me to say that, you know what, we have to deal with it for a few more days before it gets better by the end of the week. it is 61 degrees in san francisco and check out the upper 60s right now, you know it's going to be a hot day. look at that, 68 degrees at 4:30 in the morning, and today's forecast brings it up to 100 degrees in the south bay. the north bay at 95 degrees in the east bay at 90 degrees, still smoke and haze in the air, and it will be another hot one. let's check in now with traffic with mike. traffic report says hot, hot right now. we're looking over here, the traffic flow very easy through oakland, 880 northbound, look at your map, one crash to report in the area, but it is off to the shoulder and from what i can tell, traffic is not affected by that. 280, fender bender, and reminder

san francisco schools are back in session today. that'll be a different traffic flow, back to you. >> good to have you back, thank you very much. deadly police encounter unfolded in san jose. we're learning more about an officer-involved shooting that brought out a massive police response. this happened on center and east capital expressway in east san jose. >> we are live at the scene, damian, what can you tell us hours after the shooting? >> reporter: well, it's still an active crime scene behind me. we're across the street and the crime scene truck is still here trying to find out what happened. police confirmed officially, of course, that this is a fatal officer-involved shooting. all police is say is they were doing a followup investigation when they were confronted by the man they shot. that man pulled a gun on officers who opened fire on him. that man has not been identified, and police are not saying if he is the man who they were doing that followup investigation on. this is the.

seventh officer-involved shooting of the year in san jose. four of them have been fatal. last year alone, we saw only five officer-involved shootings. at one point, i'm told there were as many as 40 police officers here on the scene last night. it happened just after 10:00 p.m. one other person may have been injured here at the scene from shattered glass. that injury appears to be minor. and we're not told that any officers, also injured in this incident. we're still waiting for the coroner here to arrive, and we will keep you updated. "today in the bay." happening today, we are expecting to learn more about another officer-involved shooting in sunnyvale. and the search for the suspect still on the run. the shooting happened saturday afternoon when officers responded to suspicious activity at a motel 6. officers chased two men running away, one of the men was shot and killed, the other suspect though did get away.

dozens of officer continue the search for that missing suspect in the area. >> i did sense that there was somebody at large, and that was possibly us in danger. >> the gun was found near the body of the suspect that officers shot and killed. another was found in his backpack. police have yet to release anymore details. there is a news conference set for 10:30 this morning, we'll be there. new this morning, fiery crash involving at least two cars. killed three people and sent one person to the hospital. all this happening at about 10:00 last night on san pablo dam road. one victim was taken to john nora medical center in walnut creek with major injuries. you can see the daniel to the vehicles there. one car ended up in a tree. witnesses say it might have stemmed from a street race. alcohol was a factor in this crash. car burglars are hitting san francisco hard these days, and according to to the chronicle, police received nearly 12,000

reports in the city from january to june. that is up nearly 50% over last year. police blame the spike on recent changes to criminal law, reducing spents for non-violent offenders. crime experts say there are likely many contributing factors. happening today, santa clara county leaders are working on a plan to fund transportation projects with a new sales tax. today the city of palo alto is going to talk about how it can get a piece of the pie so to speak. the county wants to put a sales tax on the 2016 ballot to pay for a laundry list of upgrading in several different cities. the vta asked cities to submit their proposed project to determine which ones are highers priority. at the hop of al low alto's wish list, separating cal tracks from city streets. they are going to meet to preparer that proposal. also on the agenda this evening, higher water bills for residents and businesses. city council is going to hold a public hearing tonight on the

proposed new water rates. the plan is to raise rates by about 4%. the city will track on drought surcharges for people who violate water restrictions and put in place by the water resources control board. the new rates would take affect on september 1st. zplmpblts this weekend we were sure wishing we could run through the sprinklers because it was hot. kerry hall with a look at what we can expect today. >> it will be another hot day, i saw people sitting outside and just trying to take in some air, trying to get a breeze, but there really wasn't much of one, and now as we look at san francisco, we still had that smoke and haze in the air. and we're starting out at 70 degrees right now in livermore, san francisco at 61 degrees. high the 93 degrees in san jose, mountain view at 96 degrees, and even the low 80s once again in san francisco. and in the north bay, we'll have high 90s and even 100 degrees in the tri-valley today.

now to a developing story in indonesia. searchers spotted the wreckage of a passenger plane that went down yesterday with 54 people on board. that plane reportedly crashed 15 miles from its destination into the mountains and dense jungles of eastern indonesia. villagers reported seeing the plane flying low and slamming into a mountains. now investigators believe bad weather might be to blame for that crash. the pilot reported visibility was port of land before traffic reporters lost communication. >> if in fact they're in the side of a mountain as reported, they may not have recognized where they were and that impact may have been as much a surprise to them as anything else. >> as far as who was on board,

there were 44 adult passengers, five crew members, and five children. when that plane went down. search and rescue teams are working to find any survivors. meantime in china, rescue crews uncovered ten more bodies from the site of last week's massive chemical plant explosion. that raises the death toll now to 114. 70 other people are still mying right -- missing right now nearly five days after the blast. as crews continue to search for remains, there's also a new environmental concern this morning as swarms move towards the area. poisonous gas could be exposed and released in the air. air pollution killed 4d,000 people in china every day. and now bay area nonprofit says all of that bad air is blowing toward california. a new report by berkeley earth finds that 38% of people living in china breathe air considered unhealthy by u.s. standards.

and it's hot in some spots, carrie. >> i graubed my jacket -- grabbed my jacket out of habit this morning, not thinking about it. >> so, keep that in mind as you get the kids ready for school this morning. it is already warm outside, and they need shorts for this afternoon. and pack a bottle of water or something so they can keep refilling that throughout the day and you want to stay hydrated. another hot day, and as we take a look at what's happening out there now, we do see that the temperatures are in the lower 60s in san francisco, the north bay at 58 degrees, it's already hazy, and you can see that haze from our shot over san francisco. 68 degrees in the south bay, today's high brings it up to 100 degrees in the south bay. that smoke and haze still in the air. 90 degrees today for the east bay, the tri-valley 103 and san francisco reaching 82 degrees, the north bay, 95 degrees. we do have a very weak wind, but it's coming from the north and

bringing in the smoke from the wild fires and the high pressures keeping it trapped near the surface. we won't have an on-shore flow until later on this evening. the winds pick up about 12 to 15 miles an hour. here we are at 4:00, the westerly wind will help freshen the air. hour by hour in san francisco, we start out at 61 degrees, 77 degrees at 1:00, and yeah, it'll be still very warm this afternoon. reaching into the upper 80s in some spots, some parts of the interior parts of the city and into the next few days. we see the temperature going down, so it will get better, it'll just take a few more days before we get there. let's see how traffic is moving this morning with mike. good morning, carrie, won't take long for the traffic to increase. so far past the oakland coliseum, easy drive. nice flow. we'll show you the map, green through oakland coming out of san leandro, same thing for 580

to reality for apple. the guardian reports documents show apple is scouting for secure locations in california to test the vehicle. apple has been hiring people in recent months with background in auto safety and power train systems. they're now building several miles from apple's new headquarters. and the passenger right groups say delta is shaming customers into intending more on upgrades. when you try to buy a cheap ticket, they lift several before a final confirmation. delta says it's only trying to make people aware of what they're buying, back over to you. >> it's getting increasely harder in general to buy a normal coach seat, i noticed. >> i know what i'm up against when i board a plane. >> thank you very much. if you have recently cut the cord with paid tv, you are not alone on that. as consumers grow accustomed to video options, they're leaving traditional paid of it service behind. and it appears that cord cutting

is moving faster. the new report finds that paid tv providers had their worst three-month period ever between april and june. losing more than 600,000 subscribers, 83% of homes are still connected to paid tv. new rules are making it harder for ride share companies to operate. mercury news reports that amongst the new rules, they must be fingerprinted and have to get business licenses in order to pick them up from the international airport. those drivers say it is too strict and too costly for them. they already comply with background checks with their respective companies, this all will take affect next month. change for the better. bart riders surveyed say they have noticed station platforms, restroom in other areas are getting cleaner. this is according to to the san francisco examiner. on a scale of one to four, one being poor and four excellent, bart received close to a three

which is just describe as what they describe as good. officials say they've required crews to fix lighting and scrub walls. quite a few folks cleaning up at bart station last time i was there. happening today, state lawmakers are back from summer break, and they are working on a fix for california's crumbling roads, but tax payers, you may not like the solution. the current gas tax revenue covers only a fraction of the highway repair needs. business organizations are seeking to raise at least $6 billion a year with higher gas and diesel taxes, as well as a higher vehicle registration and license fee. governor brown supports the plan, but two-thirds of lawmakers in both houses of the legislature have to approve the change. >> raising taxes in california, one of the hardest things to do, anyway for that reason. coming up, a young boy proves that saving little by little, little becomes a lot, all to help with friend with cancer.

driving around through parts of the bay area this weekend, people say numbers like 103 and 104 on your car dash. that was not a major, carrie, it'll continue. >> it will continue, but it gets better throughout the week. we'll struggle for just a couple more days before the weather starts to cooperate once again. it'll be 103 degrees today in gilroy, and pacifica, that's where you'll want to go once gone cool off, 77 degrees, the valley at 80 degrees today and financial district in the 80s once again. napa, 93 degrees, brentwood, 101, and livermore, 103 degrees. so, more hot weather today. let's see if the roads are heating up with mike. we had almost nothing going on, we got a crash over here in the hayward area, rest of the

bay, easy flow of traffic. out of hayward in towards san leandro, reports that come in from chp and we have three or four vehicles blocking your slow lane. watch for the slowing there, san mateo bridge, no delays, back to you. another deadly midair air collision, this time in chicago. two slammed into each other during a stunt that clearly went wrong. witnesses say one then hit a building before falling on to the street where he died. the other landed on a nearby beach and suffered a broken leg. investigators are still trying to figure out what went wrong. >> it really is horrible, 4:54 right now, 30-year-old man is in police kus dhi morning in connection to the stabbing death of morgan freeman's stepdaughter. she was found lying on the street yesterday with several

stab wounds to the chest. she died at the scene. police say the man they took into custody was in a relationship with hines. he's currently going a psychological evaluation. san jose is starting the school year without a president, today is mohamed's last day on the job. last month, he announced that he will become chief advisor for infrastructure and technology to afghanistan's president. he has had a rocky four years heading san jose state. critics blame him for low moral among faculty and students and dealt poorly with a hate crime case and sexual assault case. he is leaving a proud legacy. interim president has yet to be named. first for baseball now, breaking barriers just by stepping on to the field. he is the first active player for a minor affiliated baseball team to announce publicly that

he's guy a denverson is a first base prospect for the milwaukee brewers. their affiliate in montana. denverson said in a newspaper interview yesterday that supportive teammates have given him all kinds of encouragement and the confidence to come out. he felt a huge relief from revealing his orientation. he's a 20-year-old from southern california. first $15, now thousands of dollars, an eight-year-old boy created the perfect recipe for raising money for a good cause. he first made headlines when he braved freezing cold temperatures in denver to set up a hot cocoa stand. now, it's blistering, and he is serving lemonade instead. all in honor of his friend who's fighting cancer. >> my friend had brain cancer, so he, he went to children's hospital, and they saved his life. >> oh, the lemonade stand made more than $300 yesterday alone, and that brings his nearly total
