>> good morning. happy friday. it's in the upper 50s, nice and cool as you head out, 57 degrees it in the peps lpeninsula, san francisco waking up into the lower 60s and some clouds starting to move if in. heading into the day just like yesterday it was gorgeous. 73 degrees in the east bay will be the high today, peninsula 77 and the south bay 81 degrees. san francisco reaching 67 degrees and 82 degrees in the fort bay. while the tri-valley today tops out in the mid 80s. a lot of sunshine today that continues into the weekend as temperatures start to climb and it gets very hot as we head into next week. i will are more on that coming up in the microclimate forecast in a few minutes. let's get a look at the roads with mike. good morning. it is friday so we expect a lighter volume of traffic but over in dublin you still have all the folks traveling westbound through the construction area that you typically see. we have no surprises as we look at your map. a smooth drive around the

tri-valley and the rest of your bay as traffic flows around the bay. we could learn what's next for the man accused of killing a hayward police officer. this afternoon mark estrada is going to face a judge for the first time since that deadly shooting earlier this week. as he heads to court more details are emerging about the investigation. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live at the santa rita county jail where estrada is going held this morning. good morning. >> reporter: kris and sam, police transfers mark estrada to the santa rita county jail around 9:00 last night after oakland hospital finished treating him for at least one gunshot wound he received in his encounter with hayward police wednesday morning. later today at 2 estrada a 21-year-old man from oakland will make his first appearance in court where we expect he will be formally charged in the murder of scott lunger. police say estrada shot and killed sergeant lunger without warning during a traffic stop.

estrada was hurt when sergeant lunger's partner fired back at him. estrada's mother tells our sister station that he is a good son with a good heart. here is with a his family attorney this to tell us yesterday. >> they ask that no judgment be passed until the entire case is before a court of law. >> reporter: hayward police would like you to take a look at this surveillance video and see if you recognize the sed tan that's pulling into that driveway. this vehicle was recorded am mr. chairman's oakland neighborhood shortly after the murder of sergeant lunger in hayward. again, this was early wednesday morning. hayward police would like to speak with the driver of that car. officers won't say why, but they feel that that person could play a significant role in their investigation. reporting live here in dublin, bob redell, "today in the bay." now to a developing story overnight in louisiana. a gunman opened tire at a movie theater killing three people and

wounding nine other people before then killing himself. we now know several of the victims are in critical condition this morning. the victims range in age from the late teens to their 60s. police say the suspected shooter is a 58-year-old man. investigators are not yet releasing his name but a bomb squad is investigating suspicious materials found inside his car. we've also learned that the fbi is joining in that investigation. louisiana governor bobby jindal met with families in the hospital. he says one teacher leaped to protect another, possibly saving her life, and a second managed to pull the fire alarm to alert others in the theater. >> this has never happened anywhere but you certainly never imagine -- we never imagined it would lap in louisiana and in lafayet lafayette. the shooting comes as a jury decides whether james holmes should be put to death for the theater shooting in aurora,

colorado. the shooter in louisiana does have a criminal history, but nothing in recent years. we are learning right now more about the knife wielding man shot by fremont police earlier in the week. fremont police say troy francis threatened and chased two women that he lived with inside of their home when officers got to the house they say that francis charged at them with that knife. both officers then shot francis. he is now recovering in the hospital. the officers were not hurt. now to a tragic scene out of vallejo where police are investigating a murder suicide. neighbors tell us they heard several is gunshots coming from a home on songwood drive. when officers arrived at the found one man shot at the front door. he is now at the hospital with life-threatening injuries and inside the home they found another man and woman shot dead. neighbors tell us there were several children living in that home. >> fortunately from what i know no kids were hurt, but sadly there were kids in the house

when this happened. >> investigators are not releasing the names of the victims. they are also not saying who pulled the trigger. a big break this morning in a deadly shooting in the south bay recently. police now say they have made two arrests. this happened june 26th in east san jose near tear land avenue and pensacola drive. the victim is 17-year-old jonathan zeranio. he died at the scene. two men from san jose aged 18 and 21 are now facing murder charges. investigators say one of the two opened fire after some sort of argument. happening right now, a wildfire still raging near lake berryessa is growing. this as crews enter a third day of trying to fight those flames back. ouss of acres are charred and the fire still only 15% contained. right now it is burning off highway 128 and there are mandatory evacuations still in effect for some people who live in that area. "today in the bay" stephanie chuang is live at the incident command post with the latest numbers. good morning, steph.

>> reporter: we are at the new cal fire command post in vacaville, 20 miles south of where we were before. you can see where firefighters have to check in. we are told they moved here at 10:00 last night. you get the sense there is progre progress, that the numbers are much better than they were before. the acreage still at 6,900 but that's roughly the same as noon yesterday. weather has certainly helped. it's still a big wildfire, containment just at 15% and almost 1,400 firefighters and personnel out here. that blooped from 500 yesterday morning. since wednesday afternoon the start of the fire firefighters have struggled with the steep rugged terrain. thankfully no other structures have burned, still just that one barn destroyed and one house damaged. cal fire says it is not letting up on attack. >> we are not taking any chances with the percent contained. we still have a lot of open line to build. we are not taking any chances.

>> reporter: this is heavily dependent on air support. yesterday they used four air tankers and 13 helicopters. those are ground overnight because it is dark. good progress means some evacuations have been lifted for the golden bear area, although there are still some homes threatene threatened. we are also polling this fire ripping through south lake tahoe. right now highway 50 is closed as crews battle the flames. about 100 acres are burning on both sides of the highway near sly park road and west of myers. a campground in the area is under evacuation as well. firefighters say the flames are only 5% contained this morning. ironically the cause of this this fire might be the same as the cause of the napa county fire. investigators are looking at a video of a truck that lost a wheel and then caught fire on the side of the road. this is not a good start to our tire season here.

we are in the midst of the fire season. let's check in with meteorologist kari hall who says there are some heat or hot conditions, kari, lurking right now after the weekend. >> yes. it starts to heat up next week so it will be harder to get a lot of these wildfires under control, but right now conditions are favorable. looking at the fire, the wragg fire, the current conditions there, 57 degrees and humidity at 85%. only a light southwesterly wind. as the bay wake up this morning it's 60 degrees in livermore, napa 52 degrees, san francisco at 59 degrees and half-moon bay at 58 degrees. highs today will be a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday but still absolutely gorgeous outside and very comfortable. campbell look for a high of 81 degrees, pacifica 68, outer sunset 64 degrees and also some 70s and 80s elsewhere across the bay. 71 in oakland and san ramone today a high of 84 degrees. we've been talking about a warm up. i will have more on that. what to expect this weekend that's coming up in a few

minutes. let's see how traffic a moving. >> we will start with the san mateo bridge right over my shoulder. we typically have one lane closed eastbound and that's what we see this morning. it this morning it is the left lane as you are approaching. as we look at your map you don't see any slowing eastbound with the arrow pointing over toward the hayward side. the rest of your bay moves nicely. over on the right out of tracie a little slowing just below 60 starting that morning commute. and this friday especially heading down in toward gilroy you might smell it in the hair, there's something big coming, oh, yeah, i will hand it off to you. we are ready to -- >> get our stink on. we're heading to the gilroy garlic festival to see what is cooking it this weekend. >> and hold it. that is what san francisco is telling people who are thinking about urinating in public, but it's what happens if they don't hold it that's the shocker.

week. that line runs between tibber man's wharf and the cal train station. the city last ran that e line in 1947. what is art? it depends on who you ask in oakland. that's where a legal battle is brewing over a is it city order fans requiring art installations for new projects. developers are suing calling it unconstitutional. the city passed the measure requiring up to 1% of development costs be used for on site art. while you are out in public watch where you pee. san francisco fighting back against people -- or don't watch -- who urinate on city streets. it's a slashy new idea. the public works department is installing liquid repellant pain. here is a taste of how it works. >> when people urinate on the

q to you. wall street looks to get back to its winning days after the markets fell for a third straight day. the dow falling back into the red and it's on its longest losing streak in more than six weeks. futures are higher thanks to amazon, starbucks and others. investors will get data on new home sales. the dow falling 119 points to 17,739. watch shares of amazon today, they soared in after hours trading as the online retailer reported a surprise quarrel profit on a big boost from cloud computing and amazon prime thanks in part to the recent prime day event. that move adding $40 billion to the market value pushing it past walmart to become the biggest u.s. retailer. >> comcast is on the hunt holding talk on potential deals including investments and acquisitions.

the wall street journal says the parent of nbc universal has talks with buzzfeed and others as it looks it to appeal to younger consumers who aren't watching as much traditional tv. apple right now is spreading its branches in silicon valley. the mercury news reporting that apple has leased two large office buildings in santa clara. the buildings are south of highway 237 close to levi stadium. they would accommodate as many as 1,600 workers. apple has not commented publicly on that expansion. uber is hoping to bring a few more smiles to san francisco today. the ride sharing service will be clifrg ice cream on demand in the city. all you have to do is open the uber app, set your location and request ice cream. a driver will deliver three twins ice cream right to you where you are. the service is available from 3:00 -- rather 11 this morning to 5:00 this evening. it will cost you $5.

we are on a warming trend. yesterday was just way too nice. now as we go into early next week, we are going to see those temperatures trending more toward the 80s along the coast, 90s inland and reaching well over 100 degrees for the tri-valley. and that happens for the middle of next week, so enjoy this weekend while it's still cool. the kite festival in berkeley will be happening tomorrow and we will have highs reaching 73 degrees on saturday, again on sunday 74 degrees with sunshine. also at levi stadium we have some football going on in the lower 70s at 11:00 in the morning and during the afternoon into the lower 80s. this weekend a look at all of the microclimates, what to expect, highs in the 70s and 80s, san francisco seeing highs in the upper 60s. morning typical clouds and a lot of sunshine during the afternoon. i will have another look at the microclimate forecast coming up. two bay area athletes are

hoping to swim into the history books by attempting an unprecedented feat. they are trying to swim 30 miles through shark-infested waters from the golden gate bridge to the faralon islands and doing it without wet suits. the bay area news group reports that simon damingus is going to make his attempt next week and kim came percent of san francisco hopes to be the first woman to complete that swim when she tries august 8th. the swim has been completed just four times and only in the opposite direction. speaking of shark-infested waters this is a map showing the last 100 years of shark attacks if the bay area and it looks like, yeah, all up and down the coast there. there has only been one deadly attack in the recorded history of our region. the san francisco chronicle posted this map online. statewide only ten people have been killed by sharks since 1926. a leopard at school and it was no school mascot. what happened when that big cat

>> announcer: you're watching "today in the bay." welcome back. we are coming up right now on 4:55 on your friday morning. a nice look outside right now of the bay bridge. folks getting that last commute of the week out of the way. a chaotic scene unfolded in southern india as a leopard made its way through a school. this video shows the roaring feline into the school. a school official suffered injuries when it bounced on him when he got too close. a team of vets with tranquilizers showed up. today we could get a closer look at pluto, more images on their way. members of nasa's team will give us an update this afternoon and will release the photos. they are also expected to discuss the latest results from the spacecraft's flight through

the pluto system earlier this month. last week the spacecraft flew past pluto about 7,800 miles from its service is. which is close in space talk. >> it's all relative. it looks nice and bumpy. we would like something much smoother as we head out the roadways. some of the bay area free ways do have a lot of the potholes as well. we are looking at one of them that has constant repair work and sweeper work during the middle of the day. this is 880 by the coliseum. right now we have that steady flow right at the speed limit. a's are going to be across town at the giant's home, tonight's game at 7:15, i believe, and that should be after work traffic and a lot of folks heading into the city on a friday as well they will be competing in that same area. looking over toward the rest of the bay, a smooth drive right now. no big slowing out of the altamonte pass and no problems through the construction area heading toward hayward on the san mateo bridge.
