it's 65 degrees. expect a high in the east bay of 80 degrees, 75 in san francisco, check out the north bay, 92 degrees, 90 in the south bay and the tri-valley near 100 degrees today. i will talk more about that, what to expect even as we head into the weekend coming up let's get a look at the commute. we will also go to the tri-valley but we are looking at 580 westbound moves smoothly but you to have company here. we will look at your map. we are lighting up some of the sensors from green to yellow coming into livermore, just the build. a slight one coming this it westbound as you typically see. tri-valley no problem. the south bay no issues as far as incidents go. we have a smooth drive, that crash at whipple still affects a the off ramp from northbound 101. though to our continuing coverage on the tv news crew shooting in virginia. a community in mourning after two journalists are killed doing what they loved. both were preparing to begin exciting new chapters this their personal lives when the alleged gunman, vester flanagan, opened

"today in the bay" stephanie chuang is live in our san francisco newsroom. this morning we are hearing emotional reactions from the family members and friends of those two victims. >> reporter: that's right. and it's it you have to hear. we heard from alison parker the reporter's boyfriend an anchor at the same station in virginia. he was recalling the last time he made her dinner and september her off with a can kiss to work yesterday morning. alison parker 24 years old and adam ward 27 years old were interns in wdbj. a morning news team working together every day. ward was engaged to the morning show producer who was in the control room at the time that he and parker were gunned down on live television. reporter alison parker and her boyfriend, kris hurst, that anchor, had just moved in together. this morning hurst described what keeps him going describe

the tragedy that struck a day ago. >> two of us died yesterday in this this business and we feel a sense is of duty to share their life and celebrate their life. in this arena for us deals maybe more comfortable than others because this is what we to do every single day. >> reporter: now, take a look at this post, this is from melissa ott she is that producer engaged to adam ward. this is what she foesed on facebook where he had saying things like my entire world was flipped upside down, calling him her soul mate and saying i will always love you, please watch over me and keep my strong. parker's father releasing a statement, he said that his soul was absolutely crushed but he was comforted by the fact that although her life was brief she had a very happy life. scholarships are being established in memory of both parker and ward to leave some sort of legacy behind for the two whose lives were cut short yesterday morning. live here in our san francisco

newsroom, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." a crime that's still sending shock waves across the country. there are tears and pain in the bay area. the gunman, vester flanagan, grew up this oakland, went to san francisco state, now his family is expressing their remorse and sadness over those tragic deaths. >> vester flanagan known as bryce williams in some television markets interned at kpix after receiving a degree am television and radio at san francisco state. his last listed bay area address was in vallejo where he lived for several years near his father, investor sr. a former nfl football player but the 41-year-old grew up in oakland where he attended public school. yesterday a family friend delivered a message from the flanagan family. >> it is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we express our deepest condolences to the families of alison parker and adam ward. our thoughts and prayers at this time are with the victims' families. >> flanagan worked several tell

vision jobs, he ended up at wdbj in virginia in 2012, but was reportedly fired the mention year after incidents of anger. >> shortly after the shooting the gunman posted his video of the murders for millions of facebook and twitter users to see. that video was captured on the body camera he wore during the shooting. we are only showing you a freeze frame, it showed the shooter's perspective and horrified social media users. >> as twisted as that sounds, social media savvy on part of this this killer. that is a terrible, terrible thing to consider. >> that was obviously a very impactful video but it was only up for 10 or 15 minutes, it was quickly discovered and taken down by facebook and twitter. san francisco state associate broadcast professor miriam smith does not see how more could have been done to stop it. >> how could you -- how could you regulate everything?

"today in the bay" kris sanchez joins us live from santa clara where the hunt for that driver continues this morning. >> reporter: good morning. the hunt for the driver continues this morning and the watching of the hot spots as you mentioned it is here behind me, you can see it's completely destroyed, the poinciana plaza. here is a look at the scene by daylight, gas fueled that fire for more than four hours. pg&e did not cap that line

immediately because they didn't want to cut service to all the pokes who live here in this dense area of poinciana drive just north of el cam know. now a restaurant, bar, lawned row matt and liquor store are gone in ashes in what seemed like a heartbeat to the people who live here. >> it was a big, big -- very -- like a bomb. >> it moved fast. within half an hour the whole shopping center was on fire. >> reporter: now, one of the business owners says that a man in the parking lot alerted people that they needed to get out and away from the fire so that did help to mitigate the danger for the folks that were here and yet one firefighter and one person inside that laundromat did suffer minor injuries. today investigators will continue looking through surveillance video from a business in the area look to see if the license plate of that white honda civic was captured on video so that they have a better idea of who they're tracking. but again, firefighters remain on the scene here in santa clara this morning. in santa clara, kris sanchez,

"today in the bay." it is 5:06. another mess for the 49ers. one player has been sent home and a former player is charged with raping a drunk woman. late yesterday the santa clara county da charged ray mcdonald after a grand jury indicted i'm with rape charges. this is video of mcdonald leaving jail earlier this year after domestic violence charges. he is now accused of raping a woman at a san jose home last december. >> i think the grand jury was convinced by the testimony of the victim in in this case that what took place between her and mr. mcdonald was mott something that she wished to take place. >> mcdonald claims the woman had consensual sex several times with him had. he now faces a maximum of eight years in prison if convicted. the other part of this had story involves a current player, ahmad brooks. he is charged with misdemeanor sexual battery against the same woman on the same night. this is brooks' third run-in with the law since 2008.

campaign trail, candidates are making another push this week to get the votes they need to be the nominee. >> there are 17 republicans trying to get that nod, but this morning a new democrat might enter the race. "today in the bay's" edward lawrence live in washington with more. another name to learn, edward. >> reporter: it's getting very interesting and within the last hour there's actually a new poll that's come out nationally that shows among democrat voters hillary clinton's lead is actually slipping. last month she was at 55% of voters, now she is at 45% of voters. second in that race is senator bernie sanders at 22% and joe biden who hasn't entered the race is at 18% of democrat voters if he got into the race. hillary clinton is talking about that possibility of some competition. she is saying that she knew to get the election or to get the nod on the democrat's side it would be very competitive. she campaigned am in iowa, for the first time she is talking about the possibility of joe biden entering the race saying

that he needs space to decide if he really wants to run because of what his family went through this year. she picked up big endorsements from the former governor ever iowa and current secretary of agriculture. the candidates from both parties flooded iowa and new hampshire with events. senator marco rubio told workers in new hampshire that he will not use a the term anchor babies. he also added that donald trump would the not be the nominee because republicans need someone to looks forward. jeb bush held an event in florida looking for common ground among pro choice voters. in that national poll on the republican side donald trump is increasing his lead. he went from 20% last month to 28% now. he has more than doubled the next republican in line, that's ben cars aen at 12%. edward lawrence, back to you. >> it's amazing to see those numbers climb. >> and they will change we think in the weeks and months to come. finally after dropping for six straight days wall street appears to be bouncing back.

friday. it will be 40,000 items available for the plan including 500 "star wars" related products which will hit stores next week. walmart is trying to get a jump start on the holidays which are expected to be ultra competitive. gap is ending a controversial practice that give workers little ortho notice about their schedules. they stopped using so-called on day scheduling by the end of september and will give employees a 10 to 14 day notice. they got a warning letter from the new york attorney general's office saying such practices violated state law. back over to you. >> sam still hung up on that "star wars" all the new thing coming out and so is everyone else. >> 1,600 "star wars" products. i'm hung up on the fact we're talking about the holidays already. >> it's still august, right is this? >> yes, it. it is august. and it feels like august. >> it doesn't feel like christmas just yet.

>> not at all. maybe a little bit this this weekend in the mornings as we get ready for cooler air to move in this and it is going to be very nice. let's take a look jut side now in san jose skies are clear as a you head out the door and we will start out with some cool temperatures, but it will heat up and fast today. a look at what it feels like now as you walk out the door, it's in the mid 60s in the east bay, peninsula, south bay, north bay at 53 degrees, mostly clear skies. here is where we're head this had this afternoon. 92 degrees north bay, south bay 90 degrees, east bay 80 today, peninsula 85, the tri-valley will be up to 99 degrees later on this afternoon. so is get ready for that. if you are heading out to the giants game it will be warm. at first pitch it will be 71 degrees, 73 degrees by the fifth inning and the end of the game 67 degrees, but a nice warm sun and a cool breeze. speaking of a cool breeze, this is what we're expecting this weekend, this storm system that

is offshore will bring this this some cooler air and you can tell by the lines here, it shows the wind direction bringing us an on-shore flow heating up the next couple of days but this will bring a slight chance of rain and breezy winds. into the day tomorrow won't be as hot, have more clouds during the afternoon ahead of that system. then we actually see some green here. that indicates there could be some rain. that will be saturday morning, mainly for the north bay early in the morning and then it clears out during the afternoon as our temperatures drop. a look at some of those temperatures, some of the rainfall estimates, it will be maybe a raindrop or two, very trace amounts unfortunately it won't do anything about the drought, but the temperatures that will follow will be mice and cool, in the 70s and 80s across the bay. let's get a look at the commute with mike. do you see how precise kari is s one or two rain drops. that's outstanding. we're looking towards san jose,

authorities say the suspect who has not been identified stabbed three women inside a home and also shot an officer arriving on scene. the officer along with one of the stabbing victims later died. after the shooting the suspect drove off and eventually rammed into the front of a nearby minimart. he then barricaded himself inside an office. officers were eventually able to to take him into custody. >> from college student to international icon. now a hero's welcome am in sacramento for the college student credited with saving a trainful of people. >> i'm glad to be back here to see everybody, it's overwhelming for me, i didn't expect all this to happen. >> he has handled it with a lot of composure. anthony sadler is one of three californians who helped take town a terror suspect on a paris bound train last week. he is a senior at sacramento state university who was hon berd by sacramento's mayor.

just waiting to go boom. colleagues describe alison parker and adam ward as special people. the kind who were up before sunrise to put am long hours reporting the thus. their off camera lives were just as busy. park had moved in with her boyfriend, ward engaged to be married. >> if i walked into the office in the morning and the first person i saw was adam or alison i got a smile on my face. >> they were interviewing a local official live wednesday morning or cbs a fill wrat wdbj when authorities say vester lee flanagan a former colleague opened fire, killing parker and ward. he also filmed the shooting and posted it to social media later as he was pursued by police before he eventually turned the gun on himself. >> it's obvious that there was -- this gentleman was disturbed in some way of the way things had transpired at some point if this his life and it would appear things were spiraling out of control.

>> reporter: flanagan who was fired from the station two years ago went by the name bryce williams when he worked there. management describes him as an angry floi. >> after a while, a number had of incident we thought it was best he left the company and he did, but not happily. we had to get some assistance from the police to get him out of here. >> reporter: meanwhile, a growing memorial outside wdbj is focused on the lives of parker and ward. late wednesday the community came together to mourn their loss. the station used to covering the news now the center of a tragic story of its own. the woman being interviewed at the time of the shooting was also hit, she is now in stable condition. meanwhile, they have began -- they started to establish shol after ships in the dmams of the victims one i way to keep their legacies alive. back to you. >> thank you, sara. meantime, there's also pain and tears being felt in the bay area. the gunman grew up here.

"today in the bay" stephanie chuang live in our san francisco newsroom with more on how his family is reeking over these tragic deaths. >> reporter: family friend reading a statement on behalf of the family yesterday saying it expresses its diepest condolences to the family of the victims sending prayers and thoughts their way. now, vester flanagan grew up mostly in oakland but also a little time in vallejo, went to san francisco state, graduating in 1995 with a degree in radio and tv. he started ace career as an intern and production assistant at kpix. he was in and out of news for years, also living in texas and georgia with stints in customer service at bank of america and pg&e. he was described by former neighbors and a family friend here in the bay area as a soft-spoken gentle giant. his former thab in vallejo says he knew flanagan simply as mark. >> he was always very nice to my wife and i and i would never are

through surveillance video from a convenience sore just down the way hoping that perhaps that surveillance camera captured the license plate of that white honda accord they are looking for this morning. they want to talk to that driver who hit the gas line and fled the scene. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." happening today a dog sit isser caught on camera abusing a dog will be in court this morning to face animal cruelty charges. now, a warning, the video we are about to show you is very it disturbing to watch. prosecutors say listened la levick is the woman in this video, she picks up the dog in her care and slams it to the ground. levick is a dog sitter and after seeing the video workers from the humane society and spca went to her home and seized 11 dogs in her care. the dog in the video is doing okay. a plea hearing for a san jose city worker charged with sharing lewd photos with a 15-year-old girl. police say he lured her into a

relationship through social media. now officers want to know if 25-year-old mark joseph west took advantage of other girls he met through her job at camden center gym. he was arrested am this july after a six-month relationship with the girl. >> former chinatown gang leader raymond chow in court later today trying to get his case dismissed. his attorneys will argue that charges should be dropped all together because the government is selectively prosecuting him. chow is set to stand trial on federal racketeering charges in in november. he and even other defendants are accused of allegedly running a crime investigation with links to former state senator leland yee. a pistol whipping delayed bart trains last night. they got a call about a man striking a woman with a gun on the train. they arrested that suspect. the woman suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. san francisco can now allow
