martin luther king way near the macarthur b.a.r.t. station. one officer was hit, the suspect was killed. police have not said who that suspect is only that he was 49 years old. a strange case in hayward. a special olympics athlete from albania walked into the hayward police station early this morning. he had last been seen in los angeles, where he was competing in the special olympics. how he got the 350 miles to hayward is a mystery, but he's okay and he's on his way back to los angeles. we'll take a look at weather and traffic coming up after the break.

destiny would be the magnet that draws you. and all of us i think have been drawn in some way to our destiny, meeting the right people at the right time. not things that we necessarily orchestrate but is orchestrated on our behalf. >> scripture talks about that sort of thing. that god has a plan. >> absolutely. >> we know in the advance. but don't we have to partner with that plan? >> that's what the book is about. how to focus on that plan. and i spent a great deal of time talking about behind-the-scenes moments i had with mrs. king,. >> very moving. >> going into her life and understanding she had a sense of destiny. and it's not about prophets, it's about purpose. and if you find your purpose, the prophets will find you. >> a lot of people do feel lost. they may have a nice family they love and have a job that's tedious but they need to be there. how do you help direct them to find their destiny? >> well, we don't walk into it

with one leap. i talk about steps to the book. there are many steps to find your destiny and purpose and when you look back you see how they fit together to work for your good when you're going through these things heather stelter. >> but suddenly it clicks and i talk about the moment when it focuses because it's not an issue of where we're going, the real issue is what we're willing to let go of to get there. >> the journey. but the goal is -- the journey is part of the goal. >> and being able to release things that are distractions from your destiny. >> yes, hoda! how many times have we talked. >> uh-oh. i opened up a can of worms, didn't i? >> did you know from the jump this was going to be your path or did you have something else in mind when you were a young man? >> i caught glimpses. when my mother was going outdoors speaking and she did a lot of speaking for her sorority, i was an eight-year-old boy in the back

of the car and i said "right now i'm going to hear you speak and they call you your son,& the time will come and they'll call you tom jakes' mother." now i didn't know it would be preaching, but i love people. i love crowds i love working with people and i caught glimpses and i know life is full of glimpses along the way. >> you have to hold on to that. people might say "i love that but i have to make a living. so although i enjoy being in front of people, i have to take a different path to get insurance." >> i worked at union carbide, i was a salesman for a men's clothing store, i worked for sears paint. i did everything along the way. that doesn't mean you're not getting there. all of them taught me leadership and discipline and focus. you don't know how you get there how your paths fit into your future. you know what i'm saying? things that you thought were not related to your destiny all of a sudden you think "i needed that, i needed that." that's what the book is, helping
