once again. take a look at this east bay number. this is right now. it is 72 degrees. in the in the north bay it's 63 degrees and here are the highs today. up to 81 degrees in the east bay, the north bay at 93 degrees, the tri-valley 95 and the south bay 92 degrees. now, it does come down a few more degrees from yesterday and a big cool down is on the way tomorrow. i will talk about that. let's get a look at traffic with mike. we are looking over here at a nice view of the bay bridge. actually the opposite angle you showed from your shot from the oakland side. it -- same side, different angle. the taillights into san francisco easy drive. look at your map over in san francisco, van ness just off 101 there is an early morning crash still on the blotter, may still be activity but no slowing there. the rest of your bay looking as you would expect an easy light drive. now to new details on a dale earnhart, sr. rauk testify apartment fire in san mateo.

morning we know who the weapon belonged to. this and wednesday morning at a shopping center in oakland. we now know the weapon belonged to a hayward police officer. also this is the third time a local law enforcement officer's gun has been stolen this this summer. last friday someone broke into the car of a uc berkeley police chief as she was jogging in richmond. am june someone stole a federal agent he's gun in san francisco. a bullet from that gun ultimately killed kate steinle along the san francisco embarcadero. more buses and for rains coming more often. just some of the changes being promised to muni riders starting next month. it's part of phase two of the muni forward program. the first phase kicked off in april with boosted service on muni's biggest and busiest routes. this round focuses on improving connections between neighborhoods across the city as well as increasing service on eight cross town lines. that should result in shorter waits for about 140,000 muni

happening today, taking a closer look at a lifesaving drug with heroin use exploding in san francisco, police are arm aing themselves with a new tool. >> today we will learn more about how it works. "today in the bay" stephanie chuang live in our san francisco news room. steph, we understand the department actually says it's working, they are out there trying it. >> reporter: that's right. they're in the middle of a pilot program and already police say this this summer an officer saved a man's life, a man who almost overdosed. is so we're talking about a drug called narcan or naloxone and it's trying to fight this heroin problem that's plaguing san francisco's streets. you can find a lot of need else in plain sight and everywhere in the city.

public health officials say the use of heroin is on the rise because of a crack down on prescriptions for ain't killers so now those people are moving to street heroin and that is where naloxone or narcan come in. out reach groups are training police officers on how to use narcan with a nasal kit which reverses the effects of an overdose. >> let's save you from the overdose. we train law enforcement because 75% of the time they are first responders. >> reporter: and the public health department says narcan use it up in san francisco. in july of this this year it reversed 75 overdoses and that's compared to 25 in july of last year. this this afternoon sfpd will demonstrate using narcan or naloxone. there is one more thing that's happening that's hit san francisco that's got public health officials worried. we have more on that in our next

kari. >> okay. well, it's going to be hot today, kind of like yesterday, a few degrees cooler, but had this weekend is going to be awesome so i think we are all looking forward to cooler weather and turning the air conditioner off. as we take a live look right now it at the bay bridge we do see nice quiet conditions and not a whole lot going on just yet. let's take a look at those numbers and what it feels like outside as you head out. it is 67 degrees in the south bay, 68 degrees in the peninsula, normally it's about 10 degrees cooler but we are starting out with mild weather and you know it's going to be a hot day. in the east bay it will be up to 81 degrees and in the tri-valley still fairly hot, up to 95 degrees, in the south bay 92 degrees, san francisco will be at 77, north bay 93 and the peninsula at 85. into the weekend, though, there will be some major changes headed this way. this is what the cloud cover could look like across the bay area. we start to see more clouts moving in tonight and then check that out there could be some

rain early tomorrow morning, especially in the north bay. starts to move up around santa rosa and fizzles out as it moves to the south. maybe a few sprinkles up around that way before the temperatures really ool off. here is a look at what the computer models are doing with the estimated main, only showing trace amounts of rain, but it will be better than nothing. of course, we're keeping an eye on tropical storm erica. this weekend we will have that as the major headline. for us had will be much cooler temperatures moving in, feeling all this comfortable weather with highs in the 70s and 80s across the bay. let's get a look at that commute with mike. we will look at the golden gate bridge where we don't yet have that crew moving that center divide, still three lanes marked on the side heading north. looking over toward the north bay, san rafael, also easy southbound, 101 not a problem, easy drive novato in toward san francisco. the map will show you that stretch for 101. moving through the city the

about 3:45 this morning. officers reportedly tried to pull over a car in saratoga, the driver took off heading fort on highway 101, reaching speeds over 100 powers. officers say the driver eventually stopped on their own near candlestick. officers took that driver and a passenger into custody. pg&e finds itself in a familiar spot underneath the microscope. state regulators are investigating pg&e's corporate culture and safety record. the state's public utilities commission approved that investigation yesterday. the san bruno explosion killed eight people and leveled an entire neighborhood. investigators blame the blast on shoddy maintenance and flawed recordkeeping. happening today, santa clara county leaders are going to be speaking out for equal pay for women. santa clara county supervisors dave cortez skblchlt i and cindy chavez will call for measures to close the gender pay gap this in
