t the last minute on a saturday night before the first show he ever did. and it goes like this if it's sunday, it's "meet the press." it's monday, june 15th. coming up on "early today" two separate shark attacks less than two hours apart leaves two teens severely injured along the new -- north carolina shore. it's day ten in the desperate manhunt for the escaped murderers. >> we don't know if they are still in the immediate area or if they are in mexico by now. >> and who else may have helped in the escape. jeb bush officially enters the race for president today as hillary clinton criticizes president obama. plus, it truly is a "jurassic world." facing elimination lebron isn't worried saying he is the best player in the world and much, much more on this busy june monday.

"early today" starts right now. good morning i'm ayman mohyeldin. a witness calls it simply nightmarish. first responders trying to stop the bleeding caused by razor sharp teeth. on sunday, two separate and vicious shark attacks two miles apart along the north carolina coast. this morning, support helicopters will be the eyes in the sky monitoring these waters for any further activity. as for the two young victims, right now, they are alive, out of surgery, and upgraded from critical to fair condition. but both have lost a left arm. the town manager saying now the beaches will be open today but visitors are encouraged to stay out of the water. nbc's jay gray reports. >> reporter: choppers scan the carolina coast after two teenagers were attacked by sharks sunday afternoon. officials say a 14-year-old girl lost part of her left arm and could lose her left leg after she was attacked by a shark in the surf off oak island in north carolina. less than an hour later a 16-year-old boy was attacked by a shark, again, taking part of his left arm and both were rushed to area hospitals where their treatment continues.

>> both at this point are out of surgery and are in stable condition. >> reporter: the attacks happened at high tide near ocean crest pier, a popular destination at the beach. they come just three days after a 13-year-old was bit by a shark while riding a boogie board nearing ocean isle beach up the coast from sunday's attack. witnesses say the girl received minor injuries to her foot. swimmers were ordered out of the water in oak island. neither beach has been closed at this point. jay gray, nbc news. when they thought they were zeroing in, this morning, the authorities are expanding a search for the two convicted killers on the run for more than a week now. the manhunt is still focused on the woodlands of upstate new york but the escapees could be long gone by now, perhaps up in canada or even down in mexico. meanwhile, the prison worker accused of helping the deadly duo will appear in court this morning for a preliminary hearing. investigators say joyce mitchell worked with the prisoners for weeks, even sneaking them various tools in the maximum

about a woman being assaulted after what appears to be a brief argument here between the officer and the suspect. the man leaves the picture, only to return moments later, sprinting forward and waiving a flag pole. that is when the cop right there fires two shots. the suspect was not named by police, he died later at the hospital. at this point, the louisville police chief says the officer appeared justified in using deadly force. >> i think, you know, the officer felt like he was in danger of being killed or suffering serious physical injury. i don't know that, in looking at that, the officer had an opportunity to transition to a less lethal option. >> well, the officer in the video has been placed on administrative leave as the incident is investigated. former florida governor jeb bush is expected to launch his presidential campaign today and experts say he will focus on things he did as governor while playing down his family roots. his announcement is a day after hillary clinton had her first major rally for president in iowa. nbc's edward morris is live in washington. edward, we have two of the most famous names in politic hosting

supergovernor and was the education governor that people across the country looked to. he's a very strong contender in this, of course. >> reporter: meanwhile, democratic presidential hopeful hillary clinton reintroduced herself to voters in iowa. she hopes voters forget her third place finish in that state in 2008. >> i'm running for president to make our economy work for you and to every american. >> reporter: but monday will be jeb bush's day and he hopes it will be one republican voters remember at the polls. the bush campaign is branding itself with his first name jeb to distance himself from his brother's presidency. ayman? breaking news out of france this morning a large fire destroyed part of a basilica. in this video can see flames have engulfed the roof. the city is 200 miles outside of paris. the basilica itself dates back to the 1800s. social media users began sharing pictures of the flames shortly after the fire broke out.

tuesday afternoon in between houston and corpus christi likely as a tropical storm if possible. if anything the wind won't cause any problems. it will head north from there. our computers are estimating possibility anywhere from 4 to 5 inches of rain throughout the area. right along the path we'll easily get another 3 to 6 maybe more. high pressure over the southeast providing them with 100-degree temperatures over the next couple of days. it's also going to funnel the moisture up to the north and over the ridge to the ohio valley. our long range computers over the next seven days it is not just 4 to 8 inches here but possibly toward st. louis, illinois and indiana. there's a lot of major rivers in our country. the heat in the southwest no joke either. 111 today in phoenix.
