will be a hot day in some spots. as we start out we are at 65 can degrees in the south bay, peninsula, east bay. service now at 62 degrees, a high of 74 degrees there, east bay 81 degrees a lot of sunshine in the east bay and south bay, it will be 89 degrees and 90 in the north bay. i will detail the weekend forecast coming up in a few minutes. right now let's get a look at how the roads are moving with anthony. we are going to talk more about this as the newscast goes on, but i want to give you a quick heads up. there is smoke billowing over the highway this morning because of a fire this oakland. this is 880, you can see traffic moving without a problem, but we switch over to the maps and you can see where it's at, right near lake merritt and another accident at 580 and 13. across the south bay we do have an accident on 280 north ground at guadeloupe parkway. over near 101 near capital expressway southbound lanes

dealing with an accident there. i'm glad you mentioned that fire because it is our breaking news news we are covering this morning. they are working hard to put out a fire at a strip mall in oakland. this is the latest video into our newsroom, it's all happening off of international and 8th street. the flames so large at one point they actually have to call for backup twice. we have also just learned at least six residences above the strip mall were damaged. at least 15 people were displaced. the good news is that they got out, no one was hurt. of course, keep an eye on this developing story, we will update you as more information becomes available. you could see the smoke of 880 this morning so it could be a distraction. more breaking news now. this from new york. specifically staten island where a firefighters was shot outside of a house this morning. that display came after authorities say the federal agents tried to serve a warrant at a res it dense there. u.s. marshals were inside the house when a fire broke out. firefighters responded, one of

them was shot in the legs and we are learning that police are saying now the fugitive allegedly opened fire. the firefighter does not appear to have serious injuries and authorities are still trying to get that fugitive out of the house, it looks like an active scene there with nypd s.w.a.t. we are going to continue to stay on top of that. we move to devastating news for a local sheriffs department. dying doing his job off duty. we should say a sheriff's deputy, a contra costa sheriff's deputy is dead after drowning in lake tahoe trying to save someone else's life. police a carlos francies jumped into deep water and died himself. >> choppy conditions made swimming in the lake very tricky. winds were 20 to 30 herps and waves said top up to 4 feet. right now st it's not clear if the person he was trying to rescue also drowned. the sheriffs released a statement, deputy carlos francies died doing what he was sworn to do, putting himself in

harm's way to protect the lives of others. he is a hero and example of exactly what is right in law enforcement today. we are of course going to continue to follow the latest developments this this story throughout the morning. "today in the bay's" damian trujillo will have a live report in our next half hour. to a painful anniversary for a bay area mom. today marks nine years since her 17-year-old son was shot and killed in front of his san francisco house and sill no answers. "today in the bay" stephanie chuang joins us live from our san francisco newsroom with more on her quest for closure and what she is still doing on this anniversary to this day. >> reporter: think about it, nine years of not just grief but questions for one san francisco mother who says she will not stop until she finds her son's killer. now, at grove and baker that's pretty close to golden gate park is where paulette brown goes every year and she has gone since 2006 to post pictures of her son automobile bree abrakasa. he was on his way to work when

six men armed with guns heading down his street apparently headed to shoot someone else. he yelled run. the group of people did run off, but the gunman then shot aubrey 30 times. >> i just want so the closure. i don't have any. i don't have any answers. no one wants to some forth. >> it's a shame that there were people around in this neighborhood because it was broad daylight that saw something that won't come and step forward. >> reporter: and that was george rant, he works for the f sheriff's department. the reentry project and he has been helping to find justice for aubrey and his mother. brown's goal again to find justice. there is a $250,000 reward for leading to the arrest an conviction of aubrey's killer -- i should say for information leading to that. paulette brown will be back at grove and baker today around 3:00 in the afternoon to again hand out flyers. this time, 3:00, is when her son was killed back in 2006.

live in our san francisco newsroom, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." and she will continue to grief. thank you very much. it's 4:35. also happening today, the sensitive debate over life and death will play out in court. terminally ill patients and doctors who treat them are suing the state for the right to die. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez has more on what's expected to be a high profile court case, one we will follow. >> reporter: it's going to be a long time before california really settles the issue of death with dignity. the most recent legislative action stalled which is why a san francisco woman is taking her fight to court. christie white fought twice for her life and now she wants to make sure that she has the right to die on her own terms if the leukemia that threatened her life before threatens to kill her. attorneys for her and two other plaintiffs will argue this court today for an injunction, a protective order so that#h docts will not be prosecuted if they prescribe the medication to help patients end their lives. for christie white it is the

difference between dying at home and a dying somewhere strange. >> i don't want to have to leave california. i live here, my family and friends are here, i have a tarm two hours north of here, you know, i have my vision if it that day comes of what i want it to be and it's not in a strange place in oregon that i don't know. >> reporter: referencing oregon she's talking about the death of brittany maynard, a san francisco woman who moved to oregon with her husband so that she could end her life before the suffering were terminal brain cancer became too much. a hundred-year-old statute this had california prevents doctors from participating in a patient's death and though some doctors do prescribe the life ending drug, others fear legal action down the road so had he don't. attorney general harris will present the state's case. at 4:37 right now let's get a check of current conditions with meteorologist kari hall. good morning. >> good morning. and we do start out with cloudy skies and temperatures in the

60s and as we take a look now at san jose we can see the clouds overhead, and a nice mild start to the day. grab a light jacket as you head out. then this afternoon you will be peeling that off as we continue to warm up. it is now 67 degrees in livermore, in san jose 65, in san francisco 62. our temperatures will dip just a couple of more can eggs as the sunrises, and highs today reaching 86 degrees in los gatos, still nice and a lot had of sunshine with temperatures warming up comfortably. in mountain view 86 degrees, financial district will be at 74, still some clouds. and in napa 89 degrees, brentwood 92. we do have some 90s today and widespread 90s tomorrow. more on that coming up in a few minutes. let's see how traffic is moving. he i want to give drivers a heads up, there is a fire had a we have been covering this morning across oakland, 880 and especially once you get to lake merritt you will notice some of the smoke billowing up over the highway. heads up for oakland drivers.

secret information discovered on hillary clinton's private server. the "associated press" spoke exclusively with some u.s. officials who reviewed clinton correspondence deemed top secret earlier this week by an auditor. one e-mail involves a drone operation, the other apparently refers to highly classified material but still the sources say the reporting of that information could have been inadvertent and clinton did not actually transmit the information. at 4:42 now to new developments in china where rescuers pulled a trapped fire tiert out of rubble some 32 powers a after this huge explosion killed dozens. the firefighters is now in the hospital recovering from injuries. 17 of more than 50 killed were firefighters but there are still others still missing. investigators are searching for any clues to figure out what caused the explosions at a warehouse used to store toxic chemicals and gas. chinese media reports an atomic

energy response team is heading to the scene. a new lawsuit surrounding head injuries may change the entire face of college football at cal, perhaps across the nation. former cal bear bernard hicks for medical malpractice. he said he suffered head injuries for concussions from his playing days. these suits accuse cal of failing to take adequate measures to prevent concussions and warn players about long-term impacts. >> what a jury is going to have to decide is did the university of california and the coach and training staff work reasonably under the circumstances for what was nope back in 2004 and 2008. >> the university responded to that lawsuit saying, quote, our coaches, physicians and medical staff and everyone involved with cal athletics are dedicated to the safety of our students'

gradual clearing and the winds will be picking up, too, a mostly clear evening and something we haven't seen in the past couple of nights and mornings, we haven't had a clear start. sunset will be at 8:01. 67 degrees is the temperature now if in livermore, napa 59 degrees, santa rosa 54 degrees. we do have a shift in the wind correction and it will come in from the north in many spots and it starts out light, here we are at noon and the winds coming am from the north at 10 to 15 miles an hour, but look at what happens this evening, the wind starts to pick up along the coast and it will be up to 20, maybe 25 miles an hour. so that will make the beach very -- well, a lot of waves out there we will say. and then as we head into the day tomorrow we will also have mostly clear skies. on the way out to the giants game a lot of clear skies and mostly clear conditions and temperatures dropping back into the 60s. right now let's check in with anthony to see how things are moving on the road.

session on thursday as a drop in oil prices, crude is trading at six-year lows, amid slumping global demand. date at that on inflation, and the consumer. the nasdaq falling 10 to 50.33. apple is putting plans to unveil it's long rumored streaming tv service on hold. the company had been expected to announce the service at it's iphone event next month but reports say it is being delayed until at least next year, negotiations with broadcast networks such as nbc, cbs and fox will be slow going. also it lacks the infrastructure capable of ensuring a smooth streaming experience. this episode of "sesame street" is brought to you by the letters hbo. the cable pet work will be the home of new episodes of the children's show before they air on pbs nine months later. it will allow the producer to double the number of episodes it tapes each year from 18 to 35.

first and we fell in love with all dogs at that point. rather than getting a second dog we decided to volunteer here and get doggie love every day. >> people come here not just to adopt an mall, but to find a companion. dogs and cats and pets just make such a difference in all of our lives and i think that when i get to make that love connection that i'm enhancing not just the life of the animal that i've really come to love and enjoy, but the family that takes them home as well. >> for mrs. lafferty it's a no-brainer, you offer these pets a home, they offer you unconditional love. >> it will be the best time you have ever invested. >> it would be hard to not walk away without a pet tomorrow. >> that dog that she was holding on to is not making it it through saturday. someone is adopting that.

welcome back everyone. 4:55. you made it to friday morning, now what will the forecast hold? let's check in with kari. >> good morning. starting out with a lot of clouds, some fog, mist, you know, the typical stuff. it is much cooler in the north bay, it's in the lower 50s now, but we do have some mid 60s elsewhere across the bay and you just want to head out early and get to work early -- on time actually as we once again have seen some low clouds and some fog in a few spots. today's high brings it up to 89 degrees in the south bay, east bay 81, but check out the tri-valley, 91 starting to heat up. more on the weekend forecast which looks pretty hot and not so much the roads, i guess this morning, anthony. nobody getting to work on time this morning, we are all getting this early. you can see things are moving nice and smooth across the bay bridge approach, kind of a different story from what we have been seeing all week long, maybe just a few more folks staying at home this morning. across oakland this morning we
