newspaper weekend. take a look at how cool it is in the north bay, it is 47 degrees. it is 60 degrees in the east bay and san francisco 57 degrees. look for a high of 68 degrees in san francisco, 81 in the north bay and the south bay 79 degrees. so another nice one. is the commute starting out nice? >> it's starting out nice but that the not unusual. look at west 580 moving very smoothly. the overnight road crews heading eastbound getting out of the area have cleared. over here also westbound right around greenville the crew has cleared but they left over a little gravel and that happens from time to time overnight. a little clatter reported. no lanes blocked. upper east shore freeway a nice easy drive. back to you. three correctional deputies behind bars accused of a heinous crime, beating a mentally ill inmate to death. the question is is this a systemic problem? now fanl lease with loved one inside the main santa clara

county jail are key f demanding answers. >> reporter: this morning those three deputies will wake up behind bars, though not at the santa clara county jail where they worked and where they allegedly beat that i know mate to death. they have been transferred to another facility. sheriff laurie smith says the three deputies were the only ones who entered michael tyree's cell the night he died. we know that correctional deputies who work as jail guards are not peace officers and so they don't have the same level of training as a peace officer. sheriff smith would not elaborate about that training, instead me stuck to a script and teleprompter and offered condolences to the inmate's family. >> the disappointment and disgust that i feel is k. not be overstated. >> now, according to the coroner michael tyree died of blunt force at the hands of another

person, that is a beating so severe he essentially died of internal bleeding. he had already served a five-day sentence and was in the jail's protective care unit on the sixth floor because he was waiting for a bed in a mental health unit. a lawyer for the family says he was only there because it was supposed to be the safest place for him while waiting for that bed in that mental health unit. the three correctional deputies are now on unpaid leave, they have handed over their badges, lawyered up and refuse to go speak. the sheriff confirms that the fbi is also now investigating. >> we will watch that one unfold. you can watch the entire news conference with sheriff smith it's all on our website. that's at nbcbayarea.com. new this morning, a woman leads law enforcement on a high speed chase through the north bay. it started last night somewhere in santa rows sachlt we have not

been told what actually start that had chase. the witnesses say the driver was going 110 miles an hour at one point and clearly driving recklessly. chp officers eventually crashed into the center median on highway 101 near the marin sonoma county line but the woman refused to get out. >> this is your last warning. >> officers fired nonlethal rounds into the car and the driver eventually got out and they were able to arrest her peacefully. 4:34. 19-year-old with autism is dead after drowning in lake toe mess co. police say around 7:00 last night they got to the lake and found the young man under water. they pulled him out and tried to perform cpr but at the layered died at the hospital. we do know he is from concord. an investigation is underway. now to a developing story. police officers will be standing guard at sacramento city sledge clej this morning, this after a campus shooting killed one

student and hurt two others. last night dozens of people held a candlelight vigil for the victims, their identities have not been released. police say earlier in the afternoon a group of men got into a fight near the campus when one of them pulled out out a handgun and started firing. one victim was shot and killed, another victim in serious condition, a third grazed by a bullet. police say two of those students had just left an afternoon class. the campus was on lock down for three years while police were searching for that gunman who is still on the run. food a judge will likely decide if there is any evidence to hold juan francisco lopez-sanchez for trial on murder charges. he is the undocumented immigrant a kuszed of the july shooting of kate steinle on pier 14 as she walked with her father. her killing ignite add national debate over san francisco's status as a sank tear city. lopez-sanchez is a five time

deportee who kept returning to the u.s. right now we are seeing a trend continue to the end of the week, a little bit of cooling heading into the weekend. don't get too hopeful on that front. >> it was so nice yesterday, spectacular weather, and that stays with us at least through today. it is 55 degrees now in livermore, a cool start as you walk out the door, you need a jacket, you may run back in to say, it's kind of cool out here. the high today will be up to 78 degrees in san jose, redwood city 72 degrees, outer sunset 64 degrees, 81 napa, 72 oakland, pittsburg 80 degrees and san ramone reaching 74 degrees so we still have these widespread 70s and low 8 os and then it heats up this weekend. i will show you those numbers coming up. let's see how that commute is going. we are looking at the san mateo bridge, our live look, from time to time taking a nap as well, there we go, nice clear view. good flow of traffic right now. nothing unusual about 92 or 84,

"today in the bay's" chuck coppola live in san francisco with what to expect for riders and drivers alike. good morning, chuck. >> reporter: good morning there, sam and lawyer rachlt the transbay tube, you are absolutely right, will be closed and the closure begins at midnight friday and extends until 4:00 a.m. tuesday morning. if you are coming up the peninsula and you are getting off at embarcadero station, that will be your last stop before going across the bay bridge. you have to get off, walk two blocks to the trans bay terminal and then take a bus across the

bay bridge to the 19th street station in oakland. if you are on the east side of the bay, 19th street is your last stop to get off, catch the bus across the bridge. there will be shuttles from 19th street to take you to 12th street or west oakland if you happen to live or work closer to those. all of this is to repair tracks between west oakland and the embarcadero station that serves the city's financial district. >> we are offering buses, we have 77 buses ready to go, ready to take you from 19th street to the temporary trans bay terminal in san francisco. from there you can walk to embarcadero station or hop on a muni bus or walk wherever you want to go. >> reporter: during the last shutdown for repairs bart says bay bridge traffic increased 12% and there was noticeable increase on the san mateo, dumbarton and richmond san rafael bridges. there will be additional services between alameda as well

>> weather and traffic. >> we are. >> the floor is yours, madam. >> it is going to be great today. we're excited about it being friday, it's payday and the weather is going to be great, but this weekend -- >> we get paid? >> everybody gets paid. all right. as we take a live look outside the bay bridge it is nice and clear and it is cool this morning. this is one of the coolest mornings we've had in quite a while. 47 degrees now in the north bay, san francisco 57 degrees and 60 degrees in the east bay. look for highs in the 70s all throughout the bay area and the north bay up to 81 degrees, tri-valley also warming up into the lower 80s, but not by much. our temperatures much cooler than average. check out what happens as we go through the day. we have a northwesterly wind that comes on shore. look at how windy it will be later on this afternoon. palo alto wind speeds up to 27 miles an hour and along the

coast even stronger, 34 mile per hour sustained winds. we do have even higher gusts throughout the day so it will be windy, sunny but also cool and then things heat up as we go into the weekend. the winds shift directions, cuts back that on-shore flow and as the air sirngs it will be warming up. but place you may be able to go to find mild temperatures the sal's lead dough arts festival. a look at all the microclimates it is going to be getting hot. temperatures jumping up several degrees each day. we will be in the 90s for some areas, the inland areas on labor day. i'm checking, you're right, did i get paid. awesome. we're looking over toward the dublin interchange. westbound 580 really just jams at hop yard just past the auto mall. that's where things slow down. it should be clear by 5:00. look at your map that's the only section with congestion no major

record setting penalties from the san bruno blast. pg&e pace $1.6 million in fines butt utility says it's entitled to a hefty tax write off as in $115 million. peninsula state senator jerry hill authored a bill to prevent pg&e from claiming that money, but the effort came up short in the state senate yesterday by just two votes. now to an investigative unit exclusive. one of the bay area's biggest tech staffing firms facing criticism. beta soft advertises that it's placed tech workers. >> vicki nguyen has been digging into complaints about their business practices. >> reporter: good morning. beta soft is a $20 million tech staffing firm based in fremont. two people spoke with us concerned about how the company trains and markets its job weekers. they say they paid 500 to $1,000 for training, but near the end of a six-week course beta soft

foothill road and all those crews clearing caused quite a backup. red to orange, speeds are improving. as we look at the live look at the dublin interchange approach at tassajara a little slow over to 680. practice is over, now the 49ers and levi stadium have ten days to gear up for the real thing. on september 14th the 9ers will host the minnesota vikings on monday night football. last night was a dress rehearsals of sorts as the 49ers beat the chargers 49-12. this was the end of the pre-season. perhaps the biggest test not actually on the field but around the stadium. it was the last schans for local law enforcement and transportation agencies to smooth out any traffic concerns they might have before that monday night game. >> we have our operations plan down and know what to expect with a full season already under our belts. so we are ready for the 2015 season. >> some say they noticed the

backup was a little worse than normal on highway 101 through santa clara, but for the most part things went pretty smooth limit keep in mind this game was not a sell out, about 45,000 fans attended, close to 70,000 will be at the season opener. it's a chicken fight no one saw coming, a battle brewing over a celebrity. you may have seen the majts, the chicken now named chip that stopped traffic wednesday morning at the bay bridge toll plaza. mike told us about it. but it was all stopped until chp officers stepped n the story went viral. not bird flu viral but you get the idea. the mercury news reports at least three people have contacted the shelter where chip is in limbo claiming that's their bird. the shelt sr telling any self--proclaimed own for show proof of ownership, maybe a photo with yourself and chip. we can all assume chip will be able to fly the coop and if not rescue groups say they are ready to chip in themselves.

>> did the chp name this chicken? >> i don't know, i guess it just seems viral. >> chp, chip. how did a three month old siberian tiger end up living on the streets of southern california? >> investigators are really trying to figure that out after animal control officers caught the big cat this week. animal control officers brought the tying for sanctuary licensed to handle and treat exotic animals. they say the 25 pound cub will need surgery for a stomach problem. folks at the sanctuary tried feeding it with a botdel. the sanctuary houses eight adult tigers but this is their first cub. >> i have never seen a cub come through our doors anyway in 20 years. >> it's against the law for anyone to keep a tiger as a pet. the california department of fish and wildlife will determine where the cub ultimately ends

"today in the bay" starts right now. a good friday morning. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's get a look at that holiday weekend forecast. i guess friday, too, it's our last workday. >> and it will be great today. then starting to heat up as we head deeper into the holiday weekend. now it is 47 degrees in the north bay while san francisco is at 57 degrees and 59 degrees in the east bay. highs will generally be in the 70s, a few 80s, low 80s, here and there, but much cooler than where we should be for the beginning of september and then it starts to go back to summer, the feel of the air. i will talk more about that coming up in just a few minutes. let's see how the morning commute is moving. we're looking toward the bay bridge where things are moving well, the picture a little stutter, but you can see the space in the lanes. we will talk about on the span itself i just got reports of a disabled vehicle slowly making its way
