"today in the bay's" stephanie chuang is live at john um medical center in walnut creek this morning, that's where the driver was taken. steph, it looks like alcohol may have been a factor as well. >> reporter: yeah, that's right, kris and sam, the driver brought here to the hospital with major injuries, what is clear is what chp subpoena saying. which is that it is likely he was under the influence and speeding when this crash happened. he was the only one in his red camaro to survive the deadly

crash taken away by the ambulance after 10:00 last night from san pablo dam road. you can see how bad this crash was. chp says it appears the driver of the camaro sideswiped a silver honda civic and then burst into flames. there were witness kkts of street racing that might have happened, that's unconfirmed by investigators who are trying to figure out exactly what went wrong to cause the crash. >> yeah, it's got some turns and twists here, but this portion appears actually pretty straight, so as far as what happened with the camaro coming into the other lane, i'm not sure what happened there. >> reporter: the honda driver was fine, suffering either very miner or no injuries. duo not have the identities of those killed. it is also unclear that because of the crash of the tree or because of the fire. san pablo dam road reopened earlier this morning. we were there earlier this morning as well and the only signs of the deadly crash just

debrae from the layers on the roadway. live here in walnut creek, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." in san jose, police are investigating the city's third deadly officer-involved shooting in one week. police shot and killed a man they say reached for a handgun. >> this happened at a strip mall on center road, not far from monterrey road. we are there right now, and damian, as we see from what it looks like, it's a an active scene almost eight hours later. >> reporter: yeah, in fact that's what's going on right now. investigators are still here, that crime scene truck has been awfully busy investigating one shooting after another here in san jose. we are across the street from andrew hill high school where classes resumed earlier this morning. all police will say is officers were conducting a followup investigation. they won't say what kind of investigation. now when they approached the man here until the parking lot of a strip mall on center road. police say that man. uled a gun on officers. two officers opened fire and killed the man.

he has not yet been identified, nor have police said if he is the man officers were looking for in their followup investigation. it happened again just after 10:00 last night, this is already the seventh officer-involved shooting of the year here in san jose. now of those shootings, four have been fatal, the last year the city registered five officer-involved shootings. there are several businesses here because center road is closed, the northbound side is for about half a block, it affects several businesses, there's a 7-eleven and gas station opened. they've been closed for eight hours as police conduct their investigation. that's the latest on the center road in san jose, "today in the bay." >> as we can see, folks walking as well. san francisco police hope that a new crew will help them catch the suspect involved in a double homicide from seven months ago. take a look at the surveillance video, investigators believe the suspects were in that black truck, likely a dodge ram.

they're hoping someone will recognize the truck in that location. it was back in january that a mother was killed in a drive-by shooting and likely just trying to protect her children who were playing in front of her home. a man was also shot and killed. kris, violent weekend on oakland streets. we saw two people die, to more sent to the hospital. police responded to three shootings within an hour of each other early yesterday morning. the first one happening on international boulevard. three more people were shot on broadway just 30 minutes later. one of whom died, and another is the in critical condition. then there was a third shooting which killed a juvenile on foothill boulevard. police have not arrested any suspects and have not said whether any incidents are related. officers investigating a hit-and-run crash in vallejo say this is a homicide investigation. police are still piecing together what happened, here's what they do know, on saturday night, a u-haul truck driver

took off from the scene after hitting two people. the side of the buildsing was also danieled. one of the victims died. what's unclear is that police say the driver may have been stabbed by one of the victims before he hit the two with the truck, and no one knows why. 6:0 #, a man accused in the attack and armed robbery of two news crews heads back to work later today. our crew was reporting along the embarcadero last month, they were attacked along with another news crew by three men driving a black bmw. one of the suspects, 23-year-old michael jones was arrested last month. he's in court today for a status update. san francisco police say they're closing in on his accomplices. we are learning more about the recent victim of a hate crime in san francisco. over the weekend, we showed you this video of a man scrawling a racist message on the garage door of an asian family. it turns out to be the home of justin kahn who sold that video sharing platform twitch to

new concerns this morning in china following the massive explosions last week. storms right now are moving into the area, and environmental officials are worried about poisonous hydrogen cyanide being released into the air. officials there say search crews have recovered ten more bodies from the debris. raising the total death toll at this point to 114 people. 70 others are still missing, nearly five days after the explosion. developing right now in indonesia, search and rescue teams are trying to reach the wreckage of a indonesian passenger plane that crashed with 54 people on board including several children. late yesterday, crews spotted the wreckage in a remote mountainous region of the country. smoke was spill bill lowing from

the crash site which is reportedly just a few miles from the flight's destination. villagers reported see egg the plane flying low, then slamming into the mountains. now investigators believe bad weather may be to blame. the pilot was reporting visibility was too poor to land before air traffic controllers lost communication with them. >> if, in fact, they're in the side of a mountain is as reported, they may not have recognized where they were, and that impact may have been as much a surprise to them as anything else. >> now there were 44 adult passengers, five crew members, and as we mentioned, five children on board when the plane went down. it is unclear right now if anyone survived. five people have also died after two planes collided in the skies over san diego. the faa says that both planes were about to land. this happened yesterday morning just a few miles from the border of mexico. those planes came down between a freeway and a prison. one was carrying four passengers who work for the military contractor bae systems.

pilot of the other plane was on a cross country trip. new at 6:00, concord hospital became the first in the east bay to perform a major lung surgery with a robot. doctors at john um medical center successfully removed a tumor from a lung cancer patient with help of robotic technology. instead of making a large incision on the chest, the robot allowed doctors to complete the surgery with just a few small incisions. the hospital says this resulted in shorter recovery time and less pain for the patient. amazon is using more robots. strong reaction this morning to a sunday new york times article that called am zone quote, a bruising place to work. >> back stabbing, and tears in the board room too. >> a brutal article, kris, brutal company if you believe the times which says it interviewed more than 100 employees and former employees to understand what happened that there. the times article talks about people pass over for promotion

night on san pablo dam road, not far from the san pablo reservoir. stephanie chuang joining us live from the medical center in walnut creek, steph, the driver of one of the cars was taken, and alcohol likely played a role in that crash. >> reporter: yeah, that's right, sam and kris, unfortunately. the driver brought here to john mere medical last night with major injuries. the chp saying it's likely he was drinking before he took the wheel and was speeding with three other people inside. those three passengers all died, he was the only one to be taken away by the balance after 10:00 last night from san pablo dam lane where his car hit at tree and burst into flames. he veered, sideswiping a honda civic. this morning the c shp trying to answer questions to determine exactly what led to the crash. mostly about the driver. >> it was a male driver. as far as his age, i'm not sure of that right now.

investigators have been here for the past eight or nine hours or so here on the strip mall on center road in san jose. they've been here gathering evidence and processing the scene. now so far, police are not releasing much information, they do say this is, they were doing a followup investigation when they were confronted by the man they shot on this strip mall. the man pulled a gun on officers. two officers opened fire on him, that man has not been identified. and police are not saying if he is a man who they were doing that followup investigation on. this is is the seventh officer-involved shooting of the year in san jose. four of them have been fatal. last year saw only five officer-involved shootings all year. at one point i'm told there were as many as 40 police officers here on the scene, it happened just after 10:00 last night. one other person may have been injured, but not seriously here at the scene from shattered glass at a laundromat here at

the strip mall. sources tell me that the suspect in this case was a, quote, big fish. and someone they had been tracking for some time. we're waiting for word, official word from san jose police on who in fact they shot here on central road. "today in the bay." >> all right, thank you very much, damian. happening today, we're expecting to learn more about a deadly officer-involved shooting, this one in sunnyvale. and the search far second suspect still on the run. shooting happened saturday afternoon when officers responded to some suspicious activity outside a motel 6. officers chased two men running away, one of the men was shot and kill, the other suspect though got away. dozens of officers continued to search the area for that missing suspect. >> with all the police activity, i did sense that there was somebody at large, and that was possibly armed and dangerous. >> investigators say they did find a gun near the body of the suspect who was shot and killed by officers. and another gun in his backpack,

but police have yet to release more details. they say they'll release more today, there is a news conference for 10:30 this morning web, and we'll be there. distance placed this morning after an explosion and a fire brip ripped right through their house. fire broke out around 5:30 last night in a house on byrd avenue and willow glen. the three people who live there and their house and dog all got out safely. the flames destroyed much more than his two bedroom home. >> my money, all my tools, my livelihood, my truck, dirt bikes, other street bike everything i own in the world. and i don't have a bank account. everything, everything i own is in that house. >> that gentleman and his girlfriend and son were home when they heard an explosion in the garage. then flames quickly spread throughout the house. 35 firefighters battled the flames keeping that fire from spreading to other neighbor's homes. investigators right now still looking into the cause. yeah, developing news in the pacific northwest where

>> i don't think so, especially when you don't have air-conditioni air-conditioning. we do have such poor air quality because of high pressure kind of trapping that smoke near the surface. so the pollution gets trapped, and each day the pollutants just build up, so we're in day three of this, and it will get better as we go through the week, but with the hot temperatures, well, we'll have to deal with this for a little while longer. so as that high pressure continues to build, it also produces some very hot temperatures as the air sinks. and today it'll billion 100 degrees, mountain view, 96 degrees, and still in the 80s in san francisco, but you can cool off at the outer sunset. it'll be 70 degrees, also 70 in point rays brentwood and 101 degrees in san ramone today. topping out at 100 degrees, it goes down as we go to the middle of the week, and i'll show you those temperatures coming up in a few minutes. right now let's see how the roads are moving with mike. >> good morning, kari, good recovery right here, look through the haze, this is the
