we have just changed the pricing right there. we have a couple of folks on each cash lane and that will continue to build. breaking news now, a woman reportedly thrown in the trunk of a car and kidnapped. investigators in oakland trying to track down the suspect but they don't have much to go on. here is a witness reporting seeing it happen last night around 10:00 on sterling drive, that is just west of 580. >> "today in the bay" schuk coppola live in oakland. what are police saying this morning? >> reporter: precious little at this early hour. we can share with you some details. we should point out there is no police activity right now in the oakland hills, this part of it. behind me you see the 8100 block of sterling drive, that is where this kidnapping is reportedly -- reportedly to have happened just after 10:00 p.m. last night. a witness told police that a man grabbed a woman who was described only as wearing a halter top, put her in the trunk of a car and then took off. now, the car description is very
5:02 am
sketchy, it is a black car, possibly a year 2000 model. we don't know if it's a coupe or if it's a sedan. we don't know much about the woman other than what she was wearing. the suspect is a fairly sketchy description, here is what police have given us to go on, he is described as an african-american man in his mid 20s, 6 feet tall, weighing between 180 and 200 pounds wearing a red shirt and dark pants. now, admittedly all three of those, the car, victim and suspect very, very limited information at this hour. we hope to get more info later. we can also share with you about where we are in the oakland hills. we are sort of at the converged enls of crest, mccormick avenues and sterling drive. you can see behind me the lights of the oakland coliseum, those bright lights there, that should give you an idea of where we are. there's also an open space at the top of this hill, perhaps someone was out walking their

dog or out and about at that hour. if you did and you saw and heard something, oakland police would like you to call them. reporting live in the oakland hills, i'm chuck coppola, toibt. happening today, the pham live kate steinle will square off against san francisco sheriff and two federal agencies. >> bob redell joins us live in our san francisco newsroom. the family thinks these agencies failed to do their jobs leading to her death. >> reporter: the steinle family not only wants to hold francisco sanchez accountable, he is the man accused of killing their daughter kate, but also the government agencies who allowed sanchez an undocumented immigrant back out on the streets. later this morning at 11:00 a.m. kate steinle's parents and her brother will announce that they are filing a claim against the san francisco sheriff's office and i.c.e., that's immigration customs enforcement along with the bureau of land management since it was their agent's stolen gun used in steinle's murder. last july she was shot and killed as she walked with her

father down pier 14 in san francisco. the steinle family believes their daughter would still be alive if sanchez had not been released from county jail and instead turned over to authorities. >> it's not going to bring kate back regardless of what happens and we are going to continue to fight on for -- for kate and for the rest of people in this country so this doesn't happen to someone else. >> we are where we are because the system failed. humanity and right now us. >> even if the steinle family doesn't prevail in court, they will prevail in the court of public opinion, but i think at the end of the day it's going to be a difficult case for them to win. >> the sheriff's department and i.c.e. say that this morning we cannot comment on pending litigation. reporting live in the san francisco newsroom, bob redell, "today in the bay." also new this morning, police in san jose trying to get in touch with the family of a

man found stabbed to death overnight in san jose. >> the man was found about 10:00 last night near story and center roads, "today in the bay" kris sanchez live in san jose. kris, any word on the suspect? >> reporter: no word on a suspect yet, but we do know that when san jose police arrived on the scene it was just too late for that man who suffered at least one stab wound. the area where it happened near story and center roads is not far from the homeless encampment known as the jungle. it was cleared a few months back. we can't say it has anything to do with the homicide, but that is where we found the crime scene tape. someone called 911 last night to report seeing that man down on the ground about 10:00. that man was declared dead at the scene. his identity won't be released until a coroner can talk with his family. police have not made any arrests yet, but when they release a suspect description or a description of the suspects, we will bring that to you. this is the 22nd homicide in san jose this year.

happening today, president obama is going where no president has ever gone before, he is hiking into the alaskan wilderness to prove climate change is real. >> hopefully he brought his park can a. "today in the bay" tracie potts joins us live in washington with more on his three-day journey. >> reporter: good morning everyone. the president is trying to make the case about climate change, telling leaders there in alaska that it's like 75 huge glaciers, the length of the national mall behind me, four times as tall as the washington monument, all melting in a year.
5:13 am
now, president obama who spoke with that glacier conference is going to hike up to a glacier today and then he's taking boat tour of that entire area. the president said the issue here is that these glaciers are melting, they're raising sea levels, there's one island there that we saw that scientists say is going to be completely submerged in water in a decade. the president also emphasized that the u.s. has some responsibility to deal with this. now, obviously that's only one side of the story. here on capitol hill there are a lot of naysayers and skeptics about the science behind climate change, it's one of the reasons that some of his energy programs and some of his global warming programs have been held up here on capitol hill. so that's really just one side of the story, but while he is there in alaska for three days the president is going to try to push that. the challenge is the people in alaska and their economy is very
5:14 am
much focused on and dependent on oil and drilling which is not a really big part of the president's clean energy program. >> no it's not. interesting as well ahead of the presidential campaign here, too, how that plays out. the state department has just released another cache of hillary clinton's e-mails. >> there's something in there for everyone. >> if you'd like to be critical of the former secretary of state you can point out to a few hundred e-mails sent and received that were later classified or like "the new york times" you can look at the positive where clinton talks about how worried she is about the earthquake in haiti at the time. the bottom line, there are more than 4,000 e-mails to pour through and it's going to take some time. we have in the past been talk being how little clinton seemed to understand about her own technology. in a newly revealed e-mail discussing her home's internet connection clinton says i don't know if i have wifi. how do i find out?

5:17 am
out on the stage? people would have freaked out. >> one more thing. >> that would have been cool. >> top gear, i'm going to put it on my list, millionaire matchmaker still number one. >> really? >> that's like a confession. i should be embarrassed to say that. >> the most popular tv show in the world. #make sam watch top gear. >> what about me? nothing? all right. $50,000, that's how much pg&e must pay for failing to secure a substation in south san jose. a year ago burglars cut their way through that exterior fence you saw there at the metcalf substation and stole several thousand dollars in construction equipment. the brazen break in went undetected by what pg&e had called robust security for more than five hours n a statement the state's public utilities commission said its investigation found despite multiple alarms sounding during the break in, pg&e security walls unaware. this latest failure followed promises by the utility to

car, possibly year 2,000, not much more to go on than that, and the suspect is described in limited details as an african-american man in his mid 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds to 200 pounds. not sure on that. they do say that he was wearing a red shirt and dark pants, but admittedly that's not much to go on. so oakland police have not yet come forth with more information on this. we don't know if this was a domestic situation or something else. we are slightly to the west of interstate 580, i can hear the traffic just starting up this morning. we are in the oakland hills near an open space at the top of crest avenue and mccormick avenue, perhaps someone was out and heard or saw something, but that is the latest from here. a kidnapping happening late last night in the oakland hills a woman put into the trunk of a car and driven off. i'm chuck coppola, reporting live in the oakland hills, "today in the bay."
