on the plaza. a nice crowd out there to see her. so a lot of fun and bears. >> yeah. >> you don't get that everywhere. >> that's right. we'll get outside in a little while. let's start this morning with two major stories tied to the weather out west. high temperatures will make for another very difficult day for those crews battling wildfires in the atlantic. danny the first hurricane of the season is churning. we'll find out where that storm is headed in a moment. first, we have the drastic measures being taken to fight wildfires in washington state. good morning you to, miguel. >> matt, good morning. they're calling in help from as far as new zeile land and australia. for the first time ever here in washington state, they're asking for volunteers, anyone that can drive heavy machinery asked to come here and help out on the front lines. this fire is still dangerous. there is new evacuations late last night and it's now the deadliest fire this year in washington. >> reporter: overnight, multiplying in size, the fire that took three lives is still

moving in multiple directions. officials say the forest service firefighters who died survived a vehicle accident but lost their lives in the flames. tom zbyszewski loved life and people. >> he's a special kid. i'm really going to miss tom. >> andrew zajac was married to a firefighter. a scientists committed to the environment. richard wheeler, 31, was a veteran with ten years on the fire lines and a young husband. daniel lion is one of four firefighters hurt wednesday, suffering burns over most of his body. the 25-year-old fighting for his life. >> he adores this community. he's been just a great, great child. >> reporter: late thursday, a

procession to hohn yort men they call heroes as firefighters push on while taking time to remember the fallen. the government is now spending $150 million a week on fire suppression and this fact. 46 million homes or 40% of homes in the u.s. are at risk for potential wildfire. going to be a long day on the front lines. matt? back to you. >> thank you very much. >> now to the other major weather story this morning, danny, the first hurricane of the atlantic season. good morning. >> good morning, this is a very small compact storm. hurricane-force winds extend 10 miles out from the center of the storm. it's moving over very warm water right now. winds are at 85 miles per hour making it a category one. it should remain as a category 1 storm for a couple days. then it moves into an environment that is going to rip it apart. by the time it makes its way through the leeward islands, it should be a tropical storm.

by tuesday morning, it's near puerto rico and makes its way to the dominican republic with winds at 45 miles per hour. these are the upper level winds. they're basically and essentially going to rip this whole storm apart. also drier air will wrap in. so that is a very unfavorable environment for tropical system. it should weak ton a tropical storm. and actually this could be the best case scenario for puerto rico. they're in an extreme drought right now. they had almost about 10.7 inches below average since the beginning of the year. so they can really use some rain. that is what you'll get with a tropical system. you're not dealing with the damaging winds that you see from a much bigger storm. this could be good news for puerto rico as long as they don't get the mudslides because of the dry conditions. a tropical storm should bring adequate rain. >> possible silver lining. >> exactly. >> thank you very much. going to be quite a scene in mobile, alabama, when donald trump holds what is expected to be the biggest rally of the presidential campaign so far. ticket demand is so high the

event is moved from an indoor arena to a stadium that can hold 50,000 people. nbc's katie turr is there. good morning you to. >> reporter: good morning. if the turnout is as big as it is expected to be, it's going to be the biggest rally so far yet of this campaign season. 36,000 people have rsvp'd for this event meaning they had to move night the football stadium from the original location. 36,000 people, also 1/5 of the entire population of mobile, alabama, this in a state whose governor has already endorsed someone else. jeb bush is coming out swinging, questioning trump's credentials saying he's a democrat longer thço=u?ui(qq' a republican. even getting into a scuffle with babies on the radio. >>, no i didn't. i don't regret it. >> you don't regret it? >> no. do you have a better term?

adviser e-mailed a federal judge scolded the former secretary of state who was not present saying we wouldn't be here today if the employee had followed government policy, an indication he thinks clinton broke the rules. this come as the fbi is in the process of trying to recover some of the data that was wiped from clinton's private server. for the first time, a representative from the i.t. company that provided that server spoke out. >>. >> were you aware of the sensitive possible classified material on this server? >> no. i mean, the job of an i.t. company in a capacity is to manage and we don't look at the data. we manage it and protect it. >> reporter: several democrats tell nbc news they're getting jittery as the democratic front-runner struggles to respond. >> did you wipe the server? >> like with, a cloth or something? no. her attempt at humor seeming to fall short. >> you may have seen that i

recently launched a snapchat account. i love it. i love it. those messages disappear all by themselves. >> reporter: the controversy making her an easy target for republicans. >> she's got big problems. i don't know. what is hillary going to do about hillary? >> it is also fueling the moment for joe biden to join the race, a majority of democrats, 53%, say they want biden to run. the super pac draft biden is ramping up. >> he is well liked across the aisle much as he makes a decision to get in there, i'm confident they will mount a real effort. >> reporter: now back to that e-mail issue, the clinton campaign is releasing a new video this morning called scandal fact check. this is yet another effort by the campaign to ramp up the damage control. clinton is scheduled to testify about all of this in october and aides are hoping that will allow clinton to turn the page. but there is no guarantee given the fbi is investigating and there's no end in sight to that

after the explosion. it unnerved everyone who heard it. residents are in shock this morning after the possible gas explosion that blew out several floors of jfk high school. the blast so powerful, the entire neighborhood felt it. >> the whole house shook. i thought the house was going to fall down. >> reporter: custodians say they were returning from their break moments before. >> we heard an explosion and a quick flash. >> reporter: authorities say construction crews were working on a science lab on the sixth floor. three contractors were injured. one critically. >> we are dealing with the immediate situation securing the building and immediate area. continuing the clean up and beginning the investigation. >> reporter: it comes just days after a gas explosion levelled a motel 6 in bremerton, washington, critically injuring one person. in new york, authorities are

still investigating what caused the accident at the high school. with classes set to begin in less than three weeks, there's little time to waste. >> what caused the explosion? we do not know that yet. we will certainly get to the bottom of it. >> reporter: and inspectors will check for structure damage today. if that goes well, repairs could begin soon. that means school could start on time next month for the 4,000 students who attend classes here. natalie. >> rehema ellis in the bronx. thank you. some frightening moments in los angeles thursday night after an explosion rocked a building downtown. it happened in the underground section of the 19 story high-rise. two people sent to the hospital. the cause of the explosion is under investigation. officials believe a generator was involved. the blast also knocked out power at the shania twain concert at the staples center. caitlyn jenner could face a manslaughter charge after the deadly traffic accident in

♪ 7:30 now on a friday morning. the 21st of august, 2015. we had a couple of showers in the northeast overnight. here in new york city early this morning, they seemed to have passed for the time being. we have a great crowd outside waiting on the concert from carly rae jepsen. and another large gathering topping the headlines. donald trump's campaign rolls into mobile, alabama. the frontrunner will hold a massive pep rally at a football stadium. more than 30,000 people are expected to attend. here in new york, three construction workers suffered injuries in an explosion at a high school in the bronx.

the cause of the blast is under investigation. officials say they were working on a gas line at the time. engineers are being brought in to see if the building will open in time for the start of the new school year. how bad are the wildfires out west? for the first time, officials in washington state are asking for volunteers to help firefighters pushed to their limits. crews are called in from australia and new zealand. and coming up, two trailblazers. we will hear from the first women to complete the army's grueling ranger school as they get ready for the graduation ceremony. let's start with the deadly crash for caitlyn jenner and the charges she could face. we have nbc's joe fryer with more. >> reporter: good morning, matt. the prosecutors will decide if caitlyn jenner should be charged with misdemeanor manslaughter.

this is stemming from a crash six months ago before jenner announced she was transitioning to a woman. caitlyn jenner in the spotlight this morning about the multicar crash. the investigators say the car jenner was driving was too fast for the prevailing conditions. although jenner was driving below the posted speed limit. it happened in february. the cadillac was pulling a vehicle on a trailer driving on the pacific coast highway in malibu. the footage obtained by tmz shows jenner was unable to stop in time and rear-ended two cars. one car was pushed into traffic and struck by a hummer. the driver of the lexus, 69-year-old kim howell was killed. the l.a. county sheriff's office says the district attorney's office will determine, what if any, will be charged in the case or if there will be a request

for further investigation. >> there are three factors that the d.a.'s office will look at. three sets of facts. number one, caitlyn's conduct and speed and the flow of traffic and what other people were doing on the road. >> reporter: jenner's team declined to comment on the report. she released a statement saying my heart felt deepest sympathy for all involved in the accident. i am praying for them. an issue of to charge jenner or not charge jenner would take weeks. she is facing lawsuits from the family. matt. >> we have ari moore with the latest here for us on the story. we hear that jenner was driving below the posted speed limit. according to the sheriff's office, speed was a factor.

i guess they saying she did not reduce speed enough given the conditions. that is subjective? >> that is right. there is not an automatic law violated. you are going 55 in a 20. that is not the legal standard. >> there is no mathematical equation in in that. there is no sign that when roads are wet, reduce speeds 20% or something like that. >> that is right. you will have a strong case to say we know this person made a mistake. we know the accident was terrible. >> she could be guilty of bad judgment, but hard to determine if she broke the law. >> that is why it is a misdemeanor, up to a year, where it is pursued. >> it is also a misdemeanor because there was no intent to harm anyone? >> that's right. accidents are a bad thing and we

know that. the law is to indicate that. >> on the criminal side, ari, the worst-case scenario, she will spend a year in a county jail? >> that is rare. you know, matt, is this celebrity getting special treatment? the truth in most kinds of car accidents, people don't go to jail at all. >> let's ask about the civil side of this. a civil suit that caitlyn jenner is facing. would you filing of the misdemeanor charges against her have an impact on the civil trial? >> it could. her lawyers could say let's get this out of the way if all they have to do is pay for it. the civil trial has a lower standard. if you are anywhere in the ballpark of criminal charges, you probably will fare worse in the civil standard. >> msnbc's ari melber. thank you. let's get a check of the weather with al in abu dhabi.

he is under arrest now facing drunk driving charges. today's a key deadline for oakland's new coliseum city plan, but don't expect any major announcements. oakland has an exclusive development deal for a massive new project that may house one of two stadiums. but when the raiders updated the nfl last week on their southern california plan, oakland indicated it likely would not have a new plan in place until next month at the earliest. we'll take a look at traffic and weather coming up after the break.

good friday morning. i'm meteorologist kari hall. as we get a live look now at the castro. we do see the low clouds still hanging overhead, but some breaks in the clouds inland as our temperatures warm up to now 68 degrees in livermore. san jose 64 degrees. expect a high of 78 in saratoga. palo alto 76 degrees. san francisco stays in the 60s. and the north bay in the 70s and lower 80s. also some 80s in the tri-valley as well as the east bay.

now mike's tracking a slowdown over the golden gate bridge. yeah, kari, i think some of that slowdown might be related to some of the cooling we have as well. might be limited visibility just on the north side of the span. but it was very slow up until about two minutes ago on the san francisco side heading north. so we'll track that. on the maps we see the sensors slow there, also slow off lombard. mornings will tend to do that and afternoons because it's friday and a lot of folks try to get out of town. easier drive through the east bay but west 580 where an earlier crash one lane blocked. south bay starting to clear. back to you. >> more local news coming up in just a half hour. we'll see you soon.
