and thanks so much for joining us today. the nfl is up holding his four game suspension. they say brady had his cell phone destroyed before investigators could review it. that's the theme of this morning's daily news. go to cell. sacking brady's appeal. >> reporter: six months after it blew up into a major sports scandal, deflate-gate appears headed to even more controversy. roger goodell upheld the four-game suspension. they say the quarterback destroyed his cell phone and nearly 10 thousand text messages, putting the ball in the hands of the player's association. >> today's revelations, i think, are definitely a bomb shell. it might not be deeming from a legal sense, but from public perception, that is quite possibly the death now for tom brady. >> reporter: he concluded that brady was generally aware that

rules. and that was nbc's ron mot reporting. well, we're learning new details about how two murderers were able to break out of prison last month. and joyce mitchell plead guilty yesterday. and nbc news has learned more about the plot, the news and the plan to kill mitchell's husband. nbc's john yang has the details. >> reporter: with a tearful signature, joyce mitchell accepted a plea deal saying she smuggled hacksaws and other tools into the prison for convicted killers david matt, and richard sweat. who the da says used them to escape. >> she's been very upset and remorseful for what she did. >> reporter: before her arrest, she spoke over forty hours over four days. nbc obtained a copy of those and

now he's facing criminal tress passing charges from the zoo. they're geriatric and used to being round people but the barriers are there for a reason. and now to another story of a big cat drawing national outrage. an iconic and beloved lion living indiana -- in a national park was killed by an american dentist. now that man is defending himself. matt reports. >> reporter: he was the pride of zimbabwe's big cats with a recognizable black main, he was a tourist favorite, but earlier this month, he was killed. lured from the safety of a game preserve. hit first with a bow and arrow, finished off 40 hours later with a gun, then skinned, his head removed. the killing has sparked global out rage.

>> we're killing them for spot and we know that they're threatened with extinction. animal in fierce decline. >> reporter: the man is a dentist from minnesota. a life long hunter. he says he hired professional guides and that they secured all proper permits. adding, i had no idea the lion i took was a known local favorite. but they say two men with palmer have been charge would poaching. this is where most of us get up close to the big cats at the zoo but some hunters are willing to pay thousands for the chance to kill one on a safari. some say he paid as much as $54,000. i deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity i love resulted in the taking of this lion and adds he will cooperate with any investigation.
