peaks this afternoon. right now it's in the 50s and 60s as you head out, 62 degrees in the east bay and in the peninsula it's 61 degrees. here is the forecast for today. reaching 80 degrees in the east bay, peninsula 85 degrees and the tri-valley of course the hottest spot today reaching 95 degrees. in the south bay today also very toasty, reaching 90 degrees. so after today the heat backs on just a little bit in time for the weekend and we may be racking some tropical rain, maybe some clouds moving am. i will have details on that coming up in a few minutes. good morning, mike. we're looking at cars moving around here. this is san jose, no the a lot of cars, that's good news. this is northbound 101 just north of 680. about a half mile farther north he with do have reports of a crash just part mckee. that was a concern, it's over on the shoulder. there is south bay. zooming out to the rest of the bay the roads are moving tine.

we do have an early start, 15 minute delays for the fremont to richmond line. maybe some overnight road work -- i mean road track work. back to you guys. we do begin with breaking news out of pittsburg this morning. flames shoot out of a business spreading fire a quarter achor >> wooden pallets caught fire inside the business. so far no injuries have been reported and we have just learned that crews have got that fire under control. all of this happening off of industry road in pittsburg where there are plenty of other businesses in that area as of "today in the bay" bob redell is heading to the scene, he is going to bring us an update and live report. also new, a 20-year-old man is in critical condition after an overnight shooting in the east bay. it happened at a business on sycamore drive near l street in antioch, that's right by the contra costa fairgrounds. there police found the pan who had been shot several times. he was rushed to the hospital

but is expected to survive. police say it appears the man was shot somewhere else and ran to the business for help. no word on any arrests. investigators hope to learn more about a crash that killed an 84-year-old woman in san ramo ramone. it happened late last night. investigators say the woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck at a well-known intersection in san ramone. this is daugherty and red willow road. crews shut down southbound daugherty road to investigate physical around 2:00 this morning. both witnesses and authorities tried to save the woman but she was pronounced dead on scene. the driver is cooperating with authorities. now to news we have been following overnight. former president jornl hw bush waking up with a broken bone had this his neck this morning after falling. it comes as the son jeb bush heads to san francisco today. today the republican presidential candidate will be visiting the headquarters of the company thumbtack.

"today in the bay" stephanie chuang joining us live in service in our newsroom with more on his visit approximate. >> reporter: this is a short swing through the bay area for the republican presidential contender who did attend a $2700 her person fundraiser dinner at a home in san francisco just last night. now, here he is set to highlight on entrepreneurship as well as the benefits of small business. on that note this morning he is set to visit thumbtack, a startup launched in 2009 that connects people with local services and companies like portrait taking, house painters, dog walkers. it is a startup founded by two former aids in president george w. bush's administration. so far the former florida governor and supporting super pacs are raised a total of $114 million for his presidential campaign. that is more than any other candidate in that gone field, however, he has some stiff competition. donald trump is right now the

front runner gaining national attention after his comments on illegal immigration, on top of that a brand-new "associated press" gsk poll reveals bush is dealing with growing negative views. 44% say they have an unfavorable view of the former florida governor and that is up from 36% back just in april. after his visit set this morning this in san francisco in the south market neighborhood bush is set to go to a fundraising luncheon in silicon valley. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." a new poll finds fewer people have a favorable view of hillary clinton, but many of her republican rivals are not faring any better. 39% view clinton favorably, most, half, say they disagree. 40% say clinton is compassionate, the percentage calling her inspiring is 37%. when it comes to republicans nearly all the candidates are viewed who are negatively hand positively, some by large

margins. mean gop candidates including jeb bush are coming out in support of uber. this as the company faces more legal turmoil. a judge ruled uber sudden be fined 7 million sooirnd. uber refused to provide data that legalizing ride sharing firms. it would reveal if they are tolling all fair rides to all customers. for those taking the wheel of their on car this is very disconcerting. there have been two fires in three days in the exact same spot on the bay bridge. now, cal tran says it knows the cause, flares left by construction crews, but not everyone is buying that explanati explanation. the most recent fire broke out yesterday afternoon from the joint that connects the treasure island portions of that new suspension span. while it's the same place at that a fire happened on monday. initially caltrans diagnosed it and suspected a discarded cigarette was the cause. no you they're saying

construction crews could be to blame, but bay bridge drivers have mixed reaction it is to that explanation. >> i believe whatever they say. i wasn't there. >> that sounds a little crazy to me but i'm not sure to be honest. i don't know what to think. >> the investigation into the fires is ongoing. caltrans says that the fires did not incur any sort of structural damage to the bridge. now to a south bay town with a big city problem. traffic so bad at times in los gatos town leaders say it's a public safety issue. they say when highway 17 backs up with people headed to the beach drivers head on to city streets trying to get around traffic, but it causes gridlock on city streets. residents say it can take 20 minutes to go four block. >> i crept through town like everybody else of it was horrible. >> every single street in the downtown is stopped completely. firetrucks and police cars can't get places. the town is talking with

caltrans and police about what can be done to keep things moving. options include closing highway 17 on and off ramps, rerouting town traffic and having police direct traffic. town leaders hope to have a plan put into action by labor day. happening today, the fight over frozen embryos is going to boil over in court. this morning the woman at the center of a case that's grabbing national headlines is going to tell her side of the story to a san francisco judge. 46-year-old mimi lee is in the midst of a bitter divorce. the couple froze five embryos after lee was diagnosed with cancer. she now wants control of the embryos, her only chance to have children, but her soon to be ex-husband wants those embryos destroyed, which is what the couple agreed upon in case they split. i want to check the forecast with kari, she how we're faring for today. >> it will be hot today, we will have a cloudy and mist retart near the coast but the heat does

be some minor delays. you see the traffic flow on the roadways is just fine but the bart lines might be having a minor delay reported on the system. the bay bridge toll plaza, an easy drive, easy flow off the east shore freeway and a quick look at the incline shows you no problems all the way to treasure island with those taillights into the system. hopefully a fire free thursday on the bay bridge. a victory for all sides after a three year fight for pension reform. san jose fire and police unions finally have a deal with the city. how the two sides managed to hammer out a compromise in the nick of time. and president obama wading into new territory at his news conference on the iran deal, what the commander in chief had to say about bill cosby that compelled the country to take notice.

we have a crew at the scene and we will bring you more information when it becomes available to us. note that the police activity is not impacting traffic right now on 101. 4:44. three-year battle between city leaders and public safety unions in san jose is over. last night both sides agreed on a deal to end legal wrangling over measure b, that's the pension reform bill voters approved in this 2012. details are minimal, we do know the deal covers retirement benefits for police and firefighters and could jump start settlements with other unions. union leaders have threatened to walk out the negotiations if they could not reach an agreement by midnight. >> for all of us this is a moment to exhale. it is a moment to celebrate our collective commitment, to move beyond the contentiousness of the past and forge a new pat. >> police and fire rank and file are expected to ratify the deal

in the coming days. california leaders want to hand out money, they want you to take their money, they are just not sure how to do it just yet. when governor brown enacted his drought executive order in april it called for a short term rebate program for everyone who buys new water saving household appliances. today california's utilities leaders are going to hear from the public before drafting their new guidelines. they are going to take place at a workshop at the state office building in oakland. a little money is making all the difference for san jose libraries which today celebrate their own come back story. at almaden library mayor sam liccardo will help park expanded hours across the city. pour years ago library service was slashed to four days a week because of cuts. in march thanks to new money from voter-approved measures the mayor's office allowed all city libraries to reopen every day but sunday. since then you might say a new chapter has begun. it was billed as christmas

rights as other employees. that means pro teams are required to hire cheerleaders as workers instead of contractors. that entitles them to minimum wage, overtime, even sick leave. the bill comes after some of the raiders cheerleaders filed a wage and theft lawsuit claiming wages are too low. a news conference on an iran nuclear deal took an unexpected turn when the president was questioned about bill cosby. mr. obama said he would not kmnt on the specific case but he did have this to say. >> if you give a come or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge a drug and then have sex with that person without consent, that's rape. >> that comment came after a reporter asked about efforts to revoked cosby's medal of freedom awarded in 2002 by then

president george w. bush. president obama says there is no way to revoked the medal but last week it was revealed that cosby admitted to giving a woman drugs before sex in a 2005 deposition requested by the "associated press." more than 30 women have accused the comedian of sexual assault, cosby has never been charged. a water war is officially settled. southern california water district will accept more than $21,000 from tom sell electrek. he is accused of using a tanker truck to take water to his ranch. the district says it happened more than a dozen times over two years. >> that is a largest ate to keep green grass going, especially right now. not seeing too much green gas around our parts is. >> seeing a lot of brown lawns out there. want to check the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. >> it will be hot. with highs reaching into the 90s today it stays hot the next couple of days.

right now we are walking out the door with temperatures near 60 degrees and this afternoon reaching 85 degrees. in the peninsula, east bay, 80 degrees, tri-valley today, 96 degrees, while the south bay makes it up to 90 degrees. a lot of sunshine, too, and not much wind as we go through the day until later on this evening. now we are looking at hurricane dolores, the wind speeds of 115 miles an hour, this is a powerful hurricane out there off the western coast of mexico. and it continues on as a hurricane for the next couple of days and then becomes a tropical storm by sunday. this is when we will keep an eye out on dolores because it looks like as the storm weakness the pressure systems may steer this right into southern california, possibly the bay area. at least we may feel an increase in humidity by sunday, maybe some lightning and a slight chance of a little bit of rain, but unfortunately the rain chances not very high, and this

won't be a drought busting rain, especially if we get it between sunday night and monday. this weekend will be a nice one. the heat coming back down, won't be as hot. sunday we will have a little bit more of a cloud cover to bring thousand temperatures down, but look at the tri-valley, still in the 90s, even through the weekend. i will send it back to you, sam. >> thank you. with no rain on the lor zon lawns if california are not just burning you brown, they're actually shrinking. the state water commission passed new rules allowing new homes in california to have a small patch of grass. starting december 1st the lawn can only cover 25% of new homes. newly constructed basis and schools grass with koenl be installed in picnic areas, ball fields or recreational areas. as a result many landscapers say that they're going to focus on lawn removal and drought friendly yards. the commission claims the changes will reduce water usage in new homes by 20%. >> we're going to look like arizona soon.
