we start out with low clouds and some mist and drizzle as you walk out the door. it's it in the lower 60s across most of the bay area, although san francisco at 59 degrees. as we go into the afternoon we'll see a slight chance of some rain moving in in some spots, especially the north bay, and the rest of us we will see those low clouds. look at how cool these temperatures will be this afternoon. yeah, this is the high temperature, 74 degrees in the south bay, peninsula 73 degrees and the east bay 70. while san francisco makes it up to 65. there will be a chance of some rain for the north bay. looking now at the radar we see there have been some lightning strikes up around ukiah. also a chance of showers for the rest of the bay later on this afternoon. i will have details on that coming up a little bit later. let's check in now with mike. we're looking at an unusually big backup over at the

bay bridge paragraph it. by big i mean a couple dozen cars. you can see both sides. likely they haven't opened all of those, the toll takers. i will swing the camera around from emeryville and see if i can spot that. the reason i height not be able to see that toll plaza situation is because of the approximate mist in the air. you can see the lights across the span and drivers are to go all right, but we will track that. we will show you the speed sensors are not a problem. right around fish ranch road an earlier crash, activity off the roadway. as we look at the rest of the bay in a couple of seconds, we will talk about that doyle drive closure right after this next breaking news. a neighborhood on edge after a violent home invasion. >> this happened on lake view drive. that's where police say someone was shot inside of their home overnight. "today in the bay" bob redell is live. officers told you the robbers

just got away. >> reporter: that's their belief, sam and laura. s.w.a.t. team had already cleared the house within the past half hour, they thought maybe one of the of suspects was still inside, possibly shot. this is a house where an elderly man who lives there was shot and badly hurt. just moments ago the an leaned droe police cleared this neighborhood, his police k-9s aren't catching any scents of the suspects, they therefore believe the suspects got away. police are not sure how many men were involved in this home invasion, at least two, possibly four. it was around 12:45 this morning, it they burst into this home on lake view drive where an elderly couple lives inside. according to police the man who lives there fired at the suspects with his own gun, he was shot at back, they returned fire. so he is in critical condition, was taken to the hospital. his wife was not hurt in the exchange, but she is being interviewed as well. it they're trying to get a better sense of who these suspects were.

because there was an exchange of gunfire the wife believes possibly one of the suspects was hit as well. they have cleared this neighborhood of any suspects and the shelter in place that they had it this place for the people who live around here they have or are about to be lifting this. police are also looking into whether this is a targeted attack they said because of the location, we are high up it in the san leandro hills, you actually have to know where you're going to get up here and the fact this is an affluent neighborhood is raising the question whether this may have been a targeted attack. bob redell, "today in the bay." we have more breaking news now, a man is dead after being hit by a vta light rail train in milpitas. it happened off cass man and alder drive right next to the cisco campus. no passengers were on the train. investigators are trying to figure out exactly what happened. morning vta service will not be impacted. are you prepared?

this evening the main route on to and off of the golden gate bridge is going to be shut down. "today in the bay" stephanie chuang joins us live near doyle drive. it's going to be a big headache for drivers. >> reporter: definitely frustrating for some. richardson avenue and marina boulevard will both be closed for this three-day weekend closh ur. we're told delays could be up to four hours for some drivers. so be prepared for that. take a look at the animated map that we have for you, it shows you what's going to be open in green and what's closed in red this weekend. you will not be able to k as ses or enter the bridge from 101. parking lots at the bridge pavilion and vista point will also be closed. there will be additional ferries but buses will have to deal with some of the same traffic as well. you may want to avoid the golden gate bridge all together this weekend. if you can't, get that early start >> i come here every day, that means i have to get to my office

steinle graduated from a.m. adore valley high school and cal poly. the man accused of killing her pleaded not guilty to murder charges earlier this week. the potential dangers of fracking will take the spotlight in sacramento. that's when a state sponsored assessment of fracking risks is set to be released. the timing of the release is off. governor brown had asked for it ahead of the release of a new set of fracking rules and regulations but those rules were announced on july 1st. we've already mentioned that it's kind of a misty start to your thursday morning. we've been sprinkled the last couple of days in the bay area, mott heavy rainfall. >> no, not heavy rain but i think we will see more of that as we go into this afternoon, more of the clouds and mist coming through, especially in san francisco and parts of the north bay. as we look at the out bay right now in san jose all clear although as you walk out the

door and look out you see the low clouds. they will be with us even as we go through the morning. let's get a closer look at some of the fog you go hadding the bay in san francisco and the north bay visibility will be low and the darker shades of gray show where the lower visibility will be. we will see that with us throughout most of the afternoon with highs reaching 77 degrees in san jose, redwood city 74 degrees, a lot of clouds, marina 64 degrees, 74 in santa rosa and vallejo reaching 69 degrees in the tri-valley. only in the mid 70s today and a little bit of sunshine this afternoon. i will talk more about what to expect today with a slight chance of rain and this weekend's forecast coming up. good morning, mike. good morning. i swung the camera around, not a great view of the toll plaza from the emeryville camera, but we will look at this toll plaza camera. we still have a little backup at the toll plaza but only on your left approach, the right approach cleared. let's look at your map.

overall speed sensors what we would expect all around the bay, a smooth drive. we just have ak it tifft over in san francisco, self-chuang was talking about overnight they close this area from the marina district over to 101. so as you're looking at the map you see that california and geary, those are the only two connectors south of the presidio area because that whole presidio area is not through traffic and that's forcing everybody over towards 19th. we'll talk about it today and tomorrow. we'll look at the south bay, it shows an easy drive. the rest of the bay a light drive. tri-valley openly owners struggling to keep their lawns green during the draught have another way to get free recycled water. they have opened up a second fill station, people can get up to 300 gallons of water per visit. that might do the rick. there's no limit on visits per day. the station is located on clark avenue near the 580/680

see those droplets on the lens there. it's 59 degrees in san francisco, the east bay 63 degrees and 62 delgs in the peninsula. a closer look at the south bay it's 62 eggs it, morgan hill at 61 degrees. where we've seen some action this morning, it's the north bay. we've had had some lightning and also some showers beginning to develop here in the past couple of hours. let's get a closer look as i try to zoom in here. it's been just to the north of santa rosa and the last couple of frames here you will start to see some green moving in showing some rain and it continues to move farther off towards the we. elsewhere it's been all dry and very quiet here, but the future cast shows that there may be some more rain developing for parts of the north bay and some wet weather that could measure up to be maybe a tenth of an inch in many spots. it fizzles out as it moves towards the east bay and this
