let's check the forecast. . >> good morning, as z we start out we're enjoying nice mild weather. not a lot going on. a couple degrees cooler than yesterday. right now in san francisco, it's 64 degrees starting out the day in the north bay. and in the lower 60s elsewhere across the bay. look at the highs this afternoon. south bay, 83 degrees. sunshine, a nice breeze and upper 70s for the e peninsula. 73 degrees in president trivalley. and san francisco, expect a high of 68. the north bay reaches 83. we'll talk more about what to expect coming up in a few minutes. let's e see how traffic is moving this morning with mike. >> looking at the bay bridge, it's a smooth. drive. a little more traffic over the weekend. we'll look at the oakland camera. you should see trains coming through any time. currently in service now, no problems for the reopening this

morning. no problems over the water either. look at that other side of the bay. we see all of the map is green. that's groan for go. we begin with breaking news. police swarming an area of oakland. this this after an officer-involved shooting. in the past ten minutes, police were involved in a shootout in the streets near the bart station. officers showed up to the area for a man armed with a rifle. police say the gunman shot an officer and two officers returned fire hitting and killing the gunman. they rushed the officer to the hospital. the officer is in stable condition and recovering. all of this happening at mlk jr. way. we'll have an update in 30 minutes. now to a developing story. the state of california up in flames this morning. firefighters are battling more than a dozen fires. the biggest is the rocky fire.

it's about 100 miles north of san francisco. thousands of firefighters are on the front lines battling these flames that have grown. out of control. it's roughly the size of seattle with little containment in sight. rocky fire destroyed 2 dozen homes with 6,000 more threatened. it's forced 12,000 people to evacuate. dry conditions are making matters worse. >> it's an unbelievable number. it shows how dry conditions are and how fast and rapid fires are able to burn under these types of conditions. >> 27 from the fire department. two strike teams are also fighting the rocky fire. we're going to monitor the progress throughout the morning. chris sanchez will have an update in the next half hour. >> we're also going to have

wildfire coverage on our app. we're updating information there as well as facebook and twitter. san francisco police asking for the public's help catching the gunman in a deadly triple shooting. it happened 11:00 saturday night in the city's western edition neighborhood. one of the victims in the shooting is dead. two others have survived. police have yet to released a motive or a suspect description. new this morning, the search is on for a renter who burglarized the home she was staying in. it was all caught on surveillance video, which is what you're looking at now. this woman stole more than $35,000 worth of merchandise from the home on 27th avenue in the city's sunset district. anyone with information is asked to please call police. san francisco police are also investigating this car burglary. police say the rear window of the rental car was smashed and

the thooef stole $15,000 worth of medical devices. a man and woman are seen on video at the scene. . about eight days later they arrested the man but they are still looking for the woman. if you know where she is, call police. this morning a former south bay elementary schoolteacherer is expected to plead guilty for molesting four students. since then three more victims have come forward and there are likely more. lloyd was a teach r at paradise valley elementary school. he was also a youth leader in the south bay. he's facing 40 years in prison. one of the south bay's leading lawmakers continues. mike honda is going to speak later today in san jose about his efforts to protect human

trafficking victims. he authored a bill called the human trafficking empowerment act which president obama signed into law earlier in the year. the congressman is going to talk about the bill this afternoon at the sheriffs auditorium on younger avenue. today transportation leaders are discussing relieving some of the transit crunch. that has the city looking at commute alternative options. experts will discuss that tonight at community hall. the travel detour is finally over this morning. ridership on the san francisco bay ferry nearly doubled over the weekend. . that because of bart's closure of the transbay 2. despite the packed buss and ferries, leaders say it was essentially smooth sailing. crews finished all the work they

have to do. the entire project is not quite complete. there's another closure over labor day weekend. now to a mystery on a bay area beach. a third dead whale washed ashore over the last several months. scientists are trying to figure out why. >> we're learning neighbors are very concerned. >> reporter: that's right, concern for different reasons. more so that something is going on wl whales. the latest one washed up on the rocks. the reports started coming in yesterday at 6:30 when people saw this 33-foot young humpback male. they found injuries consistent with blunt force two other whales washed up in recent months, but experts say it has more to do with the big numbers of live whales in the waters nearby.

>> these are not related. in the last two weeks, there's been lots of sightings of live humpback whales and live blue whales feeding in the hundreds. so we know they are here. >> reporter: the lst to wash up was in may. just a couple weeks before that it was a 48-foot whale that washed up nearby. as for the latest, the city is working on a plan to remove the carcus as soon as possible. the question still remains what killed the whale. we'll have answers in the next half hour. stephanie chuang, today in the bay. >> did you notice her blowing in the wind there this morning? >> people are going to be concerned about that. >> let's check the forecast with meteorologi

meteorologist kari hall. >> livermore at 66 degrees. 61 in napa. san francisco, this is close to the average buy hie but don't expect temperatures to rise much from here into the afternoon. those highs will still be in the upper 60s. and nice little on shore flow. that will not back temperatures and keep us with the cool ocean breeze. at times the winds picking up to 15 to 20 miles per hour. here we are at 5:00 and we see the winds coming in from the west. and highs today reaching 82 degrees. san francisco, upper 60s. . north bay in the 70s. walnut creek, 81 degrees. temperatures are not out of control. in fact, this is about what we can expect through the rest of the week. i'll have a look at the rest of the forecast coming up in a few minutes. let's get a look at photographic with mike. >> looking at the bay bridge toll plaza, a smooth drive.

senate showdown over federal aid to planned parenthood. lawmakers will be voting on stopping money for aid. other providers could cover the clients. they say they serve low income women that have no other alternative. the latest battle after a series of videos came out recently focusing attention on providing fetal tissue to researchers. vote in. the november election and be a part of history. it's the first county in california to hold an election with no physical polling places. instead all the ballots will be mailed in. it's part of a program signed into law last year. officials hope to mail in election will increase voter participation while saving the county around $1 million. parents surely know there's no secret. the cost of college tuition is going up and up. textbook prices are skyrocketing

friday's job report which could be a key indicator of whether the fed will start raising interest rates. look for economic data on personal income and spending and manufacturing. on friday the dow fell 56 points. the nasdaq slipping also. puerto rico is set to default on debt as they missed a bond payment. reporters are told they have no money. puerto rico is trying to restructure their debt. a default would be the highest profile since detroit, which was $1.5 billion bond payment before filing for bankruptcy. more than half of bond funds have some exposure to puerto rico. and a new offer day was a closing its takeover of directv. high definition tv for up to four rooms. and unlimited talk and text along with 10 gigabytes of data

68 there. as we get a look now this morning, you can see traffic moving across the bay bridge. the north bay is at 83 degrees or will be this afternoon. we do have the low clouds and fog. they will clear out fairly quickly except for the western parts of the city in san francisco right at noon you see the low clouds. there will be some more clearing elsewhere across the bay and the clouds move right back in. that's the way we'll start tomorrow as well with the morning clouds and patchy fog in spots. low visibility as you head out for work in the morning. temperature wise in san francisco, we will see the temperatures right at noon at 65 degrees in haze valley. our high today in the upper 60s with a mixture of sun and clouds and a nice breeze there. a cool day. in the trivalley, a warming trend. we'll be in the 60s and 70s z

across the bay. a few 80s in the south bay as as well as the north bay. 4:50 on your monday. in the midst of the historic drought they have a solution to keep it green from turning brown. operators at the gulf course plan on spending up to $10 billion. that would be a lot. $10 million to build their own sewage plant. that plant would deliver up to a half million gallons of recycled water per day, significantly more than the course needs to stay green. many courses utilize recycled water, but most of them get it delivered in public pipes. for young baseball fans, it's often a dream to be a bat boy. one boy got his dream. how a community is rallying around a 9-year-old boy after the unthinkable happened at a baseball game. we're looking toward

a young baseball fan is dead after a tragic accident after the world series game. 9-year-old was out on the field to pick up a bat when he got too close to a player doing practice swings. he was accidentally hit by a bat. he was wearing a helmet when the bat hit him, but it wasn't enough to protect his head. he was rushed to the hospital, but sadly he later died. we move to a developing story. at least one person has died, more than a dozen others injured when this tent collapsed yesterday near chicago. 60 mile per hour winds and large hail battered the ground where that festival took place. witnesses say dozens tried to take cover underneath the tent but it was ripped from the ground and crashed down on to the crowd. a 35-year-old man died. 20 people were injured. rescuers had to cut through the tarp to get people out from
