so he's never let me forget that that i cried on a plane watching "the notebook." >> well, it's coming to tv. cw is turning into a tv series. to the backstage i give -- you know, i got a little zblung the trunk. >> now is this one of those roles -- hedwig has been around for a long time. you look at that role and say one day i want to play that role. how did it come to you? >> i never thought. the character is written german. in my ignorance i didn't think i'd have the opportunity but thank goodness john in his open mindedness had me on a list and called me up and i immediately accepted. >> a lot of broadway actors come in here, taye, and they drag in here because the schedule is brutal. you're one of the few people who's come in and i said "how's the schedule treating you?" and you said "it's okay." it's seven shows a week. >> right, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, two on saturday and another matinee sunday. >> how do you do between those two shows saturday? >> oh, i sleep definitely. it's a nap. i tried not to last week and i was nodding out. so you need to rest.

but i'm a new york guy, i started in music theater so all of this is kind of -- gives me energy. i love walking to work. i love just the whole new york feel of it. >> and is this one of the most challenging -- look, you've played a lot of roles and a lot of them are macho roles. >> well, i'm very talented. [ laughter ] very, very talented. >> i think we said that in the intro, too. >> but this has to be -- you do have glitter on you. i said there's a few little bits and pieces. >> hedwig me. >> this has got to be among the most challenging, i can only imagine. >> it's the role of a lifetime. i guarantee i won't play anything as challenging. as a music theater dude, the singing is out of this world, the dancing and then the acting, you know, it's so complex. i can't imagine that i'll ever be challenged like this again. >> when i go and i think hoda when we go to broadway sometimes they give us great seats down front and i'm always wondering, can the actor on stage look down and pick people snout. >> this is a show where you have

to. >> so you know when there's someone you know in the audience? >> if they're in the first few rows, yes. it's written in the show for us to have that interaction. >> and there was one time where someone was asleep. >> yes. >> what did you do? >> there's one portion of the show where i'm supposed to go down and dance, give this person a lap dance and my lap dance woke him up.
