidepressants under a doctor's care and it's working stay on it and work with your doctor. but before you, the consumer runs to the doctor to get medication, you have to consider that not every doctor who tells you you have a prescription means you have the medical criteria for depression. >> and what are those? >> how do you know? >> those become more of that functional problem. it's the kind of blue that last a couple of weeks where you're hopeless, you're not having any type of joy there's suicidal thoughts. it's a very deep sense -- and it's got to last a couple weeks because all of us can be down for a day or two. >> especially also if you're grieving or -- >> something happens in your life. it could take months to get through things. so situational sadness is there as well. i think for sure during the depression you have to get some kind of help. but what we have to remember is

a lot of times people have such pressure to be happy, happy, happy 24/7 that sometimes they run to the doctor just because they're not happy enough. and that's what we have to reconsider. >> i think the weird thing about when you get on medicine because when you need it when dough do you know it's other? because you're taking something that makes you feel better. >> and you get nervous about getting off of it. >> so what do you do? >> you have to do it under the care of a doctor, that's for sure. many doctors will keep somebody on antidepressants for nine months to a year before even considering lowering the dose and seeing how the person works at that point. but there are things you can do for your sadness whether you're on antidepressants or not. >> okay. >> that's what's important. >> these are the blues we're talking about? >> for the blues but these are proven to help you even if you're on antidepressants. people think you take a happy pill and that's it. antidepressants work much better when you're getting the rest of your life in order. >> because the blues can lead to
