breang ws:houndsf acs srch th me thousands of acres scorched as a fast moving wildfire continues to spread from the tri-valley towards tracy. we're monitoring the latest from the front lines. and i'm racking the weather conditions for that fire. also, we're enjoying some cooler temperatures, more on that coming up in the microclimate forecast. and flames turn deadly in washington state. what we're learning about the fire that claimed the lives of three firefighters. good thursday morning. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. let's get straight to that breaking news we've been following since overnight. smoke still billowing over part of the tri-valley this morning as crews continue to battle the

tesla fire between livermore and tracy as we speak. the fast moving flames already scorched more than 2000 acres and it's not contained yet. >> we have team coverage on the fight to knock down this fire. meteorologist kari hall monitoring weather conditions but first let's go to bob redell who is live on scene tracking what's happening on the front lines. bob, any improvement? >> reporter: so far nothing new to report in terms of improvement, it's still only 5% contained, sam and kris. fortunately this is burning in an area southeast of livermore, it's a remote area where there are few people and homes. based on the wind we're feeling this morning it's definitely being pushed away from the population, the winds coming from the west pushing it to the east. cal fire still reporting 2500 acres burned, though we expected that number to grow once the firefighters get a better look in the sunlight and again, only 5% containment. now, this brush fire started yesterday afternoon around 2:30

near tesla and corral hoe low. first report was 100 acres, then 500, within four hours it quadrupled to 2000 acres. the conditions have been very dry and windy. very scary for a couple of horse ranchers who live out in that area. >> we got 16 horses out. luckily -- luckily we have plenty of rigs that can do it. that one hauled six and the rest haul four and good friends that came and family and -- >> the smoke came and the fire chief said it's time to evacuate. in ten minutes. >> reporter: those people did get out okay and as far as we mow no damage to their property. 250 firefighters working this event called the tesla fire did save several homes, they only lost a vacant structure at the carnegie motorcycle park which

is behind the road block behind me several piles down the road, we are here at greenville am tesla. they have shut down in tech of tesla road. once the sun comes up we assume according to cal fire that they will resume their air he attack as well. yesterday they had two choppers and five tankers out here. reporting live in livermore, bob redell, "today in the bay." we know that the dry windy conditions are certainly not helping with that fire fight. meteorologist kari hall with what the firefighters might face today, kari. >> it is still very windy out there. right now the humidity is at the highest point at 96% and that may help at least during the morning hours with the higher humidity. temperature also down two, it's 57 degrees, but look at the wind combusts, 35 miles per hour and it's just blowing that smoke over toward tracy and the wind will continue, a steady wind at 15 miles an hour, but once again higher gusts. looking a at all of the

microclimates we are this for cooler temperatures than we had to start out the week, that also working in their favor and we will keep you up to date on what to expect heading into the weekend adds temperatures heat up early next week as well. it's coming up in just a few minutes. stay with us as this story continues to unfold. bob will be out there all morning long, we will keep you updated on that livermore fire and fire conditions throughout the morning. when we are mott on the air we continuously update our digital platforms. crews still battling a wildfire that killed three firefighters in central washington. officials say the firefighters were involved in a car crash before the flames overtook their vehicle. this happened near the town of twisp, about four hours northeast of seattle. they were fighting a smaller if a fire when the wind shifted unexpectedly and turned back on crews. four other firefighters were injured, one of them was injured critically. two towns are under evacuation orders which butt about 1,000

for someone to take their life. a long road to a suicide barrier is about to get a little shorter. board district members approved the new barrier, price tag expected to run a little over $70 million and take three years to build. in meetings planned for today and tomorrow the board is expected to i approve the first real funding to hire a project consultant. construction likely wouldn't start until the spring. a new push begins today to improve safety on one of san francisco's most dangerous traffic corridors. city leaders will help launch the upper market street safety project designed to make streets on market between octavia and castro safer for cyclists and pedestrians. new safety measures will include bolder crosswalk, painted safety zones and more no right on red restrictions for drivers. >> we talked earlier about the firefighting conditions out on the front lines of the wildfire, but you also have to get your kids out, get yourself out, so what's the weather like for the rest of us?

>> it is looking nice. we are starting out with the clouds and temperatures in the lower 60s this morning some mid 60s on the peninsula, north bay at 59 degrees, here is a look at the highs this afternoon, in san jose 83 degrees, palo alto 78 degrees, castro will be at 67 today and 79 degrees in novato. concord 84 and also 84 in danville. we are looking at more comfortable weather for today and the next few days. more on that coming up in a few minutes. let's check the traffic with mike. the live look shows you flashing lights east and westbound right around tas that are ra and el charro. they're clearing this area. we're seeing the big slow drive we had but speeds are improving as they are removing the road crew. you're talking about the tesla fire, that's over here closer to 205 and 580. for most of the drivers it's not even a consideration. 580 drive it's not a problem, no smoke or visibility issues.

very, very upsetting to see. >> stephanie chuang live in burlingame where investigators are asking for help in had building a criminal case against her. steph, initially you can say maybe had woman she had to brab the dog quickly but then you see more of the video and that's apparently not the case. >> reporter: yeah, that's right, kris and sam. we are here at the peninsula humane society and spca which say this is not the first time they have gotten a complaint about this woman. just a warning and you saw a little bit of it already the video you are about to see is disturbing and the investigators pointing to the woman in this video saying that she runs a dog walking and dog sitting business in burlingame. in the video you see her pick a dog by the neck and a slam the dog to the ground at least twice. the humane society says that was a client's dog and it's not the first time they have heard about this woman and complaints about this woman and now it's asking for help in building a criminal case against her. >> that neighbor and another

neighbor previously over the last ten years but we never had any real solid evidence until we received that video clip. >> reporter: the humane society says after getting and seeing that video it took 11 dogs from this woman, three of them are her own. the humane society and spca say they will not return those three dogs this will she can prove they will be safe. the woman has not been charged with a crime so investigators are not releasing her name nor the name of her business. she works in a neighborhood behind burlingame high school. something else that's important is investigators want to find the dog owner to make sure that it is okay. they say that that kind of action can actually make the dog suffer some broken bones so again some concern there as well. live here in burlingame, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> people generally rise to the occasion when it comes to the safety of animals. >> that poor animal. 4:42. up next, slave labor is it responsible for putting food on

and then the winds start to pick up as the clouds roll in later on today. hot, high pressure moving away from us. great news as we head into the weekend, but it will be a warm one. warm, but at least mott sizzling with highs in the 70s and 80s in san francisco, around 70 degrees in the city and the rest of the weekend is looking nice all across the bay. let's see how the roads are moving now with mike. you're talking about the low clouds being there and i trust you they are but it's not being an issue as far as they are not appearing between the emeryville camera and our bay bridge. we are able to show you that clear drive and clear view of that tower. that's beautiful. we will look at your map. actually a beautiful commute on the approach on the maze and east shore freeway, north bay not showing any delays. coming across the benicia is bridges, antioch has not started that slowing. san jose northbound 101, we're going to seasoned you to the maps and show you there are no problems for the south bay.

theaters: they have begun searching bags and backpacks. it comes after deadly shootings inside theaters in colorado and louisiana. riegel entertainment group owns almost 600 theaters across the country. in the bay area that includes berkeley, oakland, dublin, san ramone and san francisco all of which have regal theaters. safer nail salons in san francisco is the goal of a special task force created to protect mail technicians who work with toxic chemicals. advocates for nail salon workers will join david chu to launch the so-called helping thals salon task force. it focuses on educating a long owners and technicians on alternatives to toxic chemicals that are currently in use. heading to the capital? the new drive begins in sacramento who repair roads across california. lawmakers gathered for a special session called by governor brown. the governor pushing for major repairs on roads, bridges, ports and other infrastructure. the question, of course, how are you going to pay for it all?

it gets lighter out it might be hard to gauge how much progress they've made. >> reporter: well, and also a breeze out here, i don't know puck tell from our camera angle but there is definitely a gust here which is not helpful for the roughly 250 firefighters who are trying to put out this fast moving wild land fire that's burning several miles down the road here from this road block here at tesla and greenville in livermore, but it is blowing east away from the population. cal fire reports they only have 5% containment on this fire that has already burned 2,5 a 00 acres. we expect an update once the sun comes up and the battalion chiefs can get a better handle. the priority for the firefighters has been to save and protect life and property. >> we're just trying to get ahead of the fire. back there you've seen a couple structures that have burned and our crews were able to save three of them. >> we did lose one
