their babies or cars. >> reporter: all people could do is grab families and head to safety. and along i-15 cars trucks and tractor-trailers were going up in flames. for over an hour those who ran huddled near fire trucks for protection. >> there goes 1,000 gallons of water. >> reporter: as air tankers tried to put out the flames. >> a big wall of flames. >> reporter: meanwhile, winds continue to push the fire into neighboring communities burning structures and forcing evacuation evacuations. as the fire on the freeway burned down families went back to see what was left. the sight so surreal for those out for an early weekend. >> one minute on the beach and next, armageddon.

>> reporter: and a wildfire which moved to fast for people. and crews are making a lot of progress on the fire throughout the night. about 20 miles away, there was another fire that reared up overnight. that one threatening a camp site filled with children. we are talking 300 children evacuated. 130 of those children may be hearing impaired. carson. >> gadi schwartz thank you. dylan what's the weather like in southern california? >> hot and dry and temperatures up around 90 degrees. we have the drought concern across california. we are looking at the winds to stay strong. temperatures up near 90. we are looking at a chance of some showers. a storm system across the pacific. the remnants of tropical storm

delores. we are looking for that to help a bit. in general, we are still looking for the very dry conditions today and temperatures around 90 degrees. sheinelle. dylan, thank you. >> to our other top story. the murders of four u.s. marines thursday in tennessee is raising concerns about the safety of servicemen and women on american soil. on friday, the pentagon ordered a review of the security as we review the attack. we have miguel almaguer in chattanooga. good morning. >> reporter: carson the attack started here and ended miles away and four innocent lives lost and the gunman killed. investigators have no concrete motive as they pore over every inch of the suspect's life. the 24-year-old gold blooded killer. when the fbi says he killed four marines and shot two others. >> because the investigation is

still in its early stages it would be premature to speculate on why the shooter did what he did. >> reporter: he went to high school and college in chattanooga. on the wrestling team and mixed martial fighter. the all american friend according to friends. >> he would say his faith is not a part of his life. >> reporter: many lost touch with abdulazeez. the naturalized u.s. citizen carried two passports making it difficult to track his movements. returning to the u.s. and growing a beard and attending service, investigators say he had no ties to terror groups. >> we have no indication at this time he was inspired by or directed by anyone other than himself. >> reporter: friday the fbi removed evidence from his parents home outside chattanooga. investigators say abdulazeez has a small social media footprint.

review of all procedures across the country. carson. >> miguel almaguer thanks. sean henry is the assistant director of the president of crowd strike services. sean good morning. >> good morning. >> sean, is there any other reason to believe this is an isis inspired incident? >> you have to look at the toe totality of the circumstances. the end of ramadan. the recruiting station. the fact that he has traveled internationally to the middle east. that in and of itself doesn't indicate it is absolutely inspired by isis. you have to wonder if he is in the middle east if he is radicalized. we have not seen a direct correlation to a particular event that would have caused that. him disappearing off the radar for seven months and coming back and some change in personality, i heard from his father in media reports, there was a significant change. that would raise the concern of

the fbi. >> this was a naturalized u.s. citizen from kuwait. how can the u.s. with no warning signs, an outgoing kid in high school on the wrestling team. what can we do to prevent the lone wolf attacks? >> the fbi is looking for some indications. obviously nwe live in a free society. there is a balance of civil liberty and privacy and security. you will not have 100% of both. the fbi cannot monitor everybody who travels internationally. the fbi is looking for some sign. somebody involved in social media that brought to their attention. somebody making violent statements or indicating that they will act against the united states. until that happens, the fbi will not get engaged in the investigation. what they have to do is really rely on the community. community leaders and family members and coworkers. people who see change in behavior that indicates there is a violent tendency and that

brought to law enforcement. the fbi and law enforcement, we're not going to follow everybody. particularly somebody who may become self radicalized and not engaged with a particular group. >> shawn how will the fbi probe the recent trip to the middle east? >> they will work with law enforcement and foreign partners. they will look at u.s. intelligence community to see if some database there an indication. looking at the travel back and forth. people he may have traveled with. that sort of thing. credit card records. they will look at cell phone records. to look for connectivity internationally. this investigation well take a bit of effort. >> shawn henry, thanks for your time. the race for the white house is ramping up with the faceoff in iowa and donald trump surging

the peninsula. 70 in san francisco. meanwhile the peninsula is 79. our hot spot our inland valleys without a doubt. expect temperatures in the mid-80s. the tri-valley will be hot with temperatures near 90 today, but everything changes tomorrow. it's still going to be hot, but it's going to be humid tomorrow and tropical storm dolores moving right this way, so we're going to see tropical moisture tomorrow into monday. we'll talk all about that this morning at 7:00. >> anthony, thanks. right now we begin with a developing story. 1,000 firefighters are battling a massive fire in southern california. you're looking at video from our nbc chopper. the fire has currently burned more than 3500 acres along interstate 15 the main freeway from l.a. to las vegas. southbound 15 remains closed this morning. the fire caused heavy traffic, as you might imagine, since it ignited yesterday afternoon. flames jumped across the freeway, destroying at least four homes, 20 cars and two big rigs. at least two people have been

hurt. as helicopters were making water drops, firefighters helped lead some drivers away from the fire. other drivers were told to stay in their cars and still other people completely abandoned their cars. the chp called nearby tow companies to help clear the freeway of those abandoned cars. about 75 cars were left behind. "i-15" is expected to remain closed until later this morning. i-15 is expected to remain closed until later this morning. nearby homes also have been evacuated. this, by the way, is near victorville about 55 miles north of los angeles. the fire is just 5% contained. 300 homes are threatened. back here in the bay area san jose's allen rock park will reopen this morning following a drug bust yesterday. two men remain on the loose after a massive search from the air and on the ground. deputies scoured the foothills east of the san jose park for an

stuck in traffic. you are frustrated and looking off to the right and seeing a wall of flames barrel straight toward you. that is exactly what happened along the interstate 15. that is what happened when people got out of their cars and ran for their lives. the video is astonishing. we are seeing cars go up in flames one by one. all together about 20 cars and trucks were burned. we saw helicopters trying to put the flames out. we saw five structures burned to the ground. that fire is about 6,500 acres right now. we have seen crews make progress overnight. however, there is another fire we are now monitoring about 20 miles away from here. that fire has caused evacuation of a camp for children where 300 children have now been evacuated. those children many of them,

slaughter has a look at that forecast. >> tomorrow, we'll see an even better day, because we have rain in the forecast. we really could use this rain. it is quite a treat coming in the middle of summer. it's all because of this tropical storm delores, still sitting down near baja but it is spreading showers this way. in fact showers today, for southern california, for us it's still going to be a dry day, but you can see, showers are going to push right up against san diego and los angeles. they have flash flood watches posted down there for palm springs, up through las vegas and arizona. for us it's going to be a dry day, but if you are doing travel to the central coast, down towards socal, even las vegas, expect to see some rain. here at home a dry day today. 84 for the north bay. 70 for san francisco. a little fog there. 86 for the south bay and 90 for the tri-valley today. so kira we'll be watching tropical storm delores. we have a chance for showers. we'll detail that in a bit. >> we'll stay tuned.
