union to pickett outside buildings like the main county building here, but as you can see it is empty, it is quiet, so the sound of success, if you will, after a 72 hour nonstop bargaining session. so some tired members of both sides of the negotiating teams exiting the main county building around -- after 3:00 this morning, that's when the tentative deal was finally reached with just a couple hours to spare until 6:00 a.m. the deadline when the strike was set to start. the local union 521 represents rourl 9,000 of 17,000 county workers, that including 911 dispatchers and social workers and nurses. this morning the county executive says there are 30 members on each negotiating team going through contracts that are hundreds of pages long, but he was confident even before the weekend that both sides could strike a deal. >> just like any negotiations, you know, there's cuff patches, disagreement, conflict, but as you're committed to it and both sides are committed to make it
6:47 am
work it comes together. >> reporter: and that's what happened this morning. there was a lot of frustration after months of sun successful negotiations. the employees had said they're underpaid while departments were critically understaffed. the details of this compromise won't be public million they're presented to the cuny supervisors as well as to the union for both sides to officially approve this tentative teal covers a four-year period. live in san jose is, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." thanks, testify. into 6:47. time to get a look at your microclimate forecast as we give you a live rook at san jose. there is no avoiding this, a heat wave settling in the middle of our week. let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. get ready. >> it was so nice over the weekend. yesterday it started to recall with a up just a little bit, today will be even hotter and we reach the peak of the heat for tomorrow. now as we look at the live picture of san francisco you can see we do still have a low deck
6:48 am
of clouds and some patchy fog rolling across the city, but then as we get a look at what's happening now in mt. hamilton we do see all the clear skies and we start out this morning with sunshine across the south bay and no fog to start out. now, our temperatures at 63 degrees in mountain view and san francisco 55 degrees, but then it jumps up 10 degrees in livermore, it is going to be a hot day and what will not work in our favor, the sea breeze. we won't have much of an on-shore flow. we now have more of and a northwesterly wind and the wind really doesn't pick up this afternoon. so the heat starts to build and we do have a high pressure just to the east of us. it is allowing for that heat that's across the desert southwest and even for the central valley to creep into the bay area and this is where temperatures are headed, between today and tomorrow.
6:49 am
reaching over 100 degrees for spots like antioch and discovery bay and then you had just a little bit farther to the west, concord, livermore into the upper 90s, even 70s and 80s for the bay. later on this week the heat starts to break town. high pressure just to the east of us bringing in a southerly wind and it may draw in some monsoonal moisture, but unfortunately with all of this heat today and tomorrow it may cause that moisture to dry out, but still leave the risk of some lightning and some thunderstorms moving across the bay area for the end of the week, also for the sear rachlt we'll keep you up-to-date with that. the next three days our heat continues to go up, the south bay reaching 98 degrees tomorrow, 88 degrees in the peninsula and san francisco reaching 78 degrees, but there may be a couple of spots reaching as high as 106 degrees by tomorrow and the east bay topping out at 80 degrees for
6:50 am

6:51 am
slowing. there were a couple crashes earlier. they are cleared from the roadway but that added distraction slowed a bit who are toward the san mateo bridge and the build is on over towards san mateo. south toward fremont for 880 into the south bay, that is a slower drive, west 237 builds over towards is sunny vil. on 101 we will show you palo alto, although the northbound sideshows a little slowly slowing not a big volume of traffic. you are also showing a little slow down. that will build. back to you. breaking news we're continuing to follow this story. two american soldiers injured in a suicide blast in kabul overnight. they are expected to survive. that attack in afghanistan targeted a nato convoy less than a half mile from the u.s. embassy. one afghan civilian was killed, 25 others injured, including some women and children. taliban is claiming responsibility for that attack. and developing right now in in indonesia, there are no survivors after a military plane

6:53 am
are hot and dry which means the fire could pick up at any moment. behind me you see that one fire is burning down here in the downtown area, four businesses were destroyed when embers from another fire in the neighborhood blew in this direction. this fire called the sleepy hollow fire moved quickly on sunday, some homeowners only had 30 minutes to evaluate. at least 24 hours houses were destroyed. no one was seriously injured, one woman says the only reason she survived was that a neighbor knocked on her door and told her to get out. a quick rain shower did help slow down the flames. it is 10% contained, about 3,000 acres have burned. many ee vac wees are returns to their homes but they want to keep an eye on these conditions. we will have the latest coming up live on "the today show." new this morning, a shooting at one of the busiest intersections in the south bay,
