including over on the right side at the pass. 280 at farm hill, there were reports of a vehicle having hit a deer overnight. we're going to watch for chp activity. so far nothing scheduled. back to you. >> thank you, mike. breaking news, what we mentioned earlier, taliban militants detonated bombs and fired rockets into the afghan parliament overnight. it wounded dozens of people and startled lawmakers gathered for a vote. >> that in the middle of session. live local tv coverage showing law make. ers at the moment of the aa tack. you can see the walls shaking. . officials say the bomber blew himself up just outside of the parliament building. several other militants stormed the gate and engaged in a fire fight with afghany forces. it ended hours ago with all six gunmen killed. happening right now, police

remain in a stalemate with a man perched on top of a construction crane. >> investigators say this man may be upset about being homeless. >> he refuses to come down. the situation forced police to close off this portion of 6th street between santa clara. the man who is in the cabin of the crane was walking on the arm of the crane for awhile. they have been communicating with him but unable to coerce him down. the superintendent has been to the scene and told his 100 or so workers that there will be no work today, to stay home. they are building a parking structure here across the street from city hall. at this point, police say they are just going to wait him out.

>> e we don't have to the ability to go up there and extract them out of there. it's too dangerous for our officers and the subject himself. >> the san jose fire department is shining a spotlight on the cabin so police can keep an eye on the situation. at this hour, the man remains inside the cabin. police say they will stay out here at the scene, but once traffic begins to pick up in downtown san jose, they might release most of the officers and leave one officer here at the scene keeping an eye on the situation. that's the latest live in downtown san jose. >> hopefully there will be a peaceful resolution. tensions are mounting in the nation's capitol as the supreme court considers several high profile cases and how the justice rules today could have implications here in california. the nine justices are reviewing legal challenges to ban in four

states, ohio, tennessee, michigan and kentucky. if they overturn in those states, it will apply nationally. if the court rules in favor of the states, the future of california's prop 8 as well as marriage equality in 20 other states would be up in question. right now 35 states recognize same sex unions and many experts believe the judges will vote in favor of marriage equality. a decision could come as early as this morning. the state level now, a pair of bills giving terminally ill patients a chance for a cure are making their way through the legislation clur. the right to try would give them an opportunity to try experimental drugs, products or devices not yet approved by the fda. the bills have sailed through their chambers and likely be combined into one final bill. the governor hasn't indicated whether he's going to sign that

into law. women are reported seeing two flashers last week. one woman told police a man exposed himself to her in the parking lot of a shopping center in fremont last thursday. two days earlier another woman reported a flasher near. gateway z plaza. police searched the area but made no arrests. this morning investigators are trying to figure out the cause of what started a home to burn to the ground. the fire. tore through this home sunday evening. firefighters were on a medical call nearby when they saw the flames. winds carried some embers into neighboring yards. fortunately no other homes were burned. firefighters say several propane tanks at the house exploded in that fire. a scary scene. neighbors say it sounded like there were bombs going off. >> there were explosives.

so it was a little scary to say the least. >> neighbor says the homeowner hasn't lived in the house for two years because he's out of state caring for his elderly mom. his friends say it appears that squatters have been living in that house for months. the manhunt for the two fugitives from new york continues this weekend. there were reported sightings. over the weekend a woman reported seeing men match iing e descriptions of david sweat and richard mat. hundreds of officers searched the area but turned up nothing. senator schumer said possible sightings of the two suggest that the fugitives aren't traveling solely on foot. funeral this is week will be held for the nine people killed inside a church in south carolina. it was an emotional weekend in charleston. across the country for that matter. bells rang for nine minutes

commemorating each life lost. the church reopened sunday for the first time since the massacre. hundreds attended that service and hundreds more surrounded the building. . >> it has been tough, it's been rough. some of us have been down right angry. but through it all, god has sustained us. >> 21-year-old dylann roof faces nine murder charges. authorities have found more troubling pieces of his past as well. we'll have more on the investigation coming up in a live report at 5:45. a group walked to stand with charleston in the wake of that mass shooting and to call for support for the african-american community. the event was called charleston action white silence violence. one of the organizers said it's important to generation a wide support.

falling 100 points friday. americans are spending more money than ever on coffee, but for the first time in six years they are drinking less. the usda says coffee consumption is expected to drop because of single serve machines. more people are only brewing what they plan to drink versus making a whole pot of coffee. and apple say it is will pay royalties to musicians during the free trials for their new music streaming service. it comes after taylor swift pulled her latest album and posted an open letter criticizing apple on tumblr. don't ask us to provide our music for no compensation. >> i think that's an interesting argument that everybody can understand. thank you. >> taylor swift is ruling this

conversation. ibm is rolling out new software to help cities and states prepare for natural disasters. the tech news site reports they will unveil their operation center for emergency management. today the software connects with weather data to predict and plan for major weather events. it can also simulate how a storm would affect the infrastructure giving an idea of where to send emergency crews. no replacement for your favorite meteorologist. >> speaking of emergencies, wildfires continue to rage in southern california as crews struggling to get a handle on this particular blaze. this fire has already scorched 25 square miles in the national forest. it's been going on for days. fire officials say high temperatures and winds will push the smoke east towards residents. no evacuations are in place and no homes have been burned. that fire is 19% contained. 2015 is already setting up to be

the worst fire year on record. so far this year, they have responded to 1100 fires, usually this time of year that figure is under 650, so almost twice as much. firefighters say the moisture content in vegetation is very low increasing the potential for more serious fires. several roads, bridges and highways in southern oklahoma have been just washed away by flood waters. officials say a manmade levy crumbled. you can see from the pictures muddy water poured into the town. we have not been told whether anyone was hurt, but the army corps of engineers is working to fix the levi right now and they will be working around the clock to plug that leak. hard to tell when you have flooding, you can't see what's underneath. but when you see a bridge that's just gone. dry conditions really are stoking concerns with fires.

we just saw we're at twice as many fires for this time of year. >> that's pretty rough. especially when you consider there's no rain in the forecast for the week and those temperatures start to go up midweek and closer to the weekend. it's now 58 degrees in the east way. mostly clear skies as you head out. it will be another gorgeous day. wasn't this weekend beautiful? expect more of that today and for the next couple of days. we do still have some fog on the bay in coastal areas seeing patchy fog this morning. we'll see the thickest fog towards san francisco and then parts of the coastal north bay. that's where visibility will be the lowest this morning as you head out. we do have more of a northwesterly wind today. it will start to kick up as we go through the afternoon. winds a at 10 to 15 miles per hour. here we are at noon. we have more of an on shore flow at 15 miles per hour. then we see the winds at 15, maybe 20 later on today.

so overall a light wind. it won't be kicking up really high. it will be just enough to bring in a a nice on shore flow. as we go hour by hour, we're at 55 degrees. at 11:00, we made it up to 61 degrees. and then you see the sunshine after the morning low clouds roll out of here. 63 degrees at 1:00. and then we see some lower 60s dipping back to 57 degrees by 9:00. then we'll see the low clouds move back in. today in san jose, not too bad. this is actually a little cooler than average. redwood city, 76. 61 degrees and santa rosa today, 71, we'll see upper 60s for parts of the east bay and 68 degrees to 82 degrees for walnut skreek krooek. still some 80s for parts of the try valley. at least we're not talking about 90s here. i'll have another look at the forecast. >> it was beautiful this weekend. in san francisco, it was
