start, especially in the north bay, it's 52 degrees, 65 degrees now in san francisco as we head into the afternoon. expect highs to top out in the 90s and in the triple digits in the south bay, 101, east bay 96 degrees, tri-valley today 103. i will talk more about the microclimates but right now mike is tracking an early crash dmt south bay. we are going to look at this video from a just a few minutes ago. a number of vehicles, three had to be taken away on a tow truck. there's one of them there. all lanes have just cleared. this is northbound 680 at capital avenue. let's get you located on the map now that you have seen some of the damage that they had to clear up. all the rest of the south bay very light flow of traffic. north 680 at capital avenue lanes just reopened again. no problems for the rest of the bay and the transbay tube open for service for bart. back to you. breaking news now, san francisco police racing between

different shooting scenes overnight, now three people are in the hospital from two different shootings. the first happened near the corner of fulsome and sesar chavez, then hours later only a few blocks ago. stephanie chuang joining us in our san francisco newsroom. are there any indications that the shootings could be connected? >> it's a bit early to sell, but investigators looking at that. these shootings happened close in both place and time. the first one you showed on the map happened before 9:00 last night, the victim taken to san francisco hospital. that gunman got away. three hours later at 24th and mission streets there was a double shooting. police say two men, one in his 20s and the other in his 50s were both shot at because stop on the corner there. investigators believe the younger victim shot in the groin area may have been the intended target while the older man shot in the chest was likely in the wrong place at the wrong time. two cars in the area were also

struck by bullets. police say they are looking for two people connected to that shooting. there are at least three cameras in that area that belong to bart, muni and the city, so investigators are grabbing footage from those cameras to try to piece everything together and see what they might be able to find. otherwise, again, all the suspects still on the run from both of those shootings. the good news is all three victims are expected to survive. live in our san francisco newsroom, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." in the meantime, a shooter is on the run in cupertino this morning. police say a man was shot in the leg about 9:30 last night. he is expected to survive. it hand in the area of wonder licks drive and tuggel avenue not far from the high school. police searched the high school last night but never found the gunman. the search is going to resume this morning for a man who disappeared near angel island. wouter van lier has not been seen for more than 24 hours.

investigators say that he was camping with his wife when he vanished. his boat still died to the dock, but he is nowhere to be found, boats, jet skis, helicopters all involved in the search. they will be back in the water and air later this morning. van lier 42 years old, was last seen wearing just boxers and a shirt. it will likely be a rough start to the school year for students at a peninsula school, their counsellor was killed in a weekend boating accident. michael harris just started a new job at menlo school is this year as a counselor. the 26-year-old was with his girlfriend and three other people when their small boat was hit by another boat on the water near catalina island sunday, their father, peter hash ris is well known, he is a former 49ers ceo. michael harris' brother david said michael wanted to give back to the community. >> i think he understood that his calling was in helping people who he could identify with growing into stronger leaders and stronger people. >> michael and both of his

brothers attended menlo school. new details now on an overnight brush fire that made it much harder for people to get back to the bay area from santa cruz. this fire starting just after 10:00 last night off highway 17 right near summit road. the northbound lanes were temporarily shut down so fire trucks to get to all of those flames. after an hour crews managed to put the fire out. it burned about half an acre. traffic is flowing smoothly once again. i think we are in for a warm week. summer is hanging on out there, kari. >> it is going to be sizzling across td bay. we're starting out now at 66 degrees in concord, napa 52 degrees and sunnyvale 61 degrees. cool start, but it will be warming up quickly with a lot of sunshine all across the bay area. we are talking about highs that will be topping out at 98 degrees in san jose, los gatos at 100 degrees, even in san francisco we could be in the mid 90s, south of market 96 degrees,

burlingame 97 degrees and gilroy today 104. i will show you the rest of the microclimates and i will let you know when this heat breaks coming up in just a few minutes. let's see how the roads are moving with mike. moving very well. here at the bay bridge toll plaza we have a uple of cars approach, that's the only issue crossing the bay, over the bay and under the bay. bart system back on service for the transbay tube between oakland and san francisco right on schedule there. a smoother drive after the crash cleared over on the san francisco side of the bay bridge, no problems, a little activity on the shoulder by fremont. the rest of your bay moves smoothly and for 580 coming out of the altamonte. the crash in san jose has cleared and so has the slowing north 680 right by capital avenue. happening today, changes coming to the evening commute on the golden gate bridge. live pictures of the beautiful bridge right now, you can almost count the cars out there, everything normal obviously now and it will stay that way through the morning commute. come this afternoon drivers

4:39. happening today, three south bay correctional deputies will face a judge for the first time since being accused of beating a mentally ill inmate to death. >> kris sanchez joining news studio on what could be revealed in court later today. >> reporter: today is the first time those three correctional deputies will have to say how they plead to the charges of murder, assault and conspiracy. at the arraignment we also generally get our first look at the charging documents which often include some of the details of the alleged crime. the three correctional deputies, matthew farris, jereh lubrin and rafael rodriguez have been find bars since their arrest on thursday. they are accused of beating a 31-year-old inmate to death in his cell on the sixth floor of the main santa clara county jail. michael tyree had served his sentence, but was still in protective custody awaiting a spot to open in a mental health facility. while sheriff laurie smith professed sorrow, disappointment and disgust, one of the

correctional deputies, rafael rodriguez, there all the way on the right-hand side of your screen, professed his innocence, speaking from behind bars at the santa rita jail in dublin. he spoke to the mercury news saying he never touched michael tyree and that he was only in tyree's cell to do a search. a day after the arrest people rallied outside the jail where tyree died and where the three deputies were working to demand that the district attorney prosecute the trio to the fullest extent of the law. today we could also hear the judge -- rather the attorneys for the three men try to set up terms for their release, up to now they have been behind bars not in the santa clara county jail, but outside at the dublin -- the santa rita jail in dublin for their own protection. laura. today the santa clara county board of supervisors will hold a special meeting to discuss the legal ramifications of michael tyree's death. that meeting will take place behind closed doors. it's likely the county will face

>> it is definitely still on. especially when you take a look at this forecast. you will be like it is not going anywhere anytime soon. as we take a live look outside right now in san jose a nice cool to the start, we do have mostly clear skies but come check out this seven-day forecast at the bought to. screen, it is not looking good out there, especially if you like the cooler weather. 65 degrees now in hayward and in san jose it is 60 degrees, napa starts out a nice cool 52 degrees, but with all of the heat expected today it will be a day to bike or commute or carpool, rather, and also try to spare the air. if you have asthma or breathing problems you want to limit your time outside, especially in the east bay and south bay where the air quality is approaching those unhealthy levels. here is a look at those highs today, gilroy 104, burlingame 97, soma 96, ukiah 104 and livermore 103 degrees today.

this hot weather, though, may be coming to an end as we head into the weekend. in the form of more clouds. the clouds will be increasing and maybe a chance of an isolated shower or two by the end of the weekend. in the meantime we have to deal with these highs over 100 degrees for the next several days and even this weekend it will be hot. a look at all the microclimates. we're talking 80s and 90s all across the bay, san francisco coming back down into the mid 70s and 96 degrees on saturday in the south bay. let's see how the commute is moving with mike. things are moving very well right now. as you see mostly green all over the bay, a little yellow that we see just down to 60 miles per hour. let's look at the bay bridge toll plaza because we did have a little bit of a backup up there. we don't have any major problem on the left approach, the right is showing a little slow down. we have shift changes happening here. now, we are looking over towards san jose as well with our

they say it has a 6 inch screen. it is one of the cheapest current tap let's, the fire sells for $99. the company is struggling to gain ground against apple and samsung which have a 42% of the market and amazon has less than 1% of the market. verizon will reportedly announce a free app streaming service called go 90, that's a reference to how you rotate your phone when you're watching video and landscape mode. they say it's aimed at millennials and is available to everyone even if you are not a verizon customer. it will include a mix of live shows as well as tv shows and original web series. >> sounds colorful. thank you. san francisco city leaders are taking step to ease the housing crisis there. mayor ed lee is going to announce an affordable housing initiative this morning. housing advocates have made many

calls for the city to increase the amount of affordable housing options for low and middle income families. san francisco's supervisor says transportation in the city is good but he has a plan to make it better. supervisor scott wiener wants to increase subway infrastructure city wide. he plans to talk to the board of supervisors about that plan today. it would require the city to come up with a quote master plan for increasing subway infrastructure within a year. wiener says a better subway system will help the city deal with what he calls unprecedented growth. over in the bay area we are going to get a better idea if san francisco streets are becoming safer for cyclists and pedestrians. a little more than a year ago police and mta launched a safe street pilot program, it was part of the plan to end all deadly traffic accidents. safe streets is trying to improve public safety mainly through education and today program leaders are going to update the chamber of commerce on hout progress is coming

along. decision 2016 comes to service today. republican presidential candidate ben carson will speak at the commonwealth club. carson is a retired neurosurgeon who spends his career at johns hopkins hospital. he gained notoriety in 1987 for successfully separating conjoined twins joined at the head. cars season currently second in the republican party polls though he trails donald trump by double digits. he will speak at the mark hopkins hotel at noon. lawmakers returning to capitol hill after their month long summer recess and critical issues are going to be up for debate like keeping the government running. the government runs out of money on september 30th. also needing to be resolved, a half billion dollars going to planned patient hood. the congress must also vote on the iran nuclear agreement. all signs point to approval. the republican controlled congress is likely to pass motions disapproving the deal

i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm sam brock. we start with a look at your weather and we thought the dog days of summer were over, kari, but definitely not right now. >> no it's going to be hot for the next few days and temperatures continue to ramp up today. it is now 57 degrees in the north bay and the peninsula is at 60 degrees. after a cool start this is where we're headed today. 101 south bay, east bay 96, peninsula 94, 103 tri-valley, san francisco 96 and the north bay 98 degrees. mike is track ago bart problem right now. that's right. we thought we had everything run nothing service as the transbay tube opened this morning. now bart just givesorelays system wide, that's all they say, we're getting more details from them but there may be an issue with the transbay tube, stick with us and college that bart schedule because things are changing second by second. if you are choose to go drive we're looking at a backup over on the right for those cash lanes over at the bay bridge. no
