if you can put the campaign season in that school mind set, give us the report card, the summer report card for the democrats. hillary clinton trying to overcome the e-mail stumbles and bernie sanders. how do you grade how they've gotten to this place as americans really begin tuning in in earnest. >> let's look at both parties. it's basically establishment has had a horrible summer. outsiders have had a great summer, and it's working this way in both parties. bernie sanders surging. we're going to have two new polls coming out of vermont and new hampshire. and not to give away the story here, but the song remains the same. bernie sanders is surging, hillary clinton is struggling, and there's a new wrinkle. we now have joe biden viewed as the more electable candidate than hillary clinton. labor day, the traditional start, we always say, of the campaign season, at the starting line right now, hillary

clinton's in some trouble. >> that's going to add to the conversations in wilmington, you can believe that as we head into the fall. i want to talk about congress. they're wrapping up their five-week summer recess, must be nice. and the iran deal is on the horizon for them. the president has secure add veto-proof iran deal. that means that this thing is going to go through. is this a victory or is that he's avoiding defeat here? >> it's surviving. in our polarized climate everything is done through a red/blue prism. i think foreign policy being viewed that way now as well. we're seeing this iran deal, republicans essentially uniformly against it. democrats, some splintering, but mostly for it. at least as far as elected democrats are concerned. and it makes conducting foreign policy more difficult today than ever before. and it's, in fact, going to be one of the pieces of the conversation i'm going to have

gliniewicz. >> they took off toward the swamp. >> do you need a second unit? >> reporter: 17 minutes later, officers found gliniewicz shot to death. officials won't say what their newest evidence is, assignide f calling it, quote, significant. they say the officer's gun was recovered at the scene. >> it was found near the lieutenant's remains. i can't reveal how many times if was fired. >> reporter: fbi technicians are also piecing together several videos from intersections and area homes. they say the images they are seeing match up with the description offered by gliniewicz, two white men and one black. >> i believe that the subjects are dangerous, and i reiterate this. they murdered a police officer, so they're capable of doing anything. >> reporter: the sheriff's office said saturday they believe they're getting closer to identifying someone. >> historically what we've found

is they still localize, that's what we're hoping for, that they're still in the area, within our reach. >> they would only say that the new evidence was found by officers using machetes and weed whackers to clear that brush. trooper gliniewicz will be laid to rest with full honors. there is some good news about another story we've covered. this is uplifting on a sunday morning as we're getting the first look now of the only survivor of that deadly shooting in virginia. it's the smiling vickie gardner, there she is in her hospital bed. just weeks after she was shot during that live television broadcast near roanoke. >> she does continue to heal. and doctors say she may be able to leave the hospital soon. she's only survivor after a

gunman opened fire while she was being interviewed live on the air. there's another headline today. a deadly road rally crash is under investigation. shanel's been following that. >> there's a state of warning across spain after a crash that killed at least six people and injured at least 16 more. the horrific moment of the crash was recorded and posted to youtube. in the saturday evening dusk, they lost control and launched into the pack crowd lined up to watch the high speed race in northern spain. witnesses describe a horror scene of dead and injured. including a pregnant woman and one child. several children were taken to the hospital. the two-person team is not injured but said to be getting psychological scarcare. race organizers posted a black ribbon to facebook.

if you have to be outside, take it easy, find a cool place. >> be friendly to neighbors who have pools. >> that's right. now to a developing story in morgan hill, evacuations are still in effect because of a standoff at an apartment complex. this is on berry court and crest avenue. authorities say a robbery suspect may be hunkered down. they chased him and saw him run inside, the suspect believed to be one of two men connected to an armed robbery at a game stop store yesterday. the other suspect is still at large. and chp calls this year one of the deadliest years on bay area roadways. that's why officers are increasing efforts to catch drunk drivers and prevent serious accidents this busy holiday weekend. more deputies are on patrol, they set up check points around the bay area. they say highway 85 in saratoga is one of the spots a high number of dui and accidents happened. deputies are asking them to show

licenses, prove they're capable of being behind the wheel. >> if they had something to drink, we pull them out of the vehicle, run them through a bunch of sobriety tests. >> they say already 120 people died because of crashes on california highways this year, 20% more than last year. last labor day weekend, nearly 30 people throughout the state were killed in car crashes. three of them died here in the bay area. changes at whole foods after a security guard allegedly beat a shopper unconscious in oakland thursday. that security guard and security company are now permanently off the job. an eyewitness post td pictures on twitter after the incident. the spokeswoman for the grocery chain says the customer made physical contact with an employee before that guard intervened. the customer is hospitalized in stable condition and oakland police and whole foods are also investigating. a company representative issued a statement saying, quote, we do have a zero tolerance policy for

when he was bitten. he's in stable condition in the hospital. let's send it outside to dylan. >> a final check of the weather. >> hey, it's gorgeous out here now. we are loving the labor day weekend here in new york city. we have temperatures in the 80s and back into the 90s by the ti we get to monday and tuesday. we want to take a look at the tropics. we have another storm system that developed off the coast of africa. fred to the northwest there is fizzling out, but this is grace. this is just a tropical storm right now, but it is going to continue on the west ward trek at about 13 miles per hour. it doesn't strengthen that much. it's going to stay as a tropical storm for awhile and eventually upgrade, possibly to just a tropical storm at 45 miles per hour winds. so the strongest it ever gets will be about 65 miles per hour. not really going to be a threat but want to show you it's out there. a stronger storm today through minneapolis especially this afternoon and evening. keep in mind with the cold front. we could see damaging winds and also some large hail. also, chance of scattered

this morning on sundays with harry. we're taking you to new york central park. a group of racing enthusiasts come together for a tradition that is nearly a hundred years old. harry smith has more. ♪ >> reporter: if you're going to do this, it takes concentration. total commitment as they say, you got want it. >> three, two, one! >> reporter: it is racing model sailboats in industrial pacentr. a sport that has been around for more than a hundred years. what are you doing saturday and you say? >> going to central park to sail my boat.

>> how big is your boat? >> 1 meter and 40 inches. [ laughter ] you know, out to long island or up to connecticut to their yacht clubs. i've got my yacht club. >> reporter: bruce richter is the vice commodore of the central park model yacht club. >> you pause and look at the place. i'm so plinrivileged to be able sail here. it's a beautiful spot. >> reporter: the boats are beautiful and the park is without pier, but racing is intense. the sail and the rudder are operated by remote control. marco has been sailing here since she was a kid. >> i would say tricky more than hard. controlling the boat is easy. it responds really quickly. the hardest part is understanding where the breeze is coming from. >> reporter: right. >> it takes patience but not hard. once you get it it's fun.

>> reporter: sailing in central park began in the 1800s. the park was new. people flock to the pond to see the model yachts. back then the boats were guided by sticks and so it continued for years. john tucker is commodore of the club. >> yeah, i'm one of the six guys. it was the way of directing the boat. it took two days to sail in those days. a skipper one side and the mate on the other. between the two of you, you keep the boat in a straight line. >> reporter: the remote makes it a true test of seamanship. sometimes the wind is almost imperceptible. as the song says, if you can sail it here, you can sail it anywhere. >> on certain days i can stand outside like this and some skipper will couple and show up and he'll say i'm from germany or i'm from sweden but they have
