were happening yoev ining overn. donald trump, nowhere to be found this morning at a key conservative convention here in atlanta. the annual red state gathering. the billionaire and gop presidential front-runner was abruptly told he was no longer welcome here. after trump made new, crude comments about the questioning style of debate moderator megyn kelly last night on cnn. >> you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. blood coming out of her, wherever. >> reporter: event organizer eric erickson quickly pulled the plug on twitter writing, i have rescinded my invitation to mr. trump. while i have tried to give him great latitude, his remark about megyn kelly was a bridge too far. erickson told a small group of reporters here i am not willing to give up being 0 a decent person for donald trump. i wanted to have him here as legitimate candidate but no legitimate candidate would suggest someone a female, asking

with this words. there's no question he needs to immediately clarify that comment. >> do you renounce those comments, then? >> look, i -- my job is not to renounce comments or not. i think he needs to clarify that. if he stands by them that is highly inappropriate. i'm hoping that mr. trump, because he does speak off the cuff, because he doesn't ascribe to politically correctness was speaking in a way that wasn't fully thought out, but he needs to clarify that first thing this morning. >> at what point did these comments become damaging to the party as whole? specifically when it comes to women and to minorities? two voting blocks i mow republicknow republicans have been working really hard to recruit? >> we've done really well reaching out to young women, african-americans, hispanics, going into communities we haven't gone there. butting a lot of money and man power reaching out to

communities around the country where frankly republicans haven't been. it's at the top of our list and something we'll continue to do going through this next cycle. so from a party perspective, it's definitely an area we're very, very concerned with. an area we're continuing to do better and better every cycle with and that's going to propel us to victory in 2016. >> from a party perspective you are the party communications director for the rnc. at what point do you reach out to mr. trump? >> we have private conversations with all the candidates and their staffs on an ongoing basis, and i think those conversations will continue. i think you've noted before that chairman priebus talked to mr. trump about his tone. mr. trump's style is that he speaks off the cuff, that he is not someone that's run for office before, while that may be part of his popularity, he needs to understand he's seeking the presidency of the united states now and that words do matter, and so while people may have a problem with some folks who ascribe to totally political correctness, i think he needs to be much more understanding of

other. very respectful. we each had opinions on many issues, and some were more outspoken than others. all the communications were very civil, respectful, and we got right down to business. got through the evidence that we needed to go over, and everyone came to their individual verdict as we were instructed to do. >> tell me about that one juror that would not be swayed. what was her -- what was her reason? >> she felt that life was appropriate and would not be swayed. >> she didn't say she had concern bz his mental state?

she just said no? >> she just said she couldn't do it. >> how emotional was it trying to get her to change her mind? she was at the maximum point of her position, so we at that point decided to end the deliberation because we were entremplged in our positions for the most part other than the two that were still on the fence. >> what was it like looking at -- >> what was it like looking in the faces of the victims and her families as that decision was announced yesterday? >> well, i can't speak for everyone, but for me it was definitely painful.

i personally hope and pray that life will be as good as possible for them, but knowing it will be really difficult. >> juror 17, thank you so much for your time this morning. >> thank you. a terrifying situation unfolding at this hour in asia. a deadly typhoon surging towards mainland. that storm wreaked havoc in taiwan. at least six people were killed, including a mother and her youngest child who were swept out to sea. her other child is reportedly among the many missing at this hour. nbc ian williams has the latest for us from taipei. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erica. taiwan is now beginning to clean up and to count the costs after

a direct hit from this powerful typhoon. the typhoon made landfall early saturday packing top winds of more than 100 miles per hour of torrential rain. the island on lockdown, triggering landslides and cutting power to more than three million people. thousands of troops and rescue workers were deployed. the eye of the storm passing just south of the capital taipei. this is a fast-moving storm. it will quickly move across the island and out towards mainland china. >> by lunchtime in taipei the storm people were cautiously back on to streets covered with debris. >> downtown taipei has uprooted trees pulled from the ground from the sheer force of the storm. many trees have come down. >> reporter: residents said tall buildings swayed as they were hit by gusts of wind. >> yesterday night i can't sleep

with the wind. >> reporter: was it scary? >> yes, very scary. >> reporter: the world's second tallest building emerged unscathed from the storm. the typhoon is now threatening mainland china. now, but still formidable punch. erica? >> formidable is right. ian williams, thank you. time for a look at other stories we're following this morning. >> frances rivera in for sheinelle with scary moments in the sky overnight. >> terrifying. good morning to you. there were terrifying moments for passengers on two domestic flights. american airlines flight 669 just taken off from philadelphia when therere were reports of flames shooting from the engine. the crew declared an emergency and was able to land safely back at the airport. the problem was said to be residual fuel burning off. there were no injuries reported. and in another instance, hail pummeling a delta flight from

boston to salt lake city actually cracked the windshield forcing the plane to land in denver. that crew, too, reported no injuries. in arlington, texas, officials are looking into the shooting death of an unarmed black college football player. police responding to a burglary call found a car that crashed through the front of a dealership. there was a xufral with taylor fatally wounded by officer brad miller. the officer just graduated from the police academy in march. the incident created a firestorm on social 3450edia under the #christianmiller. he was on the football team in his sophomore year. and there are new questions this morning surrounding the death of bobbi kristina brown. an amended lawsuit by her court appointed conservative alleges her boyfriend gave the 22-year-old a toxic cocktail and put her face down in a tub of cold water. all so he could be with another woman. gordon's attorney calls the suit slanderous and meritless.

the only daughter of singers bobby brown and singer whitney houston was in full hospice and died last month. and a toxic river making its way through the four corners area of new mexico look at the water. the water is a bright orangey-yellowish after an epa crew accidentally released a million gallons of water from a colorado mine. residents and tourists are warned to stay away from the river which could send the toxic water through national parks and in through lake powell. and remembering a small town physician with a very big heart. huge, in fact. known as the $5 doctor. that's because for nearly 60 years that was the most dr. russell donor would charge patients around his hometown of rushville, illinois. made him a town hero and brought national attention. word comes that dr. donor has died, and he was 90 years old. also so big of a time, two years

night. this, by the way, marks the city's 18th homicide of the years. this happened at tully road and capital expressway. the homicide is the city's tenth in just the past six weeks. only on nbc we have exclusive video of a wild chase and capture. police have the suspect, but they need to find the victims. it started with an attempted kidnapping and carjacking in the south bay. this all unfolded yesterday in cahallan park. a man clinging to the window of a car. he eventually falls off and runs away. police say the man they have was probably trying to kidnap two different children, and that drugs may have been a factor. >> he was acting very bizarre, possibly on drugs, we don't know. we're still in the middle of that investigation, but at one

2014. >> i fired again. and in the process i was still back pedaling. >> reporter: during the trial that started this week in charlotte, prosecutors revealed this dash cam video. farrell is seen walking out of frame and then 12 gunshots. prosecutors say officer karrick hit farrell with ten of the shots. he was charged with voluntary manslaughter. >> everything went wrong that evening. that could possibly go wrong. >> reporter: in 2013, farrell's fiancee told us the former florida a & m football player recently moved with her and worked two jobs to put himself through school. but that night he crashed his car and banged on the door for help. >> there's a guy breaking in my

they come to see you for the first consultation, what is the most important question they should ask you? >> the most important question is are any of these procedures going to fix what's really botherin me. and what happens is, i'm coming to a board certified plastic surgeon for my options. surgical or non-surgical. i want to know if any of the procedures are really fixing what's been bothering me for so long. one of the things i think is happening and it is a dangerous trend. a lot of patients are traveling overseas for plastic surgery. the reason for that is they are looking for a procedure that's as cheap as possible. i think that's a big problem because what you are trying to do especially going overseas is there are so many unknowns. what's the facility? what is the doctor like? are the materials fda approved? i am treating a patient with that problem.

she had an implant that was put in that wasn't approved. >> you need to figure out if you are doing this for the right reasons, but also how do you know if you are healthy enough to be a candidate? >> that is a two-part question. mental health is the number one thing you are looking for with this patient. obviously, we will check ekg and blood work and things like that. are they having it done for right reasons? are they doing it or someone else having it done? >> and part of the reason in the poll, if there was no down time and all of these other things. we have the down time and what you have to figure in for the popular procedures. breast augmentation is less than a week. i found some surprising. >> what has happened, over the years, it has shortened up because some procedures are more elegant. these can be done and within a week you are back to work. a lot of them are non surgical. >> did your readers ask you

victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and he did die at the scene. this marks the city's 18th homicide of the year. the shooting around 10:45. blees have not made any arrests. this homicide is the city's tenth in just the past six weeks. only on nbc we have exclusive video of a wild chase and a capture. police have their suspect, but now they need to find the victims. it started with an attempted kidnapping and then a carjacking in the south bay. this all unfolded at cahallan park in san jose's blossom hill neighborhood. you can see a man running, clinging to the window of a car. he eventually gets thrown off. police say the man may have tried to kidnap two different children and drugs may have been a factor. >> he was acting very bizarre, possibly on drugs, we don't know. we're still in the middle of
