>> thank you very muching meek. 6:00, details on two deadly shootings in less than 24 hours, both involving san jose officers. we're learning both are connected. >> today bob redell joining us live. they say two stem from a rekrejts homicide and torture. >> reporter: sam and laura, one of those police shootings taking place on the street behind me. yes, the san jose police believe the two they killed were involved in the homicide and torture of a man last thursday. it was last night at 7:00 police were tailing one of the suspects in the south part of the city because they had information he was armed and was about to kill a woman he was involved with because she knew about his involvement in thursday's homicide. there was a chase. once he realized he was being followed he crashed his car and

tried to run away but police shot and killed him when he reached for his waistband. a police spokesperson said they did not find a gun near the man. another man was shot. they believe he and last night's suspect were kiinvolved in the killing of a man on thursday, a crime that was partially captured by surveillance camera. >> i have to tell you i just came from the san jose police homicide unit where i watched part of a video that shows horrific encounter where three suspects are tear rying the victim that they eventually killed. >> san jose police are still looking for that third suspect involved in thursday's homicide. they are encouraging him to surrender. reporting live here in south san jose, bob redell "today in the bay."

>> thank you, bob. now an update. police identify the man they shot and killed as alan baker. investigators say he had two loaded handguns that he refused to drop forcing the officer to shoot. on saturday police were responding to reports of a suspicious activity at a motel 6 when they came across bake e. officers say baker was with this teenager, 19-year-old shaun brown who took off. he's been on the run since. he's a suspect in the fresno homicide. the family of a mother asho and killed is going to make a plea to find her killer. 33-year-old maria sosa was watching her children play in front of her home in bay view. a stray bullet struck and killed her. police have recently released this surveillance video of this incident. police believe the shatters were in that black truck. today sosa's father is going to speak to the media about her death in the hopes of

identifying her gunman. new cell phone video captured the terrifying moment. it happened yesterday outside a hindu shrine. one that is popular with tourists. at least 20 people are dead. nearly 150 others hurt. in the last few hours authorities leased the vary lance picture of a man wanted in the bomb blast. he's seen in the first image wearing a yellow shirt with backpack. later in one without a bag. there was also another explosion in bangkok this morning but officials do not know if it was related to the first. it happened at a ferry pier. police say the bomb was thrown from a bridge and blew up after it hit the river board. officials in indonesia say they found the flight and data

recorder. the plane went down a few days ago killing all people on board. the data recorders are in good shape and they hope it leads them to more on what led up the that crash. wildfires burning out of control. firefighters are doing something they haven't done in nearly a decade. they're calling in the military. there are nearly 100 wildfires burning. >> yeah. for those on the front lines it feels like a war zone. active-duty soldiers have not been deployed since 2006. they'll likely end up here. they'll backfill firefighters who need to rest and replace equipment. soldiers will only have three days of training so they won't do highly technical firefighting. mainly they'll check burn areas

and watch for hot spots. there are three major fires burning in california. 19 all together and close to 100 across the west. >> when we have a new start, especially with all these other fires going, cal fire reactings very aggressively while we launch over $2 million worth of equipment to just a single report of a fire anywhere in the state. >> with all those deployments the costs continue toed a up. california has spent $133 million since july 1st. the u.s. forest service is spend 1g $00 million a week and is on track to use up its entire bucket by next month and the peak wildfire season isn't even here yet but will be in the throes of it in september and october. sam and laura? >> man power really an issue. thanks, kris. if you live in north berkeley

and you see lots of firefighters in your neighborhood this week, don't panic. crews will be making rounds as part of a wild fire training session. it's all part of keeping the neighborhood safe and prepared during an emergency. crews will be trained in fighting it and doing roy they can. >> let's take a look at the weather. carr cari? the weather continueses to improve. we had a lot of records set on sunday and also a record set yesterday in mountain view with high of 85 degrees. but once again the weather continues to improve as we go through each day. it will still be warm. in san jose, a high of 91. mountain view, 81. the castro will be at 72.

coming up on 6:13 on your tuesday morning, state regulators are considering a $2 million investigation to see if pg and e is doing enough still to keep us safe. the public utility commission is expected to consider that idea at next week's meeting. the plan would hire a consultant to look into pg&e's practices. it would be paid out of pg&e's cash and it following the blast that killed eight people and destroyed an entire neighborhood bay area city will look at raising the minimum wage. they're looking at drafting a model. they say it makes sense to have

a minimum sense to operate in multiple cities. they're looking at a minimum wage of around $15 which is slightly higher than most of its neighbors. also happening today lunch served to your door courtesy of uber. the ride sharing company is opening its doors launching a new on demand food service delivery in parts of san francisco but is uber buying off more than it can chew. >> stephanie chuang is going test drive this. they promise to deliver your lunch in ten minutes. >> that's the promise sam and laura. uber's trying to deliver services. it's called uber eats and it goes from 11:00 in the morning to the afternoon monday through friday. temperatures. as the high pressure continues to move to the east, we'll get more of an onshore flow and that means it will move the smoke eastward and we'll also get our morning clouds and more of a marine layer to help out with the cooling trend into the next couple of days. here's look at the trend for the try-valley it. 's been drizzling after hitting 106 degrees. by thursday we're in the mid-80s around we'll stay there. a look at that weekend forecast. looking at some temperatures that will be slightly above average for this time of year. definitely not talking highs over 100. measured change over the next couple of days and much more welcome news as we take look at this forecast. let's see how the roads are moving. >> i want to update you. nevada, eastbound, 37, counter

to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm sam brock. we start out with kari, good morning. >> we encounter fog as we head out the door, something we haven't seen. it's showing you there are changes. mist and drizzle happens now in the north bay and look at clouds just widespread but it will still be a hot day reaching 92 in the south bay. east bay, 86. and the north bay, 88 after the sunshine breaks out this afternoon. the trend continues to improve as we go through the week and as we get a look at what's happening on the roads. it looks like things are starting to get backed up in spots there. >> there's going to be a change over the next few weeks because as we receive, more school systems back online.

both are connected. >> bob, they say the two latest police shootings stem from a homicide that police say is horrific. >> correct. police say the man they shot and killed sunday night and the other man they shot and killed in this san jose nabt last night were both wanted in connection with the murder and torture of man that took place on thursday. lat night at around 7:00, police were tailing the second suspect. they tell us they had information he was armed and was about to kill his woman passenger because she knew about the involvement of last thurt's murder. they caught on. there was a chase. the suspect ended up crashing into a home on kirk haven court and then he tried to run away. >> the officers were chasing the suspect and the suspect reaches for the waistband area.

last july you may recall three bank robbers took hostages and officers were involved in a chase. over 600 rounds were fired. the stockton police department says the criticism is tough to read but it commends the bravery officers show thad day. democrats expected to bring back a bill allowing terminally ill californians to end their lives. the bill may be moving forward after all. it was shelved last month after it lacked key support. they're not sure what changed but the judge is upholding the ban. he also ruled it's an issue for the legislature to decide, not

6:44. the next stop for oscar pistorius, the digs of a relative at a mansion. now on friday he begins serving the rest of his sentence under house arrest. that will include a private gym and an outdoor swimming pool. prosecutors are still trying to overturn his original verdict and convict him of murder. he claimed he thought he was shooting an intruder. eyes up in the sky as the u.s. military is increasing its use of drones around the world. it plans to increase by 65%. they currently operate all drone

missions. this new plan would change that, assigning some combat and surveillance missions to be army and civil contractors. pentagon officials say they have been asking for more drone surveillance in places like iraq and syria as well as eastern ukraine and china. up today, jail examination is up for vote. they're scheduled to vote on plan to expand the county cense detention center. richmond leaders and many in the community are against the expansion chlg the supporters say it would provide treatment and programs for inmates. meantime a group of workers in contra costa county are asking them to cut their benefits. protesters plan to hold a meeting. they're urging them. the protest starts at 8:30 this morning in martinez.

6:4r5. they have find reached and agreement on wage and pension reform. they decided to postpone the final vote until next week. the police union approved a new deal with the city over the weekend. there's an overwhelming majority. the agreement includes raises and bonuses for officers as well as a replacement plan for the controversial measured b pension reform. the council is expected to give final approval on that deal next tuesday. >> now, this could be quite a catch for job seekers. the giant new fishing em pore yum is going to provide new jobs. you've probably seen it in san jose. it's going to be huge and they need a lot of workers today and tomorrow. they'll hold a job fair at the santa clara hilton near levi's stadium. jobs range from retailers to hourly workers. >> we found out who their new customers are going to be.

morning. is also mist and drizzle. foggy spots also as you he out the door and it's 62 degrees now in livermore. sunnydale, 61. napa, 67. and here, 57. we had a shift in the winds yesterday at this time. the wind arrows were coming in from the north. today from a southwesterly direction and it's also bringing back the marine layer, the low clouds and the winds are coming in. as the wind picks up the next couple of days the winds will be improving. now the high pressure is moving to the east and it's not bringing in the smoke from those wildfires. so don't expect the poor air

a second deadly officer-involved shooting in a 24-hour span and they say both incidents are connected. bob rendell with the new details. >> reporter: sam, within the last 36 hours police have shot and killed two men. officers shot the man after a chase after they said he'd reached for his waist barnd, though they had information he was armed, officers did not find a gun near or on him. police believe both men were connected to the torture and murder of a man thursday near the post office. officers have seen the surveillance video of the crime and see a third suspect. they've asked that man to surrender. bob redell with "today in the bay." >> thank you, bob. 6:56. kris sanchez joins us on nearly

100 wildfires burning up and down the west coast and the deployment of active-duty military. >> it's the first since 20ub 6 for a fire fight. the 200 soldiers out of tacoma will likely end up in california backfilling if firefighters so they can rest and repair ee equipment and replace seasonal firefighters who have to head back to college. they'll check burn areas for hot spots as the national guard already does now. there are three major wildfires here in california as you know. as you said, 100 in the west and all of those deployments are adding up. california spent $133 million since july 1st. the u.s. forest service is spenldsing nearly that each week and is on track to use up its entire budget by next month. in the meantime if you live in north murphy and see a lot of police or firefighters in your neighborhood this week don't panic.
