small pallet factory, it's about a quarter ache nr size here on harbor and industry in pittsburg. fire started around 3:00 this morning with the sounds of explosions, presumably just the air pockets erupting inside this large file of pallets, you had about 1,000 pallets, one thing as the fire department pointed out to us is with that much wood with a lot of air in between it, you are going to get a fire that's going to burn fast and burn big. that was the case. one issue for the fire department when they arrived was a downed power line that was energizining the fence. >> they called it really early on, my guess is that there was probably arcing and sparking at the beginning there and there's a cycle that pg&e goes through, they will try and restart the power several times, which is the part that make it dangerous for us. but they were able to get here pretty quickly and once they
6:02 am
were here they disconnected all the power. >> am in 30 minutes? >> it was about 20 minutes. >> reporter: as you can see back out here live, pg&e is out here dealing with that power line that you can see a dangling. you can imagine at the beginning it was making contact with the fence, energizing it, workers are out here to fix that. again, this fire is out, a two-alarm fire. no one was at home -- or on site at the time, this started in the in the middle of the night. the dog is fine. they still don't know the cause. reporting live here in pittsburg, bob redell, "today in the bay." more breaking news. this time in the south bay where san jose police are trying to piece together what led to a deadly shooting early this morning. around 2:30 a man who had been shot drove up to the social security offers on fontaine road, near tully road and 101. he died at the hospital. officers are now going door to door, this is a live look at the scene, they've been going to nearby hotels to see if there were any witnesses.
