cvs and walmart. a man near suisun city jumped a curb and slammed into people at a bus stop. a homeless man said he was sitting down to eat when the car hit him and rolled over his foot. >> i turned my head and the car was right here. it didn't stop. it kept going. >> police say they are trying to determine if the driver has a medical condition or if drugs and alcohol were a factor in the crash. a big breakthrough in the hit-and-run case in san leandro. police seized this black toyota pickup truck seen leaving the scene of an accident thursday morning. several calls came in alerting officers that the truck was parked at a home in heyward. the suspect remains at large. police say whoever was driving the truck struck and killed the woman in the intersection of

hesperian boulevard and thornally drive. the victim 26-year-old madeline moore died at the hospital. new this morning, this is video of a private service that was held for families of those killed in a balcony collapse. it was held last night at st. columbia catholic church in oakland. as we've been reporting, six irish students died in berkeley on tuesday after the apartment balcony they stood on collapsed. the irish minister was in the bay area yesterday visiting survivors in the hospital. he says they seem optimistic despite their injuries. >> i am very encouraged they would survive. they were very upbeat themselves and superbly well motivated. >> the minister says the community support has helped the survivors cope with the tragic accident. we're told most of them are expected to make a full recovery. charges dropped, the courtroom drama is over for san francisco uber driver accused of

assault. two years ago a passenger accused whit mere of hitting him. said the passenger was belligerent so pulled over and asked him to get out of the car. they each called 911. police never made an arrest. prosecutors eventually filed battery charges against the driver after the passenger took his story to the media. the d.a. says there's not enough evidence to prosecute the driver. happy 100th birthday to san francisco city hall. to celebrate, hundreds of mayors, even barack obama were in town to see the party. they weren't the only ones. many protesters also showed up. they are taking the opportunity to say city leaders need to do a better job serving the people. >> number one or two economy in the world has people living in the streets and their cars. >> protesters say they hope

leaders will hear their message and address issues like police brutality and living wage. as we mentioned, president obama is in town. he arrived at sfo yesterday afternoon and then addressed the conference of mayors. from there mr. obama went to a small private fundraiser pacific heights. one of the investors who funded uber. he attended another fundraiser at the home of billionaire tom stayer. the president leaves for a father's day golf weekend in palm springs. now to the party on the other side of the bay. a postcard day in oakland under warrior blue skies. hundreds of thousands came out to cheer on the nba world champions. at times it was tough to tell who was having more fun the fans or the players, from steph curry to iggy showing off new hardware from bus, to grand cayman islands green high-fiving fans on the street. a massive crowd at the quince

former walden west employee padillo facing child molestation charges. they believe there may be more than two dozen victims. they gathered a task force which will review all hiring practices and safety standards. they are due to meet several times over the course of the next few months and determine what changes need to be made to. >> we're going to wait to implement things we find during this comparison between standards, best practices and what we currently do. so this will be an improvement work in process as we go along. >> about 20 people are on the task force. their first meeting june 30th happens to be padillo's first appearance. google removing search results, creating a process

where victims can request removal of intimate private photos. these photos are often posted by scorned ex-lovers. google says the so-called revenge poor is emotionally damaging and says it serves only to degrade victims. authorities are going after violators. in april a san diego man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for operating a revenge poor site and charging victims to remove photos. no more teenager smoking in hawaii. the legal smoking age raised to 21 years old. the governor has signed a new law. this is the first time an entire state is raising the legal smoking age. according to the campaign for tobacco-free kids 1400 hawaiians died from tobacco use or exposure every year. supporters say it will have a positive impact on health but critics say shouldn't be able to choose. the law goes into effect in 2016. much more ahead on "today in the bay." coming up pixar wants to get

been compressed and squished down from 1500 feet or so to below 1,000 feet. the immediate coastline, quite a bit of low clouds and drizzle and mist at times. in the location less of that sea breeze influence. we're starting off with sunshine inland patchy low clouds lingering along the coast. you will find mid-70s around santa cruz. what will be interesting, high clouds coming in as part of a weather system. it's going to put a dent in the ridge of high pressure which will lead to the temperatures starting to drop quite a bit tomorrow. the winds picking up again off the ocean. so highs for today near 85 degrees in san jose san francisco you have temperatures comfortably cooler in the mid-60s for the north bay. highs in the 80s around santa rosa napa oakland, 72 degrees. we have an early afternoon start to the a's game. should be pretty nice. temperatures in the 70s with the breeze picking up towards the end of the game. another check of the temperatures in the tri-valley shows you 90s in the forecast. out around alameda county fair

in pleasanton 90s to start the weekend. notice the temperatures dropping into sunday even around the tri-valley. the sea breeze will turn stronger for father's day weekend plan. summer solstice right around 9:38 tomorrow morning. temperatures for sunday are going to be running cooler. right now we have the strong ridge of high pressure bringing temperatures as hot as 116 degrees today out in palm springs. that's where the real heat is. the influence of that high still felt around bay area as we start off the weekend. so the valleys today looking at 80s and 90s. showed you heat index in the forecast. that system will trigger a stronger sea breeze that will begin to drop our temperatures in the locations, 70s and 80s come tomorrow. once that sea breeze picks up san francisco tomorrow morning probably looking at misty skies for father's day morning plans. as we go through the afternoon, cool day. we'll have sunshine inland just not quite as hot as temperatures we'll be seeing today. your three-day outlook as we finish off the weekend, sunday

he caught national attention after preventing a kidnapping in milpitas milpitas. last night a heroes welcome at the giants game. marianne favro has more from this special night. >> reporter: he's used to being in the driver's seat. after all, he's a bus driver. tonight he was the passenger, sitting in a helicopter as it landed on the field of a san jose giants game. >> as i was in the air, we hovered. wow, it really hit me. this is for me. i had a moment. >> he had another moment as a few thousand fans watched him throw out the first pitch. watson is in the spotlight for his quick thinking thinking that helped identify and rescue a kidnapped 3-year-old boy on his bus. on june 5th watson was one of several drivers who got an alert about a child abducted from the milpitas library. he quickly realized the boy and alleged kidnapper was on the bus. he calmly changed his route and

alerted authorities without tipping off the suspect, ultimately delivering the boy and suspect to the fremont b.a.r.t. station where authorities were waiting. >> i wasn't thinking just reacting. the biggest thing in my head i hope they are there waiting for me. >> they say watson deserved this tribute and more. >> i wouldn't want to picture myself in that spot and have my kid gone the driver realizing something was going wrong on the bus, what he did was definitely a really good thing. >> the day capped a day of recognition for the driver. he received congressional recognition as well as one from the county san jose and bta. there was one more thing. he's only been on the job six months as a probationary driver. that also changed. >> you have officially completed your test period and you're now a full-fledged member of the

partially reopening today two days after dozens of children were sickened by something in the water. we still don't know what made them sick at the pool. the health department testing the water but the cause of the illness not identified. three dozen children and adults complained of sore throats and coughing. the actual pool remained closed by the rest of the park remained open and ticket prices reduced to $12. president obama came to the bay area yesterday to deliver remarks at the u.s. conference of mayors annual meeting. the president also attended two democratic party fundraisers. he also addressed the mass shooting in charleston as he did a couple days ago at the white house. "today in the bay's" mark chris matthews has more. told a gathering of 300 mayors that 11,000 americans died from gun violence in 2013

to have the death penalty. this is the worst case i have seen and the country has seen in a long time. >> the suspected uncle told reporters he would push the button himself if he receive receives the death penalty. a rare find during probation search in santa rosa they came across two stolen antique rifles. now looking for the owner. the gang unit uncovered several finds. among the finds, two black powder rifles. they are considered to be very valuable. police arrested jennifer griffin and brandon roades for probation violation and other charges. it was an amazing day in oakland, hundreds of thousands of fans partying and celebrating warriors nba championship. the players were having a good time and so were the fans, of course. it was a rare opportunity to see the players away from the court. green jumped off the bus and

we're low cloud-free. high clouds moving over the valley. heat index, pleasanton 58 degrees. for the moment all the way bay area waking up in the 50s. this afternoon, probably about 30 degrees of separation with those afternoon highs as heat sets up inland. right now winds a little weak but they are on shore, which is helping to push in low clouds over downtown san francisco and also making for a drizzly start to the day out along the coastline. low clouds to start with some drizzle at times along the coast. heading into afternoon sunshine around santa cruz but hanging onto patchy coastal clouds. a few heat index like we're seeing now passing by as we head through the afternoon. also that sea breeze will turn stronger right around 3:00 in the afternoon. that will level off. the quick warm-up to inland temperatures around tri-valley an areas south of san jose today, which will see temperatures climbing into the mid-80s around downtown san jose, upper 80s and low 90s around saratoga over towards

morgan hill. peninsula temperatures not too bad, 70s closer to redwood city 60s in san francisco where you'll need a jacket but you're not going to need a jacket around tri-valley. you see numbers soaring upper 80s and low 90s. oakland 72 early afternoon start to the a's game this afternoon. we should manage some 70s before that sea breeze picks up towards the enof the game. those winds southwest 10 to 20 a little later on. the north bay temperatures today in the mid-80s. now, tomorrow we're going to see cooler changes for father's day plans tomorrow. a few extra low clouds. again, this high pressure ridge starting to weaken as we head into sunday. now, today it's holding strong powering up very hot temperatures down towards southern california. that number close to 116 in palm springs. mid-90s the warmest we'll see towards tri-valley and south of san jose. as the system passes by to the north, early tomorrow that's going to enhance the sea breeze and really drop those inland temperatures down into the 70s and 80s and out towards san

francisco and the coast will likely be stuck in the low clouds for your sunday forecast. so father's day sunday will see temperatures cooling off out of the 90s inland. now we're talking about lower 80s around south bay for tomorrow. notice the cooling trend should continue as we get into monday. tuesday temperatures trying to rebound a little bit. notice father's day sunday in san francisco looks a little misty, temperatures in the low 60s. temperatures rebounding a little bit as you approach tuesday. into the north bay, temperatures dropping out of the 80s into the lower 80s as winds pick up out of the south. that's going to cool things off through monday, tuesday, temperatures begin to rebound a bit. perhaps one of the bigger changes we'll see. tri-valley temperatures upper 80s and 90s, dropping counsel into the low 80s tomorrow. windy at times. temperatures staying cool into monday and climbing back up into tuesday. it does look like a windy and cooler finish to the weekend. unfortunately winds towards sierra will prompt red flag warning for lake tahoe.

>> it's an argument for years. new data pokes holes in accuracy at least as it concerns medical marijuana. >> people have had a lot of concerns passing medical marijuana could send the wrong message to teens by saying that it's safe or possibly acceptable. >> columbia university professor says decades of research just released shatters that perception. consider this, since 1996 in the continental u.s. 21 states in the district of columbia have passed laws for medical marijuana, a list that includes california. the professor looks at teen usage in those states before and after the laws went into effect reviewing questionnaires from more than a million adolescents and here is what she found. one, states that passed medical marijuana laws did not see a rise in teen use afterwards. actually they witnessed a small drop. two, those same states had higher teen use to begin with compared to the rest of the

country. does this mean results hinge on a state's culture or can we say passing medical marijuana laws doesn't lead to a spike in teen usage. >> i think it's clear from findings up until now passing medical marijuana law in a given state doesn't lead to increase in teen marijuana use. it's a little hard to say what would happen in the future. our plan is to keep monitoring the trends with states that pass the laws to see how it evolves over time. >> reality, no evidence passing medical marijuana causes a rise in teen usage. you can't draw conclusions about this study about passing recreational marijuana laws like the one likely to appear on california's ballot. those do have a broader impact because they affect so many more people. this is reality check, back to you. a hunt for multi-million dollar treasure may be more trouble than it'sworth.

art dealer announced he hid treasure in the rocky mountains worth as much as $3 million. treasure hunters have descended on the area and many are getting lost and seriously injured. national park officials say those hunting for ben's fortune are now costing taxpayer's money and damaging national resources. >> tried to build a raft all sorts of people trying to get to this alleged treasure that we don't believe is in the park anyway. >> park officials say not only will they start charging for the cost of search and rescue crews, they may also press charges against treasure hunters. still ahead on "today in the bay," we'll have more from warriors celebration including dedication to the breakout star of the playoffs. that's, of course, riley curry.
