that could keep them on the job. >> they've been working hard for hours now. bob redell, how is are the negotiations looking? >> as of last night, not well, according to a representative with the san jose police officers union. later dat both the police and firefighters will meet behind doors with leaders of san jose to try to come to an agreement on the pension cuts mandated by measure b, a voter-approved measurer that both sides have fought over in court. today is the day either side would appeal those previous court decisions. if they could come to an agreement, can't meet this self-imposed deadline, then they could end you said with the negotiation breaking down. one of the hangups reportedly hinges on retirement benefits.

more medical news now, a new study revealing breast cancer survivors may gain more weight. the johns hopkins study compares 300 women diagnosed with breast cancer with cancer-free women. religioners found they gained nearly four pounds more than healthy women within five years of their diagnosis. women undergoing chemotherapy put on typically an additional 11 pounds. we all know secondhand smoke is bad, but a new stilledy says it may be worse for women. the study finds a consistent link between secondhand smoke and the risk of stroke. it looked at 20,000 people age 45 and up. those exposed to secondhand smoke were 30% more likely to suffer a stroke within six years. within that group women were almost twice as likely to live with a smoker and be exposed to smoke, leading to higher risks

to close businesses engaged in prostitution. under the ordinance, massage parlors must have a permit from the chief. he can revoke that permit if he thinks illegal activity is taking place, even if no one is prosecuted. pleasant hills police have conducted investigation at 16 different parlors. oakland police use a stun gun to stop a man following a bizarre incident at lake merritt. "oakland tribune" says someone saw a man strangling the goose and then reportedly beheaded the animal. officers used a stun gun to calm him down. he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. it's not quite a dog day on top in dublin, instead make more of a dog today morning. deputies will demonstrate new technologies for canine police dog units.
