be hot. today, for the too bad. temperatures in the 70s and 80s. that's comfortable weather. this is a shot from san francisco. a little fog burning off here. sunshine north bay peninsula, tri-valley. temperatures starting off nice and mild. it's a warm day. 70 degrees for san francisco later on today with plenty of sunshine. 84 for north bay, east bay at 73, tri-valley 86, today south bay reaches in the low 80s after past couple of days. only 70s but we are in a warming trend today. big warming heads our way wednesday. triple digit heat for inland valley. brace yourself. we'll detail all that coming up. >> we will stay tuned. anthony, thanks. we begin first this morning breaking news happening in the east bay. san leandro police are investigating a deadly shooting on 880. it happened around 1:00 this morning at marina boulevard

off-ramp in san leandro. that's where the california highway patrol ponding to a multi-car crash. then they heard gunshots nearby and discovered a body on the marina boulevard overpass. san leandro police are investigating this as a homicide. they are actively searching for shooter. >> in incidents of this magnitude, local police and jurisdiction does take over. in this case it is san leandro. we do that because of the fact we have detectives especially trained to investigate major incidents. >> northbound 880 between marina and davis street closed six hours. those lanes opened just a while ago. now to a developing story in san jose where police are investigating a drive-by shooting that left an elderly man dead. it happened at woodbridge mobile home park, a retirement community in east san jose. it's north of highway 101 and east capital expressway. san jose police responded after 5:30 last night and found a man

dead in the street. witnesses say they saw a gray compact car racing from the area with several people inside. residents of the over 55 community are in disbelief. >> shock, just shock that something like that would happen in the park here. it's all senior citizens mostly that live here. >> police are still searching for that gray compact car and the shooter. neighbors tell us they think the victim was in his 60s and that he would often go for walks around that mobile home park. a 3-month-old baby boy is back home with his mother this morning after he was abducted yesterday. police responded to a possible kidnapping yesterday afternoon on the 100 block of boyson street in vallejo. witnesses say these two men forcibly took the infant from his grandfather. police tracked down the men and the infant in oakland. the men identified as 24-year-old john brumsfield and 24-year-old michael jones.

police say brumsfield was dating the baby's mother but not the father. the men are under arrest and the baby was not injured. a popular bay area teacher recently profiled by "the new york times" is missing. his friends and family are now reaching out to nbc bay area. ed cavanaugh disappeared one week ago near placerville. he left for a dirt bike ride near his cabin where he rents. cavanaugh is an avid outdoorsman and always diabetic needing medication. he's a teacher at a downtown high school. he heads a program that teaches students wilderness schools. the eldorado county sheriff's office is actively searching for him. the investigation into the sexual assault of a teen, a 16-year-old girl may have been assaulted by this man, her personal trainer, william

mccowan. they also tell us this may have been happening for two years, since she was 14. police say he was a self-employed fitness trainer who works from his milpitas home. he was arrested after the victim's parents reported the alleged assault. police are asking and investigating trying to fend out if there are more victims. >> one victim identified. he has a personal training business called professional training. if you're a customer of his and assaulted, feel free to come forward to the police department. >> he reportedly spent a lot of time in the south bay and known for coaching across the bay area. hayward police officers came face-to-face with the man accused of killing one of their own. rows of grieving officers and the family of sergeant lunger packed into a courtroom when shooting suspect mark estrada formally heard the charges

against him. also there strad, a family who held onto each other. the 21-year-old oakland man accused of shooting the officer early wednesday during a traffic stop. >> devastated for the whole thing, devastated for the officer who passed away. i'm devastated for my son. >> prosecutors produced enough evidence against estrada to file special circumstance murder charges. that makes him eligible for the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. court documents provide more details in the shooting. police found blood on the driver's seat of estrada's truck along with two empty 9 millimeter bullet casings on the floorboard. they found a 9 millimeter gun near the crime scene. police also recovered more of the same type of ammunition and casings at estrada's house. surveillance video of that home shows three people arriving shortly after the shooting. one of them limping. estrada ended up at a hospital

with investigators say he admitted to doctors he was shot in the driver's seat of his car but would not answer when asked who shot him. now to another officer who died in the line of duty. this time a guilty verdict for the man accused of killing that vallejo police officer. yesterday a jury convicted henry smith jr. of shooting the officer after a 2011 bank robbery. a verdict four years in the making, the deliberations plagued with problems. four jurors had to be replaced, including one whom the judge accused of being biased against police. the jury had to restart deliberations three times. now the jury must decide if smith jr. should face the death penalty. a disturbing picture is emerging of the gunman who opened fire inside a louisiana movie theater on thursday. investigators say 59-year-old john russell houser was an outspoken right wing extremist with a violent past. in the 1990s, he railed against

everything from abortion to working women on talk shows. recently he praised hitler and kkk on the message board. his family asked for a protective order in 2008 because of a history of mental issues. based on houser's car parked near the theater exit and disguises found in his motel room, his original plan was to escape. >> the police department is trying to find something that says why did he walk in that theater. >> why he chose lafayette for his rampage remains a mystery. houser killed two women and injured nine others before turning the gun on himself. animal rights activists don't typically hit the fbi's radar but an oakland man and woman were among fbi's most wanted of the two are now arrested on terrorism charges for allegedly staging attacks at businesses across the country to

it's 7:10 right now. look at the sun shining over san jose. we have sunny skies across the bay area on this mild morning. a warm saturday and an even warmer sunday ahead. a bit of relief this morning. evacuation orders have been lifted for about 50 homes that have been threatened by the wildfire near lake berryesa. it was reopened shortly after 5:00 last night. people who lived in the area headed home to get a look at the damage done. >> the fire went around the house. we had 100 foot setback like cal fire told us to do. we had buckets out and water and they took care of us. >> since wednesday it burned 7,000 acres of the most active part in a mountain range, remote area several miles from the highway. a downward spiral for one of

millimeter hackable cars. chrysler recalled after a magazine exposed the vulnerability. the magazine demonstrated how two hackers could remotely take control of the vehicle from miles away and crash it in a ditch. the 1.4 million vehicles involved in the recall include dodge, jeep, ram and chrysler. no specific risk of models was released but customers must contact fiat chrysler to get their software update. a popular fishing and tourist spot is closed this weekend. an inspection determined it is isn't safe. here is michelle roberts. >> reporter: the city says more tests are needed. they are arriving to see this sign and caution tape public notification saying this pier is not safe for people. it was built in the 50s but a portion rebuilt in the 80s. city officials say there is crumbling concrete and corroded support beams. engineers are trying to figure out the best way to repair this

sunny everywhere across the bay. once we get rid of low clouds in san francisco, east bay, everywhere else sunshine and comfortable temperature. later this afternoon, warm up to 70 in san francisco after being in the 60s for the past couple of days. a little warmer for the north bay as well. 73 for east bay. tri-valley close to 90 degrees. today back into the 90s tomorrow. warming trends under way in the south bay today. temperatures back in the low 80s after yesterday only being in the 70s. of course the giants and a's taking on second game. 1:05 first pitch, close to 70 lots of sunshine at at&t park, breezy towards the end of the game with temperatures in the 60s. you just talked about gilroy garlic festival. today and tomorrow 9:00 to 5:00, temperatures will be warm, one of our warmest locations, 88, a little cooler tomorrow with marine layer reinforced, 86 for your high tomorrow. now, as we take you to the

beach, because it is going to be comfortable this weekend, get out in the open waters. 69 for pacific, 72 half moon bay. move to santa cruz, one of our warmest locations, temperatures at 75. get this, talking about a 10 degree jump in temperatures by the middle perfect of the week. you can see seven-day forecast in the bottom of the screen. santa cruz, for instance, 85 degrees come tuesday and wednesday. if you've got the days off, you know where you want to go. talk about the big picture. high pressure in control of most of our weather. that will heat up. tomorrow and monday, a similar pattern. 60s at the coastline, 70s for most of the bay, then a few 80s for inland valleys. look at this, as we head tuesday and wednesday, heat really starts to inundate bay area. talking about 80s at the coastline, san francisco, half moon bay, santa cruz, entire coastline warm up to the 80s. inner cities, over the bay,

"today in the bay" garvin thomas has this morning's bay area proud. >> she said she would one day love to find a way important her art to become more than a hobby. now, to do that she's going to have to sell a lot of it, which is why what she started doing earlier this summer as strange. it struck us as a perfect bay area proud. when life gets a little too stressful, a person is lucky to have a happy place to go to. even luckier when, like lindsey that place is as close as your mom's backyard. >> i found art to be my therapy, get in the studio and the only thing that matters is me picking out color and composition and all of a sudden i'm happy again.

by a shark. they were diving off tasmania, where a 15 foot great white hark was recently seen. police say the woman returned to their boat with scallops the two collected. she became concerned when her father had not surfaced after her. she took action as fast as she could but it was too late. >> she immediately returned to the surface where she raised the alarm through setting off a flair and making an emergency phone call. >> the victim was in his late 40s. the last fatal attack off the australian coast was back in february. there have now been multiple mountain lion sightings in san mateo county. the most recent thursday night. a mountain line spotted in la honda second time it was seen there. reported in the hills of redwood city and woodside. you remember back in may this mountain lion caused quite a scare in downtown san mateo. the animal was eventually

tranquilized and taken back into the hills. if you come across a mountain lion, experts say don't run, you're supposed to make yoursel look bigger by waving your hands and arms. well, squirrels may be small but they are doing big damage near a south bay creek. the santa clara water district says ground squirrels are burrowing along san jose's creek damaging levees and embankments. it could cost 3 to $5 million to repair damage so far. crews say they want to do repairs as soon as possible because of the threat of major flooding from el nino this winter. >> we think that this channel, because of the flash channel it rises and recedes in a quick channel, is most accessible to such rain events. >> repair work said to begin in august. now to a bay area father fuming after an umpire threw his son out of a critical playoff game moments after the boy got

the winning hit. the umpire's decision may have cost the team a trip to the little league world series. here is damien trujillo. arguably the best plir on the field. at 12 years old jake delanie is turning heads in lafayette. he's still thinking about his game winning hit and what it cost him. on wednesday his teammates poured onto the field to celebrate when jake threw his helmet out of sheer happiness. that's when the first base umpire rushed in toward home base and threw him out of the game. that ejection meant he would not be able to play in thursday's deciding game, a game where jake was scheduled to be starting pitcher for lafayette against san leandro valley. >> a shame it came down to this. >> reporter: jake's father can't understand the reason for the ejection. >> for boys to celebrate like that and to be penalized, it's just outrageous. i don't know how any rational person could penalize somebody

welcome back, saturday. we've got fog, it will burn off quickly, quicker than it has. it's going to be the same deal for today. looking at lots of cloud cover at least for the first hav of the day. south bay peninsula cleared out. temperatures very comfortable this morning, close to 60 degrees in many locations. later on this afternoon highs 80s for south bay. peninsula near 80 degrees. a few upper 70s, low 80s. 70 for east bay and san francisco. 70 north bay, 84 today and hot spot usually the tri-valley, close to 90 today. no big surprise there. it's going to be sunny everywhere you go across the bay, especially the fog in san francisco. leads me to this, gilroy garlic festival. talking about it all morning
