hayward, where a neighborhood is locked down this morning as officers respond to reports of shots fired. >> let's go right to "today in the bay's" bob redell, live in hayward, off of 880. the whiten avenue exit. you talked to neighbor about what happened. what did you learn? >> reporter: good morning. neighbor telling us they heard seven shots fired around 3:00, 3:so, we're in the neighborhood of lion and myrtle, a residential neighborhood. you feel the heavy police presence not only with hayward but california highway patrol and alameda county sheriff's office. this is the report so far, there was a police chase involving a driver, a person in a car, driving erratically, when they got to the location shots fired, possibly hitting the hayward police officer. as you saw in the video we put up on the tv screen, you did see somebody being put into an ambulance, where w. that was the officer or someone else, that is not clear. here what happens a neighbor

september. sadness and tears, questions this morning in walnut creek. two young people who many describe among the best and brightest academically, both dead in apparent murder/suicide. police got a call of shots fired in the homestead neighborhood in walnut creek. police found two dead people at front door of the house. >> indications that it's a murder/suicide between a 19-year-old female victim and 21-year-old male suspect that she had been in a dating relationship with. >> the 19-year-old shooting victim is claire orton, she was home for summer break after finishing her fir year at san diego state. study ing environmental engineering and on the dean's list. her alleged shooter, 21-year-old scott bertics, graduated from high school in 2012 and enrolled in stanford. a pit bull in san francisco's recovering from two gunshot wounds after a confrontation between that animal and federal police

officer ended in gunfire. u.s. mint police officer shot a pit bull named blue yesterday morning. happened a block away from the mint. the dog's owner says two pit bulls accidentally got out. an officer shot one of the dogs when he started acting aggressively on herman street. blue's owner says the 1-year-old dog is not aggressive. >> it's hard for me not to be angry about it. i have to try to be forgiving and try to understand from his perspective, he may have been scared. >> one of the bullets hit a neighbor's house. blue may lose his right rear leg but expected to survive. san francisco police are now taking over this investigation. warning now to people living in los altos, crooks pretending to be water utility workers are talking their way inside of homes and then burglarizing them. the men showed up at two homes monday, claiming the water

supply contaminated due to nearby construction. once inside they ran faucets as a distraction and police say one of the homeowners only realized that he had been burglarized once the men left. call police if you recognize the suspects. police are looking for a man who stole a porsche from a valai in san francisco. it happened monday in a lot near spear and harrison streets in the city's soma neighborhood. a valet confronted a man leaning against the carp the man lifted a shirt, revealing a handgun in his waistband. the man took off in the car. san francisco city leaders are moving forward with a controversial plan to build a new jail right in the downtown area. last night, the board of supervisors voted to request an $80 million grant from the state to help build that new facility. the jail would replace aging fasts on the top floor of the hall of justice on bryant street. supporters include sheriff and says the change is necessary

because the old jail is not seismically safe. but opponents say that money should be spent on programs to reduce the jail population instead. 5:05. a critical one for the on again, off again labor deal involving thousands of workers. workers revote on a tentative deal reached earlier in the month. talks came down to the wire before both sides reached an agreement. then came the vote, which workers shot down. that's when the union indicates some members weren't fully informed what they were voting for. employees have been on the job ever since but with a no-vote today, all bets are off. a giant step forward could repair the relationship between the city of san jose and its firefighters. yesterday firefighters overwhelmingly approved a pension proposal. as we previously reported, the two sides reached a deal last week. it revamped the pension structure set up after the measure reform which was enacted

by voters. >> this ends the divisiveness, it ends the antagonism, ends division in san jose. >> the san jose city council can finalize this deal when it meets in two weeks. the police union has yet to vote on its proposed deal. >> residents facing imminent eviction in san francisco planning on protesting later today. members of a community art space in the mission district, an area that right now is undergoing serious redevelopment. the art space called cell space, slated for demolition to make way for new development that includes a $250 unit apartment complex into parents lost their battle to keep a popular preschool in its current location we'd told you about the effort to save kids club preschool. it lost the lease with the antioch school district and today is moving day. some 300 children attend the school. it's the biggest state-sponsored preschool in the area.

store. a warning -- some may find this a clerk in texas fought or his life as robbers tore apart his store, warning some might finding this video disturbing to watch. shows the clerk struggle with one of the robbers. the robber shoots the clerk in the shoulder. police say the robber hit the clerk over the face with his gun before all three suspects ran out of the store. one robber collapsed in a nearby field where police arrested him. two others remain on the run this morning. the clerk is expected to be okay. this in texas. but the warning still the same, don't put up a fight, police say. >> video so disturbing. thank you. 5:26. neighbors say you have to see it to believe it. even then some people had a hard time believing it. people in a milwaukee neighborhood say they spotted what looks like a lion on the loose and that does kind of look like a lion. officers checked the neighborhood for several hours but didn't find anything. one woman captured that big cat

we are here outside eden medical center's emergency room where earlier i did see a large group of police officers, substantial number at least, maybe eight or so, with that officer -- possible officer-involved shooting be the victim may be a police officer. we haven't seen this kind of presence when it is not a law enforcement officer. i saw a couple of hayward police patrol cars as well as sheriff's patrol car, hayward fire battalion chief as well as fire engine and chp just rolled up. i asked officer if anyone was talking and he said he wasn't aware because he just arrived at the scene. i do want to mention that this is the closest hospital to the crime scene you just saw bob at in hayward. but this is also the designated level ii trauma center for south and southeastern portion of alameda county which means it has possibility of treating severe and potentially life-threatening injuries.

happened yesterday in west san jose near anderson elementary school. police say they don't know what sparked the confrontation but that when both drivers pulled up to a stop sign in the neighborhood, one driver started shooting at the other. police say the bullets then hit a man who was on the sidewalk and uninvolved. he is expected to survive. a trio of irish law firms reportedly stepping in to help families and survivors of last month's deadly berkeley balcony collapse. the firms are working with families on a pro bono basis to line up bay area based personal injury and personal death law firms. all claims and representation must be handled by attorneys from the united states. the collapse killed six irish students one who lived in the bay area permanently, seven others injured. uc berkeley campus police on high alert after a string of burglaries. burglars are smashing windows and stealing computers on campus. the burglars have hit 20

dealership in north brunswick new jersey. the warehouse is as big as 50 football fields. for hours now heavy blames and thick, black smoke have been pouring from the building which is used by toyota for vehicle repair and storage. that smoke can be seen for miles even as far away as manhattan which is more than 30 miles from that location. luckily no reports right now of injuries. neighbors say you have to see it to believe it and even then some people had a tough time believing it. people in a milwaukee neighborhood say they spotted what looks luke a lion on the loose. look at those movements, long stretched out. >> kitty cat. >> large kitty cat. officers checked the neighborhood for several hours, didn't turn anything up. one woman captured the big cat on video yesterday. >> looked at it and said, i think this is a lion. then of course your heart skips a beat and you think, goodness, this is something serious.
