it is tuesday, the first day of september. coming up. 150 of hillary clinton's newly released emails now contain classified information. new details surrounding a suspected killer involved in the execution of a texas lawman. president obama gets tough on climate change, warning the world acts now or risk as nightmare. plus startling information about college kids and marijuana. and wall street's wild ride may not be over. the state department has released a biggest trove of hillary clinton's emails, mother than 7,000 pages of the former secretary of state's private email accounts have been made public. it's estimated that 150 of those emails contained classified

information. however, none of the emails were classified at the time clinton sent or received them. nbc's tracie potts is live in washington with more. what do we know about the new batch? >> we're learning that not only is this a lot of emails, but also that some of them you're just simply not going to see. can you go online, the state department has posted them. but in some cases you're only going to see who sent the email, who received the email and the entire email has been redacted. other cases, the conversation is there, but some of the names have been redacted. as you said, these emails were not classified at the time. they are now marked confidential. which is the lowest level of classification, that's been a concern here on capitol hill. particularly among republicans, whether she knew she was sending classified information. and of course, the former secretary of state has denied that. the thousands of emails come amid a midnight deadline to get more of this information out. in a statement the state

department says they're on track, to have all of the emails out by the end of january, which is what a court has ordered. right now looking through the emails we're seeing some where she talks about deleting them after reading. some where she's frustrated wither she can't get information. that turned out to be at least partially classified. and other emails that deal with iran and russia, and israel and other hot spots around the world. >> tracie, thank you. we're learning new details about the execution-style murder of a houston area sheriffs deputy. shannon miles, the man accused of shooting the deputy appeared in front of a judge yesterday. according to prosecutors, deputy goforth was shot 15 times and detectives say the shell casings from the scene match the gun found in miles' garage. >> he unloaded the entire weapon into deputy goforth. when the deputies recovered the pistol in the garage, it was loaded again. >> we have learned that the miles has a history of mental

illness. in 2012 he got into an altercation with another man and was ordered to spend time in a texas mental hospital. while heading to alaska yesterday, the president called the widow of deputy goforth and offered condolences and the president released a statement condemning the attack. saying in part a targeting police officers is unacceptable. a sentencing phase begins late they are morning for the white supremicist who shot and killed three people last year at two jewish centers in kansas. frasier cross also known as glen miller has been convicted of capital murder. after deliberating for just two hours yesterday, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. now the jury will decide whether or not he gets the death penalty. the 74-year-old testified in his own defense last week, telling the jury he wanted to kill as many jews as possible. after being convicted cross reportedly gave a nazi salute inside the courtroom. a new poll finds donald trump may be looking over his

shoulder in iowa at a surging surgeon. dr. ben carson is now tied with trump among likely republican caucusgoers at 23%. carly fiorina is in third. none of them have ever held elective office. none of the establishment candidates are seeing a lead. a separate poll finds 59% of primary voters prefer donald trump to 34% for jeb bush. donald trump is trailing ben carson, 49-43. forceful new language from president obama on global warming. he opened a glacier conference in alaska with a bluntal eng to fellow world leaders. >> we're not moving fast enough if we stop trying to build a clean energy economy and reduce

carbon pollution, if we do nothing to keep glaciers from melting faster and oceans from rising fasters and forests from burning faster and storms from growing stropger will we will condemn our children to a planet beyond their capacity to repair. >> the president is launching a social media blitz with his travelog posted to facebook. maybe the most interesting part of the week, the president will be part of a recording of nbc's running wild with bear grylz to highlight climate change. and police responded to a call at the wrong house. according to a public safety director, officers got a call about a burglary in progress, they went to the wrong address because the caller only gave a description of the home, not an actual address. shortly after police arrived, there was gunfire. >> it appears that the officers

came here with the intent based on the information that they had, of a suspicious person being in and around the residence in question. and it was later determined that the home that we did go to was the wrong address. >> the homeowner, an officer and a dog were shot. no word on the condition of the homeowner. the dog died. in massachusetts, a college party got out of hand when somebody was pushed off a roof. cell phone video shows a girl dancing on a garage roof when a man pushed her right off. fortunately the girl landed in the arms of partygoers, she walked away with bruises, but declined medical attention. police arrested the 20-year-old man on charges of assault and disorderly conduct. he appeared in court on monday, entering a plea of not guilty. check out this amazing drone video of a flash flood in southern utah on sunday, a massive thunderstorm dropped two and a half inches of rain causing a fast-moving river of

olympics, not out of the question for a shower in seattle. the futurecast for today, the tropical moisture flow continues further east today. so not looking too much in the phoenix area. maybe tucson. but definitely on the border of new mexico and arizona, back up into the mountains of colorado. some hit-and-miss showers and storms, we're tracking our hurricanes out in the pacific. ignacio close to hilo. and jiminez peaked out yesterday close do a cat 5. today's forecast, one of the coolest spots in the nation. as hot as it gets, if you're in seattle or the west coast, enyoi it, you're the only ones that have typical washington, you deserve after

uptick in violence from year ago. murders have rizen in st. louis by 60%, and in baltimore by 56%. on a happier note two fishermen in alabama made an unexpected catch. instead of fish, they've pulled two kittens out of the river. the two kittens have since been adopted. let's get down to business with cnbc's landon downey. >> the markets could open september well in the red after ending august with a thud. china leading the way lower today after reporting manufacturing activity fell at the fastest pace in three years last month. but dow finishing with the worst monthly loss since may of 2010. and september may not provide relief. it's historically the worst month of the year for stocks. automakers report auto sales. due to the calendar as labor day falls later this year. sales are expected to be strong, thanks to continued demand for suvs and pick-ups.
