if that's ruled out, what caused the crash? and fifty shades of missing? a copy of the new fifty shades of gray book reportedly stolen days before the release. the publisher claiming a police investigation under way. is it a crime or publicity stunt wednesday, june 10th, 2015. . >> and good morning, welcome to "today" on a wednesday morning. still a very tense time in upstate new york. someone called in a possible sighting in willsboro and teams descended on that area. >> there's a striking picture. these are folks looking very, very closely for these two individuals.

there's a sniper dressed in a camouflage -- >> gilly suit, i guess. they are looking for them but still have not found these two escaped inmates considered very dangerous. we want to get right to nbc national correspondent miguel almaguer. what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning, this manhunt knows no boundaries, this royal peaceful farm and forest land the background to a search two hours ago and this isn't the only place they are looking. on the run five days now, investigators are on the trail of murderers david sweat and richard matt following leads not just here but also here. 51-year-old joyce mitchell, a supervisor in the prison tailor shop who worked with sweat and matt has been identified as a person of interest. on the day the inmates were reported missing -- >> be on the lookout for two escape ees. >> reporter: mitchell checked herself into this hospital,

7:05 am
you can assure there was a good reason for it and more into it than a relationship with an inmate. >> reporter: do you think it's possible she was taken advantage of? >> they both are convicted murderers. i mean, you have an inmate in prison for life, they don't have anything to lose. when you're put in a situation where a family member is threatened or other family members might be threatened or at risk, you do a lot of things you wouldn't think to protect your family. >> reporter: do you worry there may have been some kind of threat? >> i'm constantly worried about what might be going on. >> reporter: toby last spoke to his mother saturday night, the day of the escape. his mother called him from an emergency room where he says she was treated for a panic attack. >> a lot of people are looking at that, make she had a panic attack because she was supposed to help them and get in the car and didn't, a lot of speculation. >> no, i mean, my mom worries a lot about everything. i mean, especially with me. >> reporter: has she been to the hospital before with panic attacks?

7:07 am
this new strategy comes after iraqi forces have suffered a number of defeats in recent weeks, including the fall of ramadi, a key city. while meeting with world leaders in germany earlier this week, president obama signal that he was considering a range of options to help train and equip iraqi forces. the administration will likely announce its final decision in the coming days. >> we want to ask you about another story in the headlines this morning. nbc confirmed there are new secret service agents working there behind you at the white house compound who don't yet have their national security clearances. what is this all about? >> reporter: well, savannah, according to a secret service official, director joseph clancy became aware of that situation last week, as many as four to five dozen agents have been posted in sensitive positions but not yet completed the entire national security clearance process. the problem is the result of an administerrative backlog, due to

increase in hiring due to security breaches, including when the fence jumper made it in the white house. brian leery told me, the director has taken immediate steps to accelerate the top secret adjudication process and allocated additional resources to ensure this is completed as quickly as possible. he also noted most of the new hires had completed the bulk of the clearance process, including background checks and polygraph tests. the agency says the problem should be fixed by the end of this week. >> kristen welker, thank you. nearly a month after that deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia, the ntsb is announcing new findings in the investigation today. willie is here with the latest on that. good morning. >> good morning, matt, that train was going 106 miles an hour moments before it entered a curve with a 50-mile-per-hour speed limits. one question that had gone
7:09 am
unanswered, was the engineer, 32 brandon bostian using his phone at the time? according to that ntsb report released within the last hour, the answer is no. an analysis of bostian's phone records showed no calls or texts or data usage while operating the train. he also did not access the train's wi-fi system. that backs up what bostian who suffered a concussion in the accident and his lawyer have told investigators, that his phone was in his bag during the trip in compliance with federal rules and only time he used it was to call 911 and that was after the crash. savannah? >> all right, willie, thank you so much. meantime, former house speaker dennis hastert is out on bail after pleading not guilty in charges of the hush money scandal. gabe gutierrez was at the courthouse for that hearing. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. hastert taught high school in this community for 16 years but now he faces the legal fight of his life. it was a wild scene as he made his first public appearance in
