"today in the bay" starts right now. a very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon >> and i'm s. we will have all of those stories and more in just a moment. we begin with a check of your weather with meteorologist kari hall. good morning. >> good morningful we start out with low clouds and some fog across the bay and temperatures are nice and cool, but we will see a slightly warmer day than yesterday. 65 degrees right now in the east

bay, san francisco also 65 and as we go into the rest of the day get ready for had this, 83 did degree in the east bay, a bit warmer than yesterday, san francisco 72, in the tri-valley a high of 87 degrees, lots of sunshine after those morning clouds clear out. i will have a look at the microclimate forecast coming up. let's see how traffic is moving with anthony. good morning. in fact, yesterday, yes, we talked all about the bay bridge and the woman falling into the water and how crowded it was. nothing like that this morning, although we are still seeing some traffic here this morning building across the cash lanes but fast track lanes getting through. you can see lots of green across the entire bay area, that means things are following smoothly across the tri-valley, same thing for the peninsula and south bay. one accident near milpitas on 880 southbound but really not affecting traffic all that much. things are all quiet right now. we begin right now with breaking news. police swarm a san jose neighborhood investigating the city's 19th homicide of the

year. >> "today in the bay" damian troe she owe broke the storyover knight. little information coming out so far here. i do know we are a dumb blocks north of the lundy post office in the authority end of san jose. right now homicide investigators are here at the scene and the crime scene investigators. this is a bismark and the investigators have been looking at the surrounding perimeter of it this building at this point, trying to see it if they can find any evidence. we do know there is one victim still here at the scene and sources tell me potentially three separate suspects that police might be looking for at this point either wearing hood wrees or ski masks. we will get more information as the commander here at the scene is available to brief us on exactly what is going on, but police have been looking for any surveillance cameras that might be in the vicinity here to give them an idea of what may have happened here. i'm told that this may have occurred at around 1:30 a.m. in

fact, that is when the homicide was initially reported. we are not sure if that's when the actual homicide actually took place so we will gather more information and bring it to you as it develops. we're live in north san jose. "today in the bay." 4:33. new details now, outrage in oakland. protesters shut down a freeway after oakland police shot and killed a suspected car jacker. >> you see protesters there blocking traffic on interstate 980, that's also at 27th and mlk way last night. earlier in the day officers killed a 24-year-old man at that same spot. all of this started when an officer tried to stop a car involved in a july armed robbery. that driver then took off, crashing ultimately with a car on 27th street. a police department helicopter pilot spotted the pan trying to car jack another car once he was on foot. when that didn't work out the gunman just ran. three officers confronted him,

ordering him to drop his gun. >> the suspect at that time actually advanced towards the officers while holding a pistol in his hand. the three officers hen fired at the suspect. >> i don't believe the officer life was in jeopardy like that to where you have to shoot a person, you know, to kill him. >> police say all three officers fired their weapons. now, those officers were wearing activated body cameras. investigators are now reviewing that video. a developing story, the jerusalem fire has now reached the perimeter of the rocky fire in lake county however they have not purged. charred brush is keeping them apart for now. more than 30,000 acres have burned in the jerusalem fire. there is some progress to report, it's though nearly 20% contained. there is a battle reportedly brewing in the north bay over water. it's pitting environmentalists against about 1,000 grape fwroers in the russian river

region. they are upset by a bill that's being pushed by the wine industry. that calls for a new irrigation district covering five areas where the region's wine grapes grow. they plan to protest at a sonoma county meeting. some consider it a shopping paradise, but if you live near the outlets in livermore that paradise certainly comes with a price. the outlet mall is expanding and if you love shopping start your engines, be ready, how, to battle traffic. the outlet center unveiling 30 new upscale stores today making it it the largest premium outlet center in the state. 20 additional stores will be added later on. when it opened it was a traffic mess. outlet management says adjustments are being made but also claims the outlets aren't the only reason for traffic gridlock. >> 580 is the only east/west corridor through here so every day if you drive this on a commute as do so many of us we know, everything kind of

4:39. a developing story. we are following at least 50 people are head and hundreds hurt after a massive blast in china. hazardous material spewed through the air as people ducked for cover. >> that blast was so big many said it felt like an earthquake. "today in the bay" kris sanchez is monitoring the latest for us this morning. >> reporter: we can only imagine what the people who were holding these cell phones were thinking as they saw this blast go off in the chinese port city of tiangen. they say that it felt like an earthquake, certainly something we can understand here. taking a look at some of the latest video into our newsroom, a daytime look at the nightmare before night full and the smoke still billowing from the original explosion and the others that followed. at least 50 people are known dead, but there are hundreds of people still in the hospital and there is no count for the

missing. along with first responders are the investigators who are trying to figure out what trigd the blast at that hazardous materials warehouse. we can tell you that that port town is a major hub for the petrochemical industry. back to the early moments after the explosion this morning and we know that in addition to the flames that went up into the air the fire balls there were also toxic chemicals that flew up from the blast. some of the victims are being treated at the hospital there, we also have video of that, but there's not enough room for everybody in the hospital and so the chinese military had to set up tents outside the hospital for the overflow. we mow hundreds of people are injured, but as i mentioned, also no count for the missing. adding to all of the disaster is a seeming lack of official information from the government is what people are saying there in china. they're saying in timgen and beijing they're saying that they're getting most of their

information from the media and from the people who are in the middle of it for now. sam and laura. >> a crisis and response right now. thank you very much. it was a scary scene playing out in minneapolis overnight. three people injured when a ceiling collapsed during a concert. a 30 by 30 foot section just gave way, the reeling coming down, while 1,000 fans watched the band play. the show was stopped and everyone was evacuated. the three people who got hurt suffered nonlife-threatening injuries into joo coming up, some of the cutest video you will see all day, a deer playfully frol licking with a bunny.

the whole team is here. you've got a look at the forecast for us. >> we start out with clouds this morning, something we didn't see yesterday. and it will clear out to give us some sunshine this afternoon, but it will be still a touch warmer in some so it's, especially in the tri-valley. right now let's take a look from at&t park in san francisco you can see there the clouds that are kind of shrouding the top of some of the tallest buildings there, but still nice to start out the day. as we go into the rest of the forecast this afternoon it will be 80 degrees in the peninsula, south bay 85 degrees, san francisco 72, east bay 83 and in the tri-valley expect a high of

87 degrees. so with our temperatures up a couple of degrees each day then it really ramps up tomorrow. i will show you what i mean by that. now we see the wind coming in at a very light maybe 5 to 10 miles an hour and it won't be that much of a breezy day this afternoon until later on this evening. by 5:00 we are riding home from work during that evening commute we will have a nice ocean breeze kicking in at about 15 to 20 miles an hour. so we start out this morning with fog on the bay and as we go into the rest of the afternoon once again, our skies will be clearing and then rolling back across the bay again. so we will start out tomorrow morning with more of the same and then sunshine during the afternoon hours that will continue to warm up. so going hour by hour in san francisco, it will be in the lower 70s today, you will get a couple of hours of some sunshine. a look at los gatos today 85 degrees, 70 pt mission district and novato reaching 82 degrees,

walnut creek 88 and expect a high of 92 degrees in livermore. let's check in with anthony. unfortunately we don't have the best news here this morning. it you do use 880 coming from san jose through mill meet tas into fremont heads up. he have closed off the highway on 880 at 237 because of an accident, a three-car accident and only one lane was getting through, but though they have to wait on a tow truck and so now they are diverting traffic at caliveras. it is going to be a slow go if you do use that route because as more cars get going in a way it's going to add to a backup. across the rest of the bay area not too back bad. coming in from the altamonte pass traffic is starting to build. a shot of the golden gate bridge does show us fog so heads up. samsung preparing to unveil a new payment system and a new product. >> let's turn to landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters.

good morning. >> stocks could be pointed for a higher open after the market staged a massive turn around on wednesday, the dow reversing a 277 point loss to close relatively unchanged. investors' concerns about china's moves to lower the value of its currency and prop up its economy are easing. look for data on unemployment and retail sales. the dow closing town just a fraction to 17,402. the nasdaq rising to 50.44. apple is reportedly working with more than 40 app developers to may get ipad more appealing to business customers. sales of the ones popular tablet have dropped in the past six quarts. apple has never been a big player in workplace tech holg. and samsung a holding an event at lincoln center this morning where it's expected to unveil the bigger galaxy s 6 smartphone and galaxy note 5 tablet. the bigger news could possibly be the launch of the payment

system called samsung pay. what sets it apart from apple pay is it can can be used to purchase items at touch to pay and traditional magnet it tick card strip readers at the counter. >> tesla giving its hackers a pay raise. for years the electric car company has offered up $1,000 if hackers uncovered any flaws in its i.t. systems or cars. no you that amount is shooting up to $10,000 after two hackers reported breaking into the system last week. in that case the hackers said they not only managed to take control of tesla's model s but also shut it down. tesla says its closed that security gap. provided you have control at the wheel americans love their cars. it's evident by the record amount of money they're borrowing to buy them. new record high auto sales, ridesing prices on new vehicles and low interest rates have combined to help americans take out almost a trillion dollars in auto loans.

the report saying that u.s. auto sales are on pace to total more than 17 million vehicles per month this year. boston is out and appears los angeles is in. the u.s. olympic committee says it is optimistic l.a. will be a viable option to pete to host the 2024 summer games. the news comes two weeks after the usoc dropped boston's bid because it didn't have enough support. a joint bid from l.a. and san francisco also an option. san francisco mayor ed lee says he is deferring to l.a. in the meantime a public policy group known as the bay area council says it welcomes any opportunity to work with l.a. in support of a bid. once a u.s. city is picked, it will compete with international cities including rome and paris to host the 2024 games. >> it would be a fairy tail to have the olympic games. hey, what about a disney movie coming to life? take a look at this video from outside a ymca mere denver, colorado. it has gone viral.

crews are diverting traffic off of the highway because of an earlier accident and that's going to lead to a major backup this morning if they can't get a handle on things wrapped up quickly. across the rest of the bay area things are looking pretty good except for yesterday where we had the bay bridge bogged town, mott the case this morning, traffic the typical build building early this morning. new details now, community leaders in oakland are still convinced at some point the coliseum will be redeveloped so they are now asking city leaders to keep residents in mind when that day comes. right though, though, plans for a new coliseum city complex appear to be on life support. the raiders are going full bore on a new stadium in southern california and the a's are hardly playing ball on plans for a new oakland facility, with the key deadline approaching next week community groups lived a handwritten letter to the payor's office. they are asking for a verbal commitment to provide jobs and other benefits when and if it
