as we start out the day. right now it's 62 degrees in the east bay, 63 in the peninsula and the south bay at 62 degrees. this afternoon will be a touch cooler than yesterday. it was so comfortable. but today it gets even better. 70 degrees in the east bay, san francisco 68 degrees, you may have to deal with that drizzle and mist pretty much all day, and the north bay will be topping out at 82. let's get a look at the roads with anthony. no big concerns. as we are looking at the traffic maps we actually is have a stall coming in past the bay bridge toll plaza. a little unusual. early for this this, but the cars having no problem getting around that stall. there are so many lanes into the bay bridge toll plaza, you really doesn't have a problem getting around one car, especially early in morning. let's show you what's happening. as we get towards the bay bridge toll plaza there is the stall just past the scales -- or just pass the toll really where you pay, but otherwise no big concerns this morning. back to you. we begin with new details

this morning. two men fighting for their lives after a shooting in san francisco, the gunman still on the run. >> police say it happened just after 10:00 last night in the city's inner mission district. officers originally responded to the area of bartlett and 24th street, but were soon led elsewhere. both the vim victims were found in different places, 24th and mission, the other on 24th and south van thes avenue. police say the victims took off running after the shooting. investigators believe it may have been a drive-by shooting but don't have sauce spect description at this time. new this morning, antioch police are looking out for a gunman. police say they found a victim last night at the corner of sycamore drive and spano street with a gunshot wound to the leg. the victim is expected to be okay. he says he was walking down the street when a man shot him and then took off in a car. a nearby home was also struck by a bullet but no one else was injured. lock your doors and windows. that's the warning to people in alameda this morning after a prowler sexually assaulted a

girl inside her bedroom. it happened early sunday morning. this is the person of interest in the case. police say there have been a series of break-ins, most of them when people are home. these pictures are from a previous incident at the roadway inn on webster street back in june. five break-ins later police say his behavior has escalated. most recently he reportedly cut a screen, crawled through an open window and sexual assaulted an underage girl. >> this neighborhood is really safe and so something like that, that's happening in our neighborhood, is really scary. we definitely have to look out for each other. >> this is what being a police officer is all about is trying to catch this guy right now because this is what's impacting the community hugely right now. >> now alameda police are increasing patrols, especially at night on the west side of town where the crimes happened. at 4:33 happening today, fighting crime from the sky. san jose police say there's not enough officers on the ground so they are turning to technology to it stop the rising crime in

the city. "today in the bay" chuck coppola joining us live this morning with more on a pilot drone program and the department could get the green light later today. >> reporter: absolutely. it's up to the city council to determine whether to ground it or launch it or a one-year pilot program. now, the controversy began when san jose police quietly acquired a drone in january of 2014, spending at least $7,000 in federal grand money for the drone without any public input on the drone's use or limitations of its use. the two foot wood flying robot has gopro cameras attached and it was only after police bought it that several community meetings held. >> obviously police should be able to use it as a tool in case they're chasing somebody. so there's probably a lot of legitimate uses for it. >> we don't know what they're going to see, we will never know what they are going to see and how that could affect our lives. >> reporter: five months ago

after the meeting san jose police drew up guidelines specifying that it would not be used for surveillance but inn it stead a tool to help the bomb squad or in, quote, ak it testify shooter situations. police say it will not be flown at night and would not carry weapons. now, public safety items are on the agenda at the city council beginning at 1:30 this afternoon. live at san jose police headquarters, i'm chuck coppola, "today in the bay." 4:35. more drama for san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi. this this time a suspended license for months. the dmv says it suspended his license back in february after he failed to submit paperwork related to an october crash. through a spokesperson the sheriff says he did not know that he was only allowed to drive to and from work until now. the controversy comes as the sheriff runs for reelection. supporters say political on nept are trying to make him look bad while critics say it's part of his pattern of bad behavior. >> everyone is embarrassed by

it, but if in reality the sheriff should know better, he is the head law enforcement person in the city. >> the sheriff says he's working to fix the problem and has contacted his insurance representative to see why the proper report was never submitted. happening now, crews are going to spend much of the morning trying to repair a broken water pipe that spewed precious water into the streets. you hate to see this, especially in the midst of a draught. the break happened last night on hillsdale avenue right near highway 87 in san jose. water flowed into the street for a few hours because public works crews couldn't find the shut-off valve. it this is right across the street from the career technical educational center and it's part of the school that was without water for much of the night. things should be back to normal later this afternoon. >> you just want to go out with buckets, whatever you can get, because i don't think it's going to fall out of the sky, at least not today. >> not today. i don't see any of that in the draft. at least our temperatures aren't

really hot, not just yet. as we get a live look over the castro we do see those low clouds over the top of the buildings that we saw pretty much all day yesterday. right now 60 degrees in san francisco, hayward at 62 degrees as well as 62 degrees now in san jose. highs today will be a little bit cooler than yesterday, but really nice for the beginning of august and we have weather in the 70s and 80s, even some 60s along the coast. outer sunset will be at 64 today, half-moon bay at 68 degrees and san martin will be at 84 degrees, 83 degrees in santa rosa, 83 in walnut creek and in dublin look for a high of 86 degrees. a lot of sunshine today for the inland valleys. i will talk more about that and the heat up that's headed this way for the weekend. right now let's get a look at traffic with anthony. >> we were talking earlier about the stall at the bay bridge toll plaza, that's really the only tinning happening right now at least as far as coming into chp. we also have other things

happening that's more of overnight leftovers and that's coming in from san francisco, there 280 and 101 there was an earlier accident about 45 minute ago. crews are still on the scene on the shoulder there right at 280 northbound right where it connect just past 101. i also want to turn your attention to something is that's happening in san francisco today, in fact, there may be some confusion on the streets of san francisco later on. that's where we bring in "today in the bay" stephanie chuang, she has more on those changes happening along market street. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: that's right. we're talking about a pretty major change. no more turns on to market between 3rd and 8th streets. pretty significant. the signs are already up here in san francisco showing that only trucks, public transit buses, taxis and bikes are allowed, so no private cars, no ubers or lyfts. the goal is to make market street safer. the numbers show you why the need for change, 60% of severe

yesterday. the vermont senator seen by many as hillary clinton's crew chief viral, at least at this point for the democratic presidential nomination. while he was in oakland he scored the endorsement of the national nurses union. he favors single pair healthcare and more drastic action to address climate change. the faa just released a study it kept secret for years showing air traffic controllers schedules only lead to chronic fatigue. officials posted the study online yesterday. though the report was completed nearly three years ago. the study found nearly two in ten controllers made significant errors if the previous year and most blame the errors on fatigue. overall controllers in the study arched less than six hours of sleep per day, the faa says it tas taken steps to reduce fatigue. >> that is one job you deaf need eight hours or more a day. a shakeup at google, the

their enforcement of that law and launch a public awareness campaign. a new bill signed this week will make it easier for bart to have a cleaner commute. the bill will allow bart to purchase wholesale electricity directly from renewable energy sources. previously state law restricted who bart could purchase from. right now bart trains are 100% electric with more than half of the power coming from clean sources. bart officials hope had new bill will allow them to do even more. one of our favorable renewable energy sources would be solar. >> we will have a lot of sunshine, at least for parts of the bay area and if you live near the coast, well, you won't see much of that sun today, kind of like yesterday with those low clouds and mist and drizzle. it is in the lower 60s as you head out the door, a lot of clouds, too, and areas of fog. today's high bring it up to 80 degrees in the peninsula, 84 degrees in the south bay, east bay 70 degrees.

so comfortable there. in the tri-valley expect a high of 86 degrees, in the north bay 82, san francisco will be topping out at 68 degrees. is so with this weather pattern we've had some cooler than average temperatures, more of the same today as we take it hour by hour in san jose, by 6:00 in the morning as the sunrises it will be 61 degrees, we will stay in the 60s through most of the morning and then into the upper 70s this afternoon and a nice little breeze makes it feel so comfortable with the winds coming in from the northwest and then more westerly this afternoon. here we are at 2:00 in the afternoon, we see the winds coming am in at about 10 to 15 miles an hour at times picking up had this evening up to 20 miles an hour. heading into the weekend things will be changing. we will have is an area of high pressure moving in and that will cause the heat over the desert to build and move into the bay area. we're talking about the possibility of 90s to 100 degrees inland. so get ready for that after a span of some cool days, this is what the weekend looks like.

faced off with demonstrators. >> "today in the bay" jay gray is live in ferguson with a closer look at the situation. good morning, jay. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, 23 people arrested overnight here, but police say no looting, no shots fired and all in all things moving in the right direction. they attribute part of that to the fact that a state of emergency was declared here, allowing them to bring more officers in and place them along the front lines during the protest here. there was tension, there were a few swirm ishs, officers say several things were thrown from the crowd at them, including bottles and bricks and rocks. there is concern that there may still be some silence here and that's why police and county officials say they'll continue this stepped up rens for as long as necessary. now, look, they are still reeling from what happened on sunday. 40 to 50 rounds fired in the

crowd there. one of those with a gun according to police, turning it on officers. tyrone heiress is 18 years old, he was engaged in a gun battle with officers. he is still in critical condition, has been charged, faces ten counts right now as the investigation continues. that's the very latest live here in ferguson. i'm jay gray. sam, laura, back to you. at least trending in the right direction. how is your commute trending this morning? let's check in with anthony. it's looking pretty good in morning. we don't have any major accidents. small friender benders and leftover activity from last might. the east shore freeway coming through in emeryville, a lot of cars on the road but no problems as far as any accidents are concerned. i want to zoom past this area. we do have one small accident that was actually reported as a hit and run on the chp report and it's right near highway 4 and 80, right where they meet, but otherwise it's not affecting
