♪ if you haven't heard yet the wailing guitars of metallica, here they are playing before a giants game now rock and roll for the warriors. they announced the lead singer lead guitarist will perform the national anthem ahead of game five. to stay on top of all things warriors, download our nbc bay area app. we are constantly updating coverage there as well as on facebook, twitter and instagram. changing gears, a desperate search is over in the south bay. an 18 month old toddler taken from his home is safe this morning. the search started in sunnyvale around 4:00 and ended late last night on ash street in newark. the 18 month old was taken from his grandmother by his mother. she does not have custody of the child and apparently she didn't know he needed potentially life-saving medicine twice a day. six hours after he went missing,

police tracked down the boy's mother in a red cadillac in newark and arrested her. the child was not hurt but was taken to the hospital as precaution. it is unclear at this point why his mother the 20-year-old, christina rodriguez, took the boy. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire in the east bay that kept firefighters busy all day. the fire started in vallejo, not far from redwood parkway and i-80. firefighters had to call for backup several times as dry and windy conditions kept the fire going for 11 hours. embers blew onto roofs of nearby homes. neighbors say as soon as they knew something was wrong, they rushed to help each other out. >> the neighbors were so nice that they went from house to house and knocked at each door and made sure that everybody is out. >> firefighters left after they thought they knocked the fire

down, only to find it smoldering again hours later. it burned five acres, but fortunately no one was hurt. we are learning details about an accident involving a popular ride at great america theme park. they have two investigators looking into exactly what happened. this was the scene after the accident friday night. you can see investigators already at the flight deck ride with flashlights. officials with the park say a worker was hit by an oncoming train. witnesses tell us the worker was trying to retrieve an item for a guest he was rushed to a hospital with traumatic injuries. the worker is in critical condition at valley medical center. witnesses that saw the accident say the man was bleeding and not moving. great america says safety is at the heart of everything we do and remains our highest priority. the ride has been closed since the incident. no word on when it will reopen.

a guest also suffered a hand injury and was treated and released. this is not the first time there's been a serious incident at great america. in 2007 a four-year-old boy drowned in the wave pool at the boomerang bay great barrier reef. in 1999 a 12-year-old fell to his death on drop tower, slipped out of the ride restraint. in 1998 a man was killed when he went in a locked gate area to get his hat under the flight deck roller coaster, a passenger's foot hit him. to a developing story out of dallas. police headquarters remains a crime scene riddled with bullets and evidence of yesterday's deadly standoff. early saturday morning, a man driving an armor van opened fire on the building with an automatic weapon. he led officers on a 12 mile chase before pulling into a restaurant parking lot. he was shot and killed by a sniper during a second standoff

with police there. at police headquarters they found four suspicious bags one carrying pipe bombs that exploded as searched by a robot. the suspect was identified at james boulware. apparently he went into an emotional spiral and blamed police when he lost custody of his child. >> every one of us has a breaking point. some point is different than another. we all have one. >> no officers were hurt. just one day after that attack a dallas police officer said he had to use his weapon again. shortly before 1:00 this morning, officers responded to a call of a suspect with a gun running in a neighborhood. officers tracked him down but say the man pointed a gun at them, so one of the officers opened fire. at this point we have not been told the suspect's condition. tomorrow we will hear from

be cooler today and nicer out there. people in georgia are being warned to stay inside this morning after dangerous animals escaped from the zoo amidst heavy flooding. among those, tigers lions, bears, wolves and hippo. the escaped hippo was cornered. the zookeeper tranquilized him with a dart gun. so far 12 people died. authorities aren't specifying whether the deaths were caused by flooding or if animal attacks were involved. google may be extending its reach to cuba. a company executive is in the country this weekend checking out the island. a cuban government official says google has a proposal to improve the nation's internet access. right now, only about 5% of the country can get online and cell phone service where available is

take a live look outside...... san jose (adlib) ==vicky/cu== n jose wants time is 7:15. a live look outside at san jose. looking a little hazy. things will be warming up not quite as hot as they have been this weekend. san jose wants more women on the police force. this weekend more than 100 people answered the call. they showed up to a seminar put on by the san jose police department meant to introduce women to life as a police officer. the women got a chance to do a mock interview and to go through some of the physical fitness tests that all officers have to pass. they say these events are the best way to find qualified female candidates. >> there's not a lot known from the inside-out you know what is it like to work at the police department and what does it take to apply and be successful as a police officer in the city of

not as hot, more tolerable and comfortable. back into the low 80s for the south bay. peninsula, 70s, san francisco, mid-60s, north bay up to 81 degrees. tri-valley today, 86 degrees. still warm but not intolerable. talk about the forecast for the giants game. yesterday, the diamondbacks are in town today taking on the next game. the thing that's different today from yesterday's forecast it will be breezy today at the coastline. that may help get home runs out to left field. let's talk about the beach forecast. if you want to escape the heat in the tri-valley this is where you want to go to get away from the heat. 64 in pacifica. winds gusting, up to 20 miles per hour in half moon bay, and expecting 66 degrees in half moon bathe afternoon. santa cruz mid 70s yesterday, no 70s today, back into the 60s. more comfortable. but again, it is the bay area.

we are always headed to the beach, even if it is in the 60s. the next couple days temperatures cool off at least tomorrow then shoot up into the 90s. we have an area of high pressure and that's driving in heat strong on shore wind. that's expected to return tomorrow. we expect more fog and cloud cover tomorrow and cooler temperatures. 80s and 90s inland back to the 70s and 80s next couple days. then the coastline seeing temperatures in the 60s and warm into the 70s tuesday. it is a brief cool down. temperatures dip a little more then back into the 80s for san jose by tuesday. same for east bay valleys. cooling temperatures today and tomorrow, back to 90 by tuesday. san francisco expecting temperatures at least to warm up back to 70 by tuesday. today and tomorrow expecting temperatures to be comfortable

n sunday morning. 7:54 is the time. you can see from the san francisco cam, low clouds are hanging out. that's part of the weather headlines. we are tracking that fog at least for the next hour. it is a shallow marine layer. later this afternoon, we expect sunshine even at the coastline. temperatures today coming down 5 to 10 degrees from yesterday. tomorrow expecting more cloud cover to start the day and the marine layer hangs around a little tomorrow until 11:00 or noon. at least today we're seeing sunshine. it will warm up quickly in the south bay. we are clear. the peninsula, mix of sun and clouds in the east bay and san

francisco. later on toward lunchtime, temperatures jump into the mid 70s for the south bay. same for the north bay, east bay, san francisco in the 60s by lunchtime. by this afternoon, popping up to the 80s. same for the north bay, east bay up to 75. san francisco today not going to be overly warm still comfortable. 65 degrees. and tri-valley yesterday in the 90s. today in the 80s. still warm but not as hot as it has been. we have two areas of high pressure, one across the pacific. another across the four corners. both of those kept the storm door shut. winds are out of the north, start to shift around that area of high pressure in the northwest tomorrow. that's going to bring back a sea breeze. for tomorrow temperatures aren't as warm coming down more back in the 70s for most of us tri-valley in the 80s. the coastline is where you'll feel it. cloud cover stays put, temperatures only in the 60s tomorrow. as we mentioned earlier, the

tropics are active. tropical storm carlos now a hurricane winds up to 75 miles per hour. this will continue to make it toward puerto vallarta it is a slow mover. it will make landfall there as a category one hurricane or tropical storm, but looks like it will impact mexico and for us not bring up rain like blanca. we have another tropical system in gulf of mexico it is expected to move toward texas and gulf of mexico the next couple days bringing five to seven inches of rain to the midwest. at home dry the next couple days. inland valley cools a bit tomorrow. coastline temperatures stay nice and comfortable in san francisco. if you got work to do in the city this week not overly hot, not overly cold right in the middle talking room temperature in the low 70s right into the upper 60s. morning fog is the general trend, afternoon sunshine. unfortunately, vicky, we could use rain, not getting any.
