shortage that's piling too much work on employees. before the weekend county leaders had said the budget is tight. they were confident both sides were close to reaching an agreement to avoid what would have been the first santa clara county employee strike of its kind in more than four decades. it would not have included 475 essential employees, they would have to report to work and that did include, i looked at the court documents, about 40, 911 dispatchers, the tentative agreement reached by both sides covers four years. both the board of supervisors as well as union membership both have to vote to official' approve it. live in san jose this morning, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." a bay area kind fwart ner facing discrimination at school because of his haircut. that's the accusation from the five-year-old's family. that suit claims that jaylin was told he could not come to immaculate heart of mary school in belmont with this haircut. jaylin's who are says that she had to bring him home from school in december because the principal told her that his

5:07 am
there is just no amount that they can pay back into thank you very much, scott. a developing story right now in a fast moving wildfire that's torn through at least two dozen homes and four businesses in the pacific northwest. the sleepy hollow fire is burning 50 miles east of seattle right now. flames wiped out one neighborhood. in a before and after look we are about to show you how destructive this fire is. the homes on the left side completely effaced, on the right side of your screen. about 3,000 acres burned taking out a downtown recycling plant as well. so far that fire only about 10% contained. >> that is a socking picture just to see it wiped clear, that neighborhood. it is 5:07 right now. meteorologist kari hall is looking at our forecast. we know that as temperatures get hotter we can expect increased fire danger. we do have to be careful out there. >> i was driving just the other day and saw someone had flicked a cigarette out the window and caught the pull much on fire in the median. you can't do that.
5:08 am
we have very dry conditions. it's not in the low to mid 60s across the bay area as you wake up this morning. tri-valley 65 degrees, but look at where you're headed this afternoon. it is going to be extremely hot and you just need to make sure you try to stay cool, drink lots of water and take care of those pets. in san francisco 77 degrees today, north bay 95 degrees, also 95 degrees in the south bay and the peninsula this afternoon reaching 86 degrees. so after this scorcher of a pay it unfortunately gets even hot -- hotter as we head into tomorrow. i will talk more about that in the next microclimate forecast. right now let's get a look at traffic with mike. we're going to take folks first out of 880 over by the nimitz freeway. you see the lighter volume up toward high treat. north of high street reports of a disabled vehicle blocking your slow lane. this megaphone shouts out that

towards sanity rosa we do see a little less visibility. with the low clouds this morning they will be clearing out quickly. we're starting out this morning with temperatures in the 60s in willow glen of 3 degrees, gilroy 61 degrees, evergreen 62 degrees. it's 54 degrees in the north bay. so high pressure is right over us. it you causes the air to sink, it keeps any clouds away from our area, keeps the atmosphere very stable, but temperatures also heat up and it's bringing in more of a southwesterly wind and with that we see the heat creeping in from the east and we could reach over 100 degrees today for parts of the tri-valley, like just to the east of concord and livermore, we see the temperatures reaching into the upper 90s and even some 80s elsewhere. but later this week we may see a surge in moisture coming in and with that it could increase the chance of some rain, but with the temperatures this hot it could cause that moisture to
5:20 am
evaporate and that could create a lightning risk and as well as a fire danger across our area in time for the start of the weekend. we will keep you up to date on that. over the next three days our temperatures go from the 90s in the south bay to the 80s in the peninsula. san francisco, even reaching 78 degrees tomorrow, and in the north bay we see some upper 90s tomorrow, the heat peaking by tomorrow afternoon, and the tri-valley could be as hot as 106 degrees. i will have another look at the microclimate forecast, including the weekend, right now let's check in with mike. pay be planning your escape routes from some of those places. the rest of the bay moves nicely, no problem for that flow of traffic, peninsula, south bay, an easy light drive. over here toward the tri-valley where westbound 580 that's a slowly drive out of the at mott into livermore. nothing unusual about this pattern. we're going to move your map over toward the east bay from

members and about 50 passengers. it is unclear what caused that crash. the escaped new york inmate caught over the weekend is recovering right now in the hospital and he's already talking to investigators. that was the big question. would he. david sweat told them that he and richard matt planned to go to mexico after breaking out of their maximum security prison. joyce mitchell backed out at the last minute so sweat and matt decided to head north to canada, but along the way sweat says he got fed up with matt. >> sweat actually disengaged from matt about five days ago because sweat felt that matt was slowing him down. >> which might explain why matt was killed separately without sweat around. he was killed by law enforcement on friday. sweat captured on sunday is. he also told investigators that the prison guard, gene palmer, was not involved in that escape plot. palmer was arrested and right now he is out on bail.
